Is it safe to assume that Garrus, Tali, Miranda and Jacob will be recruitable in Mass Effect 3?

Why would Tali and Garrus abandon Shepard in ME3?

The same reason Liara abandons you in ME2. IE: meaningless plot device.

Oh, yeah, and they're both dead in my renegade playthrough, so it will be hard to recruit them.

So, no, it is not safe to assume they'll return.

Perhaps the flip side is that any characters that survive should have a reasonable expectation that they will be available in some caoacity and possibly as squadmates.

The excuses for the ME1 LIs ensures they will be involved in the finale, however flimsy it may have been you can't do the same for the ME2 romances since there is nothing to save them for.  So if they survive the events of ME2 it is a reasonable assumption they will probably still be there in ME3.

If they don't survive based on your playthru or what the assumptions are for a fresh ME3 Shepard they will not be available.

Of course they could just do a whole new squad in ME3 plus the ME1 cast, viable if shallow solution.

They mentioned the LIs playing a big part in the third game. Of course, I believe it was in reference to ME1 characters. If its in regards to both games then it might be safe to say they'll be in the third game if they survive.

Obviously they mentioned that cheating on the original LIs will be mentioned in the third game I'm hoping for a "It's me or them." choose option/dialogue.

I'm not expecting them to be recruitable. Hell, I wasn't expecting Tali and Garrus to be recruitable in this game. Some interaction would be nice though If they survived in the second game and were LIs then have a "date night" if you run into them or asmall story about whether or not they are still with you, but doing their own thing. I'm not picky. Although I really want to see Wrex in the third game as well. I love my Krogan teddy bear.

That can't be true. I didn't romance any character in ME1 and it's clear there isn't even a friendly relationship with any of them in ME2. They'll really have to be shoe-horned into my game to make them have some huge important role, especially as a crew member.

This depends on a lot of things. Ideally, every squadmate ever would be recruitable. Mass3 is the "Final Act" and I think it was even said by Bioware devs, that that allows them to really have some of the situations spiral out to really different situations, where the Middle act, had to be kind of "Tubed" up to make sure the third game can start in a wide, but acceptable range of where it needed to start. Depending on the fiscal success of Mass2 (From what I hear, that shouldn't be an issue, lol) Mass Effect 3 may be able to have some fifteen plus fully developed personalities aboard your pressure-sealed loveboat. From the VERY end of the game, my thoughts are you'll need every one, and then some (I'm guessing alliances forged throughout the trilogy is going to play a huge role in the coming war, Council relations, Rachni situation, Flotilla integrity, Geth insurgency, Krogan stability). All those situations are really building themselves up for a sort of "Dragon Age" Gather an army situation. With one huge difference; it spans through three entire games.

My condolences to someone who Killed the Rachni, the council and Wrex in the first game. And to those who sold the Geth's relations platform "Legion" and/or intigated an unescessary war between the Geth and the Quarians. Humanity will have to stand alone against every galactic power before them, simultaneously.

I think the difference from ME1 -> ME2 to ME2 -> ME3 is that fans are now aware that it is very possible that BioWare may take the "easy way" out and not include the Tali and Garrus. I think there will be a very strong movement by fans to have them included.

Looking at it from a story standpoint. (assuming they survive) Tali doesn't seem to have a lot of options. Sure, She was nominated to be an admiral. But She doesn't seem to like politics too much. And She doesn't seem to have the experience yet to be an admiral. And Garrus, not a whole lot of options either. I doubt He'll go back to C-Sec. So He's just kind of stuck with Shepard.

In short, they'll most likely stick with Shepard a bit.

Tali and Garrus, perhaps Miranda but Jacob? Pfff he is a simple merc. I have no ideawhy I had to listen to him comment after I got a new squad mate, like I cared aboub his opinion.... Seriously I found him annoying.

Tali, Garrus and Liara are a must. Dam I would love to see everyone come back. Not like they gonna say they have better things to do when the galaxy is about to be farmed by reapers. Or killing them behind the scenes would be even worse, heck even coming to recruit them and see them killed would suck - got frozen during Archangel recruitment, cause I thought Garrus was going to die in front of me.

But on topic - Garrus and Tali must come back (and Liara). Not like they did with Dragon Age - Oghren??Really!??! It would be like bringing only Zaed into ME3.

According to me, the only recruitables in ME 3 will be the squadmates you had in ME1 but not a single one of ME2.

It's actually the only possible way... Bioware won't simply be able to keep any of the characters in ME2 as they can all die and they should recreate a specific scenario for each of them. Jack alive? Keep jack (create all database for Jack); Jack dead? Replace by someone else (create all database for replacement) That would make Bioware create 2 Mass Effect scenarios for 1 game...

They will probably all die, including Tali and Garrus. Or they will create again a new team, or even simplier, they will take back the people from ME1, which is reasy and can be created with a simple scenario --> "the universe is at his doom, General Ashley follow me; Warlord Wrex, follow me etc etc" - "ok we're coming". And that's it. Simple and straight, with a correct scenario.

Keeping ME2 recruitables will just be impossible. The transition with ME1 was actually easy, Ashley and Kaidan was a simple death; replace the one by another; both are soldiers for the Alliance, promote them, make the small scenario on Freedom's Progress, over. For ME2 recruitables it will be much harder, even impossible.

So there will actually be a riot!

I expect Jacob, Tali and Garrus to be in your crew in 3rd, the rest is a maybee. As the old ones I think Liara and Ashley/Kaidan are as likely as Jacob, Tali and Garrus to return. This wuld be the paragon way.

Canon choices tend to be quite bleak/renegade, so it's safe to assume that in a "fresh" ME3 game, some will not have survived the suicide mission, and will only return as wrex-style interchangeable cameos in imports where they lived.

The really interesting question is; how will they deal with canon survivors who died in your import?

As safe as it can be safe to assume anything :P

Would love to see them back, though. Plus Legion, Ashley/Kaidan and Liara.

No. Bioware is a smart enough business to know that punishing its players is a terrible marketing choice. People who lost their saves are already complaining of 'punishment' because they couldn't choose to continue the same path -- they were restricted to the default Shep and couldn't change any of the default choices

Now imagine if players lost a huge amount of content in-game because a few characters accidently died. There would be f*cking riots.

Games should never, ever punish their players, even if the players make terrible choices.

EDIT: This is why I kind of wonder how ME3 is going to be achieved. It seems like there are just too many variables, too many people that could have died, to bring any characters from ME2 into ME3. And I really do fear that, because some of those characters were golden.

I have faith in the masters, though. For now.

Ok... what happens if you lose everyone at the end of Mass Effect 2?

I think in Mass Effect 3 you are going to form bonds; alliances with all the different species in order to defeat the reapers. Kind of as in Dragon Age. Rachni, Quarians ect...

So if you kill everyone you still got Liara and Ashley/Kaidan for sure.

But you are going to have a hard time convincing all the species to help you.

The more squad members survive the easier its going to be...

If you lose everyone at the end of ME2 then I think you end up dying too.  Not lost everyone myself, but that's what I'm hearing from people.

I think everyone will be back one way or another. Assuming you saved everyone on the Collector's Base. Just think about why Shepard's crew left the first place? Because he died and was gone for 2 years. They moved on with their lives and some of them now just have other responsibilities (Wrex, Liara) or just distrust Cerberus (Ash, Kaidan?). I don't think BW is going to let Shepard die a second time or at least I hope they won't.

Furthermore, like it has already been said, if some special crew members won't make an appearance in ME3 (like Tali and Garrus) fans will start a riot and I don't think BW wants that lol

I think Tali will definately be in ME3 because Bioware already designed what she looks like under the mask. They're probably just waiting for a big reveal at the end!

Well if that's true they are also able to make her die at the very beggining! Or make her NPC.

I don't know in the English version of the game (got the French one; and when I said what I am going to say I was attacked as being a troll, I don't even know why...), but in the French version, if you get a romance with her she get heavily sick (she got a Krogan Fever, this is litterally what is written), so she can die pretty quickly also.

Making her a face doesn't necessarily means she is going to be kept all along.

they would not introduce all these new characters just to be in 1 game, if you people honestly think that bioware is not going to find a way to have all your surviving squadmates from ME2 be there in ME3 then you an idiot

i even read an interview where casey hudson said its going to be easier to make ME3 because we are using the same graphics, and going to have the same planets and CHARACTERS playable

We can say with 100% certainty that Bioware isn't going to take a canon storyline and forcibly override the choices you made in ME2. Anyone who died in an imported ME1 or ME2 playthrough will not be in ME3. Period.

The question at hand is in what capacity the survivors of ME1 and ME2 will interract with Shepard.

As I've already said, I expect the survivors of the ME2 suicide mission will return either as optionally recruited party members or as story cameos like Wrex was in ME2. Again, I'm nearly 100% certain of this because Bioware isn't going to interchange the optional and the mandatory. For me, the only real question concerns the "forced survivors" of ME1. Ashley/Kaiden, Liara, etc.
