MASS EFFECT 2

- On a scoreboard of 1 to 10 I give you 5....
- Mass Effect 1 was better than 2
- The storyline was too predictable
- The lack of customization for your characters is lame, need more for character creation.
-
I don't like the generalization of weapons - it felt more like upgrades
when you picked up or shopped for new types of weapons vs just
researching it.
- Mining is tedious as hell... it's like you wanted
to slow us down from beating the game by making us go out to random
planets in order to get better gear.
- Picking up upgrades off the
ground, I think you should get better gear by completing key missions
or earning money and buying it off store vendors.

It seems more like all of your money was tied up into Dragon Age and so the sequels were just expected to make money because everyone liked the first 1. I promise  I'll rent the 3rd and 2nd's of anything you put out before I buy them next time... and I'll probably encourage my friends to do the same thing. :crying:

I'm 28 years
old married w/ 1 child (marketing demographics) I spend money on games
I consider to be good... if there's 5 good games in a month I usually
buy them if nothing comes out for 6 months then I don't.

Mass
Effect 1 was great.. the story was progressive and involving. It is
honestly the best game I've played, sadly including Mass Effect 2.
Whoever was in charge of the storyline dropped the ball this time.
There was nothing to keep you involved with your characters. The game
is ok  don't get me wrong, but I'm disappointed with the way it
played out.

Start game - see intro do tutorial stuff - find out about elusive man

Middle game - recruit party members do their loyalty missions

End game - go through the Omega 4 Relay and survive...

Really
a rotten story all around. I would say that within the first hour of
playing I already knew how the game was going to end.... that's pretty
lame (no disrespect intended to your storyboard guys, I'm sure they put
a lot of work into this). I hope you guys take this to heart and make a
better story play for the 3rd release.

Best Regards

Jason

I disagree I replayed 1 and went back to 2 and I love 2 way more the characters were way more easier to like (looking at you Ash and Kaiden) the limited ammo was why more fun, I like the classes better, NO MORE BEING A TANK, I'll amit I miss mako but I prefre mining in 2 then 1, The enemys are smarter, You can make your own looking armor set, And the weapons and armors don't look the same (My little pet pev I had in the first)

But I do really miss Saren but hey I killed him!

All in all I must disagree

Maybe my problem was playing Dragon Age first and expecting ME2 to come close to it..

Perhaps this is a little picky, but what makes this a technical support issue?

I found the stories of both games to be very engaging and thrilling.

However, Mass Effect 2's story seemed more personal to me and for that I prefer Mass Effect 2's story to Mass Effect 1's.

I also enjoyed the combat of Mass Effect 2 more than the first. Thermal clips allow me to fire my gun without having to wait for an annoying cool-down period. This is a better system.

I quite enjoyed upgrading my weapons via the tech lab instead of scurrying off to planets just to go weapon shopping.

I can understand the frustrations around the new planet scanning but for some reason I just don't mind it at all. If you know what you are doing, you can complete an entire system of planets in 10 minutes or less (including buying more probes). I can confirm that the planet scanning system is far superior to the wasteland exploration from Mass Effect 1. That was no fun at all.

I'm 16 years old and I am a high school student. I buy games like Mass Effect 2 based on how much I enjoyed the predecessor. I enjoyed Mass Effect 1 a great deal but I prefer Mass Effect 2 in so many ways.

It is the best game I have ever played.

I agree with you in some regards. It felt like all the disc space was reservered for cinematics and that they didn't really have space / time to work up and keep you invovled with the story. Being a fan of Dragon Age I hope that they don't murder the sequel like they did yours.

I personly felt that Dragon Age was just something they put together to please the fans since it does not do anything new at all while Bioware usually shows progress and innovation in every new game.

Mass Effect 2 is definatly a great game, way better than Mass Effect 1.

Now the universe is far more fleshed out, it has become a world of its own instead of feeling like a generic Sci-Fi world.

Armor customization has improved greatly as well, this is far more realistic. However I would like to see team mates get the same amount of customization as Shepard. Buying parts and mixing and matching works great though, the options are simply a bit limited stilll. Light armor would be nice to have for example.

Personly I like the research, it makes more sense. I am all for realism, and too strong RPG elements can undermine realism.

The shootouts are a lot more fun now as well with the heat sinks, way smarter AI and new weaponry.

I am very happy that the Mako is gone, it was a hideous thing that seemed inappropriate for planet exploration, and it was hard to imagine fitting three people in there. There was not even an animation for getting in and out of it.

Of course Mass Effect 2 has downsides as well.

Scanning planets is not my idea of fun, It would have been better if you could scan far less planets but would find a lot more resources at once. Now it feels too much like work.

An additional scanner update could maybe help out, one that greatly increases the speed further, or something that does a full scan of the planet right away and lets you choose between the four resources available to mine, indicating the amount available for each of them.

I still feel very strongly that the storyline for ME2 was hosh poshed and not at all polished and shined as much as it should have been.

Everything you state as being good about the game, is just technology.... this far along I would expect any game I play to have smarter AI, better graphics, almost completely all voice overs vs reading everything. As far as armor customization goes I ended up using the dragon armor for almost the entire game, near the end of it I modified a set b4 I went through the omega 4 relay

It does look like its more about gathering the team than anything else, I havent finished the game yet though so no spoilers please.

And while Bioware's trademark plot twists seem to be missing (same goes for Mass Effect 1 in my opinion) I am very glad that Bioware's sense of humor has returned.

I really missed that in Mass Effect 1, the guys and girls at Bioware have a good sense of humor, the best part of it being that they can be funny without breaking the immersion of their own game, which is the case with most games that try to be funny.

The commercial about Hamlet featuring an all Elchor cast was great, as was the singing Salarian.

I think that maybe if they had maybe not made gathering the team so open? It might have been better.. maybe more like a running story as a whole where you add each character to your team? Not sure, it's hard to see how something is going to turn out till it's done though. Us as the consumers probably can gripe all we want but we really have no idea how much effort goes into making a game. We spend $50-$60 on something though we are allowed to have expectations.

I'd have preferred to have seen the AI for our team to be smarter than the computer AI. There were a few places where my guys were idiots and I was left fighting an army because they got themselves shot. Overall though they did do well. I found myself using barrier though all the time and just doing my best to hammer down as many guys as I could then take cover and plink off what was left.

Another thing that bugged me about the storyline was no clear way to make something happen. So like you're faced with all these ultimate options to say for example make a bird fly. You have all these dialogues as options but there's not a clear way or even puzzled way of making the bird in level 1 fly. You might say "I prefer to have egg's for breakfast.", and the bird will go attack something.. Just giving a random example so I don't give any spoilers to Inhuman =)~

Another thing that was pretty dumb but simple to fix is the first cut scene that is like 10 minute's long, you can't skip it. Makes it pretty annoying for either A playing with different classes or B just doing a 2nd play through. All of the cut scenes should be able to be skipped. After watching it once, it's cool and all, but I just want to remake my guy and do something different.... really takes the quickness out of being able to do that.

Well there are some missed points in the second one but it was same in ME1 and I don't think DA:O is good as ME series. I've got bored from that game after I first play. ME's universe is much better and everybody forgets that it's the middle of the story. It suppose to be like that. If you can't fit yourself into story. Maybe you don't like sci-fi so much. For example I've just figured I don't like fantasy games a lot for example I can't fit myself into DA story. In my opinion it doesn't have a great story like ME. I'm not saying it's a bad game. I just don't like it. I've always been excited when i saw how we died and how we are resurrected. When we've jumped to Omega4 Relay I was so excited. Recruiting Legion etc. It was all great. I don't agree with you. There are some missing points but hey it's just a game and there is nothing better to play than ME in the sector for me.

Hm, well I thought that ME2 (so far) has a way better story than ME1. Lets face it, they're both pretty formulaic; the ultimate good guy is unstoppable as he saves the galaxy nearly single-handedly. The power is definitely in choosing how he does that, rather than what he does ultimately. I think it's hard to judge the game as a whole on a general overview of the main plot. I play this game for the details, and the subtle and not so subtle side missions. The loyalty quests are amazing, and they deal with things like culture and ethics while giving you enough room to cater to your own beliefs and personality. I think Bioware's writers have locked it down pretty well in 2, as opposed to 1 when it was a newer thing. Instead of just being about right and wrong, it's about perception and belief which are things that aren't so black and white.

ME1 suffered from a lot of minor technical problems that added up, like picking up practically everything and having to sift through multiples of stuff, the mako *shudder*, and totally generic worlds. I honestly feel like giving me less control and less options is allowing me to enjoy the game more. That being said, the only armor I bother with is the N7 set, and not the ones I paid the extra money for, because it's the only set that you can ACTUALLY mess with. It's fun to have some extra stuff but since I can't even take off the helmet, bonus armors just take up memory on my HD. Scanning planets is tedious but way less tedious than trying to maneuver the mako up irritating mountains over and over just to reach the same old warehouse with bad guys in it. I'd rather go to well-designed planets every once in a while than go to the same planet every time.

In ME2:
They did a much better job making the player feel that the universe was expansive by making you fly between planets and solar systems and actually flying to a mass effect relay to travel to other galaxies. The last cut scene even showed (hopefully) the expansiveness coming in ME3.

Every weapon from each type of weapon behaved differently (play soldier class and you’ll see).

Heavy weapons were a fantastic way to replace grenades.

Every planet that you touched ground on looked and felt different; it had its own character and environment, not a different ground/sky color with a random number generator to create ground terrain.

They got rid of the Mako sequences...I liked the vehicle in theory, but after two worlds and scouring each planet for resources, that you never really used, while climbing the horrible terrain and dealing with the crappy controls and little power from the vehicle (speed up hills, having a booster in the back would have helped) itself, it got old really fast.

As someone said, you can customize your own armor. (it actually looks like armor in this game!!!)

I played the ME1 game start to finish, completing all quests, more then I can remember. While I will continue to play it to get different choices in ME2, I still prefer the upgrades in ME2 especially when it comes to the graphical, combat, and control upgrades. (We get more hotkeys for our powers and can control each party member separately! Something we as 360 owners were promised from the beginning of development in ME1.)

I think that ME 1 had the best story in gaming history but the main story in ME 2 doesnt push the story foward thers really no progression.

at the end of ME 2 you know that the reapers are coming the same thing you knew in ME 1

Yes you learn how the reapers are built, but that was the most dissapointing thing in ME 2 ( lol a terminator ? ..)

The game itself is really streamlined ....

I stated my reasons clearly on why I thought the first was better than the second. And then replied later to Inhuman saying that everything good about the game I saw as just being technology.

I still stick with my main statement that the storyline was too predictable. Just saying that ME2 is better than ME1 is only stating your opinion. Which we're all entitled to, but if you don't say why then I can just go around saying that milk is better than pop/soda just because that's my preference.

Sorry, but this topic is inappropriate for the Tech Support forum as it's not tech support related. We already have such a thread in our General Discussion forum.

End of line.
