I ask them to remove me from their calling list, and if they refuse, I hang up.

It's not a very widespread phenomenon here, so I've yet to receive my first call. But my girlfriend got a few calls some years back. She just told them that whatever they wanted, she wasn't interested and that they should stop calling her. Never heard from them again.

Depends on your country...there are numerous nasty things you can do lol.

probem with database (in the UK anyway) is that they will have paid for that database, and sourcing the origin of said database can be more hassle than its worth.

But (again if your in the UK), if you have had no prior business dealings with said company, ask the moron on the other end of the line if he is aware that buisiness cold calling without a prior business contract between yourself and his company is actually now illegal, and ask him for his first, middle and last name, and the same for his manager and area manager...

They soon leave you alone :)

Plus...if they really pi$$ you off.....(this weas a few years back on national news lol)...

Invite the guy round to tlak more (they will send someone lmao)...then when that person arrives (be sure the local press are already in your house) invite him in, lock the doors, make yourself a coffee....smoke a brew (or whatever)...

Clean your gun/knive/sword collection and tell the guy that he aint leaving till his company fax you a written oath to never contact you again hehe :)

I politely tell them I'm not interested and hang up. If I recognize them as telemarketers on my caller ID, I don't pick up the phone. I can't really be rude to them. They're regular people just doing their job. A very crappy job I'm sure they rather not do if anything better came along. Worse, those jobs tend to pay in part, if not entirely by commission. I see no reason to make them feel worse.

usually i tell them to wait a moment since all my lines are occupied, then i turn the cd player on with a Kenny G selection, put the phone beside it and go make a sandwich.

I just don't answer any calls unless I recognise the number.

There's (almost) no telemarketing in my country but if there were I'd do something like this.

"Hello, are you mister *****"

"No, I am not... I am *****"

"Oh, sorry then, wrong number!!"

The second call I repeat it's not the right number. So they stop.

Now, we simply do not answer on the phone. Everyone has his own cell phone to make calls.

I screen calls pretty religiously. If I do end up on the phone with a telemarketer I politely ask them to take me off their list and get off the phone as quickly as possible. If I end up with more than one message from an obvious telemarketer, I will call them and ask them to take me off their list.

This is a general rule but I have gotten grumpy with telemarketers on several occasions.

I registered for the "Do Not Call" registry that the US created. If a telemarketer still gets through then I ask them to take me off their list (or say I am on the "Do Not Call List") and then hang up.

That helps an awful lot, it really does in my experience. It also helps that I'm away from my home for pretty much the whole day, so I'm never around to listen to telemarketers on a landline. Avoidance is a good strategy to begin with. :D

I just say, "not interested" and hang up. Which brings me to a bit of a funny situation this got me into once when my internet provider was calling me to say I had not paid my bill yet. I did not listen to them and just said, "not interested" and I hung up the phone. A few minutes later she called back and said, "You had better be interested because you owe us money!" lol So anyway I paid my bill and all was fine and dandy but it was a bit comical though the caller could not see the humor in it at all....

I like listening to their "reading off a script" spiel and then I just hand up. Sometimes I feel sorry for the person cause reading the same thing over and over is just blah. Automated systems get the insta-hang up treatment. I have no respect for machines doing boring and mundane tasks...
