Just got to this point on my second playthrough with the same toon only to discover I couldn't get my shotty!! :(
I got the Anti-Material Sniper Rifle the first run (which I adore) and was hoping to become even more badass by suplementing with the Krogan Shotgun as well. ME IS SEHR DISAPPOINTED!! After all I did spend some time running through the same old dialogues, the same old battles and recruiting the same old team mates. Something a little extra would've been nice. :(
And what's with not starting with all your upgrades? I'd rather all enemies ran around with semi auto homing rocket launchers and quadrouple shields and armor than having to spend time looking for all those again. By the way, hacking is boring and was never any difficult.

Also, what is this I hear about an assault rifle in the pile? Are the weapon drops random or didn't the assault rifle appear due to me having the collector's edition "Collector's Assault Rifle" already?

I got to chose between the Anti-Material Sniper, the Krogan shotty (can't recall the name) and an SMG (which I can't use as soldier anyways).

I do like the game, even if I sound extremely whiny about it. ;)
I guess that after just having completed it I really don't care about the story the second time and just want to test my combat skills on higher difficulties and see if I get some neat bonuses (except for the Long Service Medal achievement ofc if you're an achievement **** ;) ). Although maybe this isn't the kind of game you replay immediately after completing it.

Soldiers get a choice of Revenant, the LMG. Not SMG.

LMG, light machine gun, replaces your AR.

I'm 99.99% sure I got a SMG as an option... I need to go see if I've got that save still.

EDIT:
It's gone due to the 50 save cap. :(

Hehe, you can't really mix em up, only the abreviations are similar. Revenant is big and red.

Just did some googling and it seems you're right. There doesn't seem to be an SMG drop.
That's a bit annoying, I didn't even cosider it since I didn't think I'd be able to use it. Although I'm a bit grateful too, cos I wouldn't trade teh snipey for anything now that I'm used to it. ^^

EDIT:
Read somewhere that I'll get a Geth Pulse Rifle this run though so I'm a bit happier now. Even if I wouldn't mind having all three Collector Ship drops. ;)

There are only three weapons available:

Revenant LMG, Widow sniper rifle, and the Claymore shotgun. There is no pistol or SMG option.

Soldiers can use any one of the three, and the fact it was an option meant you could equip it. Infiltrators can only pick a weapon skill or the Widow, and Vanguards can only pick a skill the Claymore. Everyone else only gets a weapons skill.

I've mentioned it repeatedly before in similar threads: Being able to get every weapon/skill breaks game balancing. The only viable compromise would be to let us choose a different skill or weapon, in lieu of the old one.

Soldier: Revenant Machine Gun, Widow Anti-Material (Note: That seems like a typo from BioWare, correct would be Materiel) Rifle, Claymore Shotgun.
Vanguard: Claymore Shotgun, Assault Rifle Training, Sniper Rifle Training.
Infiltrator: Widow Anti-Material Rifle, Assault Rifle Training, Shotgun Training.

All other classes can only pick the training versions.
They should have made a tier 2 Heavy Pistol and tier 2 SMG as well... but alas.

You don't have to stay in HC or Insanity to get the GPR. Just switch to HC or Insanity before you land for that mission, and keep it there until you get back to the Normandy.

That doesn't really affect me though since I've finished it on normal already (which was ridiculously faceroll) and am now playing on hardcore.
Thanks for the tip though! :)

yep and obviously you should be able to pick up another as people have posted about before if you are willing to play through as the same character multiple times :)

Actually, Haasth is entirely correct on this. Materiel is a military term, referrring to equipment and supplies neccessary for conducting missions. It is not the same word as material, though many confuse the two.

Edit: To drive the point home: http://en.wikipedia....-materiel_rifle

Thank you.
Material would be a correct English word, yes. However it is not used in relation to the military term 'Materiel'. Thus the Widow should have been named 'Anti-Materiel' instead. I think it's of French origin... though don't take my word on that.

Oh the irony. Gotta love forum english teachers who don't know what words actually are. Materiel is a word. Can I have a word with YOUR english teacher please?

This thread is nearly a year old. Why did you feel the need to post to it?
