I'm well on my way through my second playthrough and still haven't tied up a loose end from ME1 -- Where is Armistan Banes, the supposedly dead doctor who was later found to be blackmailing the doctor at the med clinic?

There was a pretty big thread on the old boards which had some intelligent discussion (on the internet? I know) about this very topic. Interesting stuff. One of the possible theories was that he's TIM, but there is absolutely nothing in Mass Effect 2 that sheds any light on him what-so-ever.

He's a relic from ME1; an untouched thread that Bioware didn't address.

Banes was found by the recon team sent by Adm. Kohuku. He was dead. The team that found him was then sent to investigate a distress signal on an uncharted world and all contact with them was lost. Kohuku asks you to investigate their last known locatioin.

He's chilling out on Akuze with the ghosts of the human colony Cerberus turned into husks in ME1, keeping his head down and hoping Shepard doesn't remember any of it.

In ME1 Anderson and Kohuku think he's ,dead, but Dr. Michel and Morlan seem to think he's alive and still active. It's either a weird miscommunication/continuity error, or a clue, albeit not one addressed thus far.

Could be either his death was faked or, as someone speculated in another Banes thread, he was a previous subject/test run for Project Lazarus. Couls just be a weird little side note, but it would be cool if it was addressed.

I was playing through this part of ME1 last night and they make it pretty clear he's connected with Cerberus. They say he was working on "top secret Alliance projects" which implies Cerberus (previously a secret Alliance organization). Also, Kohaku's men went missing in the same sector where they found Banes' body, later revealed to be a Cerberus trap. It's pretty clear that Cerberus is trying to cover Banes up, probably because the body they found wasn't actually his (kill all witnesses and whatnot).

It will be interesting to see if they ever resolve this, but I sort of have a feeling this is the result of an unfinished mission in ME1 and probably will be forgotten :(

I also suspect he was part of an unfinished side quest, or a deliberate Cerberus "loose end", rather than someone who will make a grand entrance later. Or perhaps the devs just forgot to add him.

Would have been a nice tie in with ME1, if he'd had Wilson's part... He was a medical professional after all.

there was a patch?/DLC schedueled for ME1 that helped tie up a bunch of loose ends but seeing how the game was complete enough and other more important stuff than making a few side quests / spelling errors / quest activations etc work - complete it was deemed time consuming and quickly forgot about, amongst these is explaining why female sheperd cant get with ashley anymore

"Armistan Banes" Is an anagram for Martians Beans. Its a reference to the high amount of methane on Mars. The high levels of methane indicate geological activity or LIFE. Holy Flatulence, Batman! The Riddler has outdone himself!
