Adept vs Vanguard - Insanity

What do you guys think would be a better choice for my next class? Knowing my interest in the game, I would more than likely play both of them anyway. But which one should I pick first.

I think between the two classes Vanguard sounds like more fun, so long as you can accept that there will be times when using Charge = suicide and you have to use other tools/tactics.

here..plenty of ammo for both sides.
Oh I've been following Gatsby's Adept guide quite regularly actually. I just came across thisisme8's Vanguard guide and watched a couple of his vids and I thought that the class itself looks fun as hell. Prior to seeing those videos, I was convinced that I was going to play an Adept next game, now I'm torn between the two.

Lol, I made a similar thread (Adept vs. Vanguard for 2nd Insanity run) and after reading the feedback I got convinced to try Engineer.

BTW, how are you enjoying the Engineer?

I'm playing on insanity using the adept and it's a blast so far... literally. With the right squadmates using debuffs, you can shred through an entire room in seconds (until another wave comes in anyway). The adept is such a power house.

I think I agree with this. Engineer and Adept are theoretically similar strategies in how they approach and attempt to control a fight, whereas Vanguard requires a different approach from any other class, really.Hellraisin wrote...
I'd say go with Vanguard first. Adept play style is a lot like an Engineer, CC and strip down defence then nuke. Vanguard would be a totally different ball game.
It takes a lot of adjusting at first when you play Vanguard, but once you get over the learning curve it's one of the funnest classes in the game. Just be prepared to die a lot as you figure out who and where to charge.

Love it. Drone spam is so situationally amazing. I've survived situations that would wreck most other classes (flanked by a Krogan/YMIR/Geth Hunter/Scion etc.). I survived a few stretches on Horizon with both squad members down that I'd never have managed normally thanks to drone spam.
I only have 1 pt in drone though atm....1 is all you really need for drone spam to be effective on big nasties so it seems like it's an "all or nothing" skill.....either take 1 and just bust it out when really needed or take Exploding Drone and use it often. I might respec to Exploding Drone late game, stealing some points from Overload (which is useless vs. Collectors anyways).
I'm currently on Tali's recruitment mission....team is Garrus with max Overload, Sheppard with 3 pt Overload, Zhaed with Squad Disrupter Ammo. Stuff is just falling over, it's awesome.
But yeah,

Stuff is just falling over, it's awesome. Most other missions I've ran with Miranda and Jacob (Squad Incind Ammo). My bonus power is Reave, which sounds weird considering that Incinerate is almost as good as Reave anyways.....but I really like what Reave does to unshielded organics and I like that it takes down Barriers. Might switch to AP ammo later, but doubt it.
But yeah,the class.
I strongly suggest picking up Explosive Drone. The reason for this is that the strategy based aaround spamming the drone on powerful targets and distracting enemies. Adding the explosive trait to it deals damage everytime it is destroyed, thus making it easier to pick away at their shields / armor. This is the build I found to be most beneficial for my playstyle
+4 Overload - Heavy
+4 Incinerate - Heavy
+ 4 Combat Drone - Heavy
+ 2 AI Hacking
+ 3 Cryo Blast
+4 Engineer - Demolisher
+1 (Or 2.. can't remember) Armor Piercing / Warp Ammo.
Incinerate increases your damage by a ton vs organics and it is one way to wear down the Collectors. Overload is extremely beneficial vs synthetics and is also great against mercs. We both know the Drone's benefits. I rarely AI Hacking, only using it one or two times on Legion's Loyalty. Cryo blast is situational, but I found myself using it more later on in the game. I found that armor piercing / warp ammo was incredibly beneficial, mainly because it didn't require a cooldown. When I fought on the collector ship, I respecced so I could get squad warp ammo and then just brought Miranda and Thane with me. I picked off the collectors quite fast doing that.

As a Vanguard, I don't think you can get tired of chain-charging everything on the map and shotgunning them at point blank.

I think it has to do with how you spec your team. On Insanity, low level skills aren't enough to one hit defenses, so you have to concentrate points into one skill and distribute skill allocation across characters. So for the beginning of the game, Miranda ONLY has Overload - because nearly all her points are going into it. Likewise, you will likely focus points on Warp, then Pull and Throw to setup, letting Jacob setup with Pull until you have a spare point for it.

Uhm. Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. Until the powers reach that level it is difficult.Roxlimn wrote...
