To be honest, I'm kinda surprised that BioWare hasn't expanded on the matter in FAQ during these last few days or at least that some devs haven't posted a reasoning or two, given the community's outburst on the matter. It just seems like a cheap and nonsensical cop-out.

It's an expansion coming out 5 months after the original game shipped. They probably had to prioritize what issues they thought were important early on and figured that the majority of people who did the US would still want to play in Awakening.

And to be sure, *many* on the forum were asking for just that ability.

They're going to drag their feet about clarifying for as long as possible because the longer they don't say anything the more the board will calm down. Besides, it's possible they're looking into fixing the problem.

About a week before ME 2 dropped, Chris told everyone that you could import a max of 11 saves. The forums broke out in a frothy rage. Two days later, he came back and said that he was misinformed and that wasn't the case anymore.

There will be conversation options that pop up at the beginning of Awakenings that you can choose (with your new Warden) that can reflect the choices you made in Origins.

Yes, as I've mentioned, that workaround would be okay with me.

I said this in another thread- It's probably technically impossible to import the DEAD WARDEN then play as another WARDEN. Therefore- the easy answer is:

There will be conversation options that pop up at the beginning of Awakenings that you can choose (with your new Warden) that can reflect the choices you made in Origins. For example:

Little Kid: So what happened to the Warden? (Lets pretend this is a story being told)
A. He died.
B. She died.
C. She lived, and went on to rule with Alistair
D. He lived, and went on to rule with Anora.

Etc, etc.

Just because you cannot import your dead warden doesn't mean they haven't figured out a way to input your old decisions into the game. Until more information comes out- I still won't understand why people are freaking out. There is absolutely no reason they would make a choice like that then kill it off in the expansion.

Well if it is techically impossible then it wont be happening and there is not much anybody can do about it, except play a game where you choose the ritual or sacrifice Alistar.......however the Kotor 2 thing should work to allow your choices to be shown.

Just a copout. If they did that, then you will KNOW what you can or can not change. They can check a save game as easily as the game loading a game at the last boss and see what armys you have recuited.

I'm not angry at all. It is somewhat surprising to see a gaming company which only a few short months ago "apparently" prided itself on story and meaningful, tough choices now seemingly ready to discard it all for the sake of a few bucks. I say "apparently" - since a number of choices had as little impact as I expected, and where choices actually did have a major impact, some weren't as advertised, what with the blatently obvious good vs evil slant. I'll be looking forward to see what other gaming companies produce, but angry about not spending money on this? Hardly.

I'd go as far as to say that the timeframe is the primary cause of all the issues related to importing saved data/why we can't bring back our DLC.

[minirant]

I know that it isn't soley BioWare's fault: they have deadlines to meet, and sacrifices must be made. Still, you think they'd find a way to include the content that we paid for with real-life money.

[/minirant]

Anyway, I can't say that the Ultimate Sacrifice thingy bothers me too much. Yes, I'd like to import my decisions without importing my character, but I won't let myself skip out on this for something so petty.

Given that they made the character import/creation utility, they could have done it. At this point, I doubt it's possible without delaying the game at least a month.

There will be conversation options that pop up at the beginning of Awakenings that you can choose (with your new Warden) that can reflect the choices you made in Origins...

For this to be the case, someone would have had to decide months ago that having the old PC's decisions reflected while playing a new PC. And if it were decided months ago, they could have just made it part of the import/creation screen.

You’re assuming BioWare thought people would want to import their data but still play as a new Warden. Given that they say ‘If you don’t care, we don’t care..’ I don’t think that assumption holds.

David Gaider seems to have thought of it and expected it to be in the game, and was surprised when it posed problems -- but of course there would be no reason for him to work on the programming side of things.

It seems more like imperfect communication between the writing side and the programming side than indifference.

Which is why we have to bring on the rage, as perhaps the person who made the FAQ was in fact misinformed.

Unleash your rage people!!!

A bioware Mod said awhile ago that they couldnt make your dead chracter choices go through the ogw, So i think they made alot of past choices useless, Since we now know that if we sacrifice our character we just come back to life, theres no need to think of sacrificing alistaor or logain so morrigan wont have a demi god child. THE CHOICE IS GONE.

I would certainly like some clarification of the point. And I can empathise with those players who identify most with an ultimate sacrifice save and are concerned about whether they will be able to properly continue their story in the expansion.

Thats what i said above, this topic is to show people are upset and we would like to know if the orlesian has canon choices attached to him or not.

If you dont care about the US then there is not point to comment

Ah but you see there is a fatal flaw in your arguement... IF all you wanted was a yes or no poll? then maybe you should have created a 'yes/no' poll.  :P  A 'thread's whole point is for 'discussion', thus there is almost always dissenting posts within any thread.

I sign for a clarification. And to get the DLC items properly implemented. 5 months is an insanely short time for a proper expansion, and 40 bucks is a nice chunk of change for a game that took 5 months to make. Don't get sloppy, Bioware! Take an extra month to do things right. It will pay off in the long run.

Has anyone gotten any signs of hope yet? iv been searching found nothing.

If the US has to be kicked to the curb, fine. but i really hope when i import my warden i get to pick what actully happend. if it just puts it so alistar is alive and i didnt do the dark ritual i will be even more upset. I really want the story to work

Yeah, I hadn't thought of the idea of choosing what happened. Admittedly it cheapens the feel of continuing a legacy, but being able to replicate your personal outcome would be just fine with me.

I'll sign this because it would be a weird/poor decision to entirely ignore any warden that died (US).
