On my way to Redcliffe after completing the dalish part of the quests, i get ambushed by a large number of darkspawn. There are 2 shriekers and a dozen of archers sieging some wimp elf scouts.
This seems simply impossible.

I tried to shoot the archers while the shriekers happily chew on the scouts, i tried to melee them down, too, but the shriekers finish too early and five archers plus two shriekers are simply too much.
I also tried to cut through the barricade and help the scouts by scrapping the shriekers first. But their stunning special is too tough. My team is around level 8.

Do you have a mage? A status inflicting spell, such as Cone of Cold, should work wonders against the Shriekers.



In fact, I'll just say this: Cone of Cold solves everything. Rampaging ogre? Cone of Cold. Dogs about to rout your party? Cone of Cold. Teen pregnancy? Cone of Cold. It's like the duct tape of the magical community.

the encounters seem random. I died on some bandit ambush on the way to redcliff, reloaded, and all I got was a merchant. On one ambush encounter I lowered the difficulty level, those battles are hard as you are vastly outnumbered and can't control your starting position.

Oh good, i thought it is a hardcoded setup as it happened to be near the ruined Lothering village.
