As in would we try to make characters modeled after us more attractive?
Well I generally don't make chars that look like me, I don't see the point. But if I tried I'd just use facegen - a nicely accurate and honest program. I am content with the way I look, and I'm generally considered attractive in RL :) So no big "honesty" issue for me there.

Pardon me Shodan, good name BTW....and you said you dont see the point! I would think many would love to play themselves in RPG roles, than again maybe not...Image IPB i think it makes it more realistic...

Why I don't see the point? I my self would never kill a person unless exidently or in desperate self difence, and would never have an urge to save the world :D If placed in situation when I'm "forced" to do that I would run and hide somewhere abroad... Or in the woods - I like nature. That's what I as my self would do, and I'm honest about that :D
I create chars that I can empathize with for gaming, someone who would save the world and have enough in common with me to be my representation... Maybe a version of me that I may have been if I was born in another world, another culture another time. My chars usually have something in common with me visually as probably since I tend to gravitate to something familiar while drawing or making character faces, but no to the point of being my exact copy.
P.S. Thank you for the name comment, not many people get it this days :) It was a joke first, but than it got "glued" to me, so I added a letter and let it be :D

i think JEBesh is a woman

i dont think many people bother trying to make it look like them.

Takes too long and your not gonna get it exactly how you want it.

Not exactly, it's too much work to try and build yourself and I rather go for something a bit more... wild.

I do however borrow some features. For example, I have blond hair and a fairly pale skin colour - most of my major characters will always share these traits. I guess it's because it's more fun to control a character you can relate to even just slightly, rather then a complete stranger.

OK..OK.. I admit it..... If any RPG gives the option to create your own PC's ingame look  I've always tried to make the final product look as close to my auctual face as possible (honestly so I can really feel like I'm leaving this World and entering another....LOL...escape dammn you escape...!!)

Comon now...be honest, how many of you do the same thing? Image IPB

Nah. I have made attempts but always cancelled before actually making the character. Why? Because I can never actually get it close enough, and if I did, it'd actually be a bit freaky to see my face running around doing this stuff.

For story reasons, I'd have to do things I don't normally do, so it'd be really strange seing in-game-me not acting like me at all.

I don't do it in this type of game (as I do at the sims), mostly because of limited options, but I usually give them my name in some playthroughs... I just noticed I haven't done it this time, but it's ok, I don't want to give my name to any of them after all.

.....I'm prettier than this man.

I used to make my character look like myself. I think I just gave up after realizing, "I look better than any of my characters I tried to make look like me." lol

Aspects of my characters are similar to myself but on the whole look nothing like me. Also I really don't want to play myself in the game.

I normally build a char thinking along the lines if he's going to be force for good or he'll be wicked? With the options I have with the CC, it becomes fun to create the "paladin" and the "villain" chars. So far, I think my experiences have been unsucesseful. But I'm trying...

My hypothesis is that there are 2 styles of role-playing, which are probably reflected somewhat by the choice of avatar.

There is the "heavy" version, in which you assume a character vastly different that yourself, whose in-game actions (and presumably, looks) are very different from yours.  This is usually considered the "pure" form of role-playing, more akin to what an actor strives for.

Then there is the "light" version, where you assume an idealized version of yourself.  You project your actions (and, again, presumably your looks) through a filter, exagerating the heroism (or anti-heroism) inherent in your idealized persona.

I've played (and played with gamers of) both styles in PC RPGs, along with pen/paper RPGs, and have had fun both ways.  For this game, I'll probably start with the 'light' version, and all my replay's will be "heavy" role-playing.  Bioware tends to design games with deep enough stories to accomade both styles.

Btw, I pulled above "hypothesis" out of my... well, I mean, I just made it up.  But, it sounds logical, doesn't it?

Yeah, I do this if I'm not thrilled with the other races. If I'm human, it's gonna look like me.

In one of my playthroughs i always just play myself. How I would act.

It just makes sense to recreate myself as the character in appearance as well then.

The Jurgenus character in my uploads is kinda how i look.

""kinda"" as for some reason i never manage to succeed in portraying myself just right. I want a face scanner :P

Personally, I have never made a character and intended it to look like myself. I usually make/play male or female characters, it widely varies from game-to-game. For the latter it would be hard to "play myself" since i'm not a female.

My prime motivation for playing these (Bioware) games is for the story, if I feel like a particular gender or playstyle (alignment) might enhance my gaming experience I might put a conscious effort to making a character with that gender/background or playing that way.

However, my first play-through is usually with a character I can relate too and also with choices I would naturally make IRL. So, you could say "I am playing myself" but it's not intended to be that way. On replays I try to branch out it my character choices and my in-game choices, purely for the sake of the story.
