This may have been asked, but why did the collectors not help Sovereign?

If the collectors helped the Geth, then the reapers lose another valuable resource and a plan B should the Geth fail.

Keepers=Plan A
Geth=Plan B
Collectors=Plan C
???=Plan D (the plot of ME3 no doubt)

It would probably be more accurate to claim that Harbinger isn't a team player, seeing as the Collectors themselves are little more than mindless slaves at this point in time.

It could be that he/she/it simply thought that Sovereign was capable of opening the Citadel relay and felt that there was no need for the Collectors to assist in that particular effort. Arrogance and a sense of false superiority seem to be common traits amongst Reapers.

Why even have a plan B? Did the reapers have any reason to believe plan A wouldn't work?

Sovereign spent a lot of time working on trying to find an army. I'm not sure there were enough collectors for an army, but they sure would have helped.

I thought the Asari messenger pretty much confirmed the Rachni war was the responsibility of the Reapers as well, so they would have been plan B.

How would they have helped? They have one vessel which is really only good for hit and run attacks and gets destroyed even by an un-upgraded Normandy at the end. The collector ground troops are really more of the commando type too, they just don't have the staying power of the Krogan or bigger Geth which is exactly what Saren needs at the end.

I got the impression that Plan D was pretty much pull a Leroy Jenkins. Plans A, B and C didn't work so lets get to the galaxy using conventional FTL. Then again, the whole dark energy thing and Haestroms sun might have a major part to play.

The Collectors were probably going to be used in the harvest after Sovereign opened the Citadel Relay. They're abducters, not straight up fighters. The only time they're any good at direct fighting is when they have Praetorians, Scions and Harbinger fighting for them.

Reapers are each a nation. Harbinger wouldn't share his toys with Sovereign any more than the U.S. would share nuclear secrets with Iran.
