I do all the quests and grab anything that's not nailed down to sell, but I'm always finding myself short on cash and wondering exactly how I can afford the stuff that's priced at 8 gold.

Any suggestions?

Sell random crap you pick up/don't need, and do side missions.

You aren't supposed to afford the expensive stuff right away, or all of it. Just keep going. I just finished my third major quest after the 'split' and got 150+ gold over the course of it. I've been using it on spell and talent tomes mainly, but I imagine you'll be able to easily get two or three of the 100+ gold items by end-game without using any sort of 'money trick'.

+1. I'm sitting on 200 and I've wasted ton. early on you always seem to be out of money but it isnt a problem later unless you're doing something really dumb

I wish the UI would say what you robbed so I don't have to keep checking my inventory to see if I got something notable or not...

Selling arrows is a good way to get some cash early on if you can find em and dont want to use them.

Great advice! I too was looking at a cash shortage.

Something that wasn't mentioned is that you can sell those precious gems b/c they are vendor trash. I've been hanging on to those things for sooooo long... sigh.

Best cash reward is from the side-quest, Precious Metals. A single Fed-Ex run without fighting will make as much as 58 gold bars (plus a Crow Dagger), ...IF your coercion up to the 4th level. At coercion 3 or so you can only make 48 max, so I usually hold out until my coercion level is up to 4. You get a ton of other bonus quests and stuff also from other quests also, if your coercion level is up high.

Second best cash reward is probably by letting the spirit go in the side-quest, Asunder. You get 25 gold bars for that, just for letting him go. You get nothing but a tiny amount of xp for fighting him.

There are actually 16 types of people in the world, those who understand hexadecimal and those that do not.

?

Is that a jab at him for not wanting to increase his gold amount by cheating or modifying hexadecimal values?

Anyways, sell everything, steal from everyone, get a healer or two asap to save you on heal pot costs, run non-combat side quests as soon as you can, especially some from the innkeeper in Denerim.  When you sell stuff, try and sell to vendors you can easily access in case you need to buy something back later, like the party camp dwarf.  Minor spoiler, you need 10 garnets and 15 toxin extracts for various quest turn-ins.

Generally, I found I could buy 1 uber piece of loot that cost ~100g from the NPC vendors for each plot branch cleared.   There's about 5-6 of these in the game.  By the end I was able to buy most of the great pieces that I wanted, although this may change from playthru to playthru.

Stop drinking potions for non-boss fights. Don't buy gear except backpacks and maybe one or two items per character.  Jack up Coercion skill.

Was wondering... What skill makes things cheaper at shops and get you more money when selling stuff - For instance, in many other rpg's you would put points into your barter skill to increase your profits when selling and pay less when buying, How do you do this in Dragon Age?

Consider selling anything & everything on a cost/benefit basis.

For example, an injury kit sells for more than three times as much as a minor injury kit, but only heals three injuries. Therefore, it is worth more as cash than as a healing device.
Magic arrows do very little damage above what a bow does, and many of them miss anyway. However, they are worth a significant amount each.
And so on

i had a gold problem on my first character and i wasnt able to buy even potions but on my second character i finished my 4th major quest ( 80% side quests done ) and now got 450 gold while goin on those steps :

1 - never buy weapons/gears but only for ur main character if you really need to.
2 - keep lookin for herbs and try not to miss any so you can make potions for urself coz it's actually expensive and can eat ur money if u kept buyin them.
3- NEVER use potions on non boss fights , u could use it on mini bosses tho if u really really need to , so better save from time so u can feel free to die and restart better than usin potions on non boss fights.
4- 99% of the players get bored after completein about 70% of the game and just keep killin and ignoring loot and that's totaly wrong , coz u better ignore loot at the beginin but after 50% of the game loot get higher rates and much more expensive items to sell so u just need to loot every corpse on sight.
5- only important items u need from vendors only on MAIN characters are : backpacks - flasks - tomes only for ur class.

important note : Side Quests is the most way u can make shed loadz of gold from ... hope this will help you ...Good Luck mate

Try running the chantry, mage, and mercenary side quests (via the various "job boards"). The rewards are usually a few gold for each quest completion.
