Make Potent Lyrium potions and sell them. The ingredients cost less than the completed product. I spent an hour running between the Denerim bar (flasks and agents) and the Mage Tower (Lyrium Dust) and got over 1,000 gold. Kind of boring but nice to be able to try all the really good stuff.

Zevran suggests prostitution to Alistair. You could make a mint as his pimp.

Rob everyone with Leliana. You might get some good loot, I got a tier 7 crossbow from some shopkeeper

You get that if you rob the merchant in Lothering who wants you to run off the priest.  Don't remember his name.

There are actually 16 types of people in the world, those who understand hexadecimal and those that do not.

Err ?!?

The version with binary makes sense:

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who dont.

Because 10bin = 2dec.

BUT: 16hex = 24dec. You still only mention 2 cases, not 16 and even less 24.

Your statement therefore makes no sense whatsoever.

Haha, so true.  I read that quote by montanta_boy and I thought, "this one totally missed the point of the joke".  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

On a side note: the potent lyrium recipe thing is a good idea... but you'll have to be willing to put in a lot of time for your money.  Also, in another post, someone mentioned that to make 1k gold you'll end up clicking 16k times to make pots!

It's funny you should say that given that 16hex is actually 22dec (16+6=22).

Coincidentaly the hexidecimal version of the 'there are 10 types of people in the world those that understand binary and those who don't' is properly 'there are only DEAD people in the world who understand hex' or some such variant of that.

Hmmm... I earned about 930 sovereigns so far - without any exploits... and I'm still before Landsmeet. Neither have I done Warden's Keep yet.

So eventually gold really isn't much of an issue.

I honestly wish I didn't read this thread lol. was about to suggest silly things like looting everything, never throwing anything away, stealing from everyone, playing dwarf noble and selling to your dwarfen friend in denerim, only use your money on the best item available for a certain slot aswell as mentioning a few lucrative side quests. the lyrium trick and the elfroot trick pretty much nullifies the game though.

+1. I'm sitting on 200 and I've wasted ton. early on you always seem to be out of money but it isnt a problem later unless you're doing something really dumb

We need spesifics on the "really dumb" part...  The only time I make "extra cash" is when I send the bard out to pick pockets.  Thankfully nobody goes hostile on failures, because she has a lot of those.  The gold is as tight as it was in Neverwinter.  I really hate picking a locked chest just to find a set of smelly old gauntlets.  Who locks up their gloves?!  Dwarves do!!

Outfitting a mage in the best stuff is expensive. Staff of Magister Lord, Spellward Amulet, reapers' vestments and Aduils belt don't come cheap. That's 500 gold right there.

In Asunder, you're letting a very dangerous beast go for 25 sovereigns.

Actually, you can get 200 gold with the in-game bug w/ the Asunder Quest.

1-- Position each of your characters right against the alter so they're touching it.
2-- Pause the game and click the altar w/each of your characters.
3-- Click "Let monster go free" 4 times= 200 gold Posted Image

Dwarf Nobles can leave their origin story with 40+ gold also, they are one of the easier money factories in the game.

Once I discovered the trade screen cheat on the PC I can't resist doing it every time now. I know it makes a nonsense of the challenge but why struggle if you don't have to?

Not sure if this was mentioned, but whenever you get into a situation where you ahve temporary companions.  Strip all their gear before you loose them.

Human Noble Origin Story:
- Take all the gear from your mother and I think there is a guy that helps you kill the rats.  Take all his gear.

Mage Origin Story:
- Take all of Jowan's and the Lily's gear before exiting.

Ostagar:
- Take all of the warden recruit's gear before doing the ritual.

Ogre Battle in Ostagar
- Depending if oyu ahve the dog or not, you can get up to 2 people in the end to help.  Take all their gear before triggering the fire.

***All of that gear builds up gold and I always have enough money to buy the first spell tome from bodahn in camp on my first visit.  That'll get me 2 spell tomes from him.

There's also a TON of gold available after you complete the 4 main story missions.

-During Rescue the Queen, there's a treasure room near Arl Howe's room that has like 15-20 gold.

-Demand a reward from that jerk Vaughan Kendells from the City Elf origin. He's locked up in the dungeon. He'll give you a key to a lockbox in his room that has 40 gold in it.

-Rescue the guy on the torture table in the dungeon (sorry, dont have his name handy) and then go and talk to his father in the Gnawed Noble Tavern. You can demand a reward of 40 more gold.

-If your PC has at least one point in Stealing, you can get a couple of new missions from Slim Couldry at this point. One where you steal Loghain's crown in the Noble Tavern and steal the Tears of Andraste from the Bann of West Hill's estate both of which can be sold for good gold. (doing all of Slim's quests can get you a lot of gold especially)

Precious Metals Quest: Make sure you always side with Mages in the Broken Circle quest! If you dont, you'll miss out on a ton of gold because Godwin in the Circle Tower will be dead. Go to Dust Town with 50 gold (40 if you have high enough coercion) Talk to the smuggler and he'll give you some lyrium you can take to Godwin in the Circle Tower. He'll give you 65 gold (with a high persuasion) then go back to the smuggler and he'll give you up to 25 gold. I just found out you can pickpocket him for 20 gold, too. (even though at the bottom of the screen, it said I only got 56 silver but my gold total increased by 20 gold anyways, odd)

If you sided with the Templars, you get only 12 gold for selling the lyrium and 20 gold from pickpocketing Rogek.

-If you sell all the equipment you get while trekking through the Orzammar underground, there's a ton of gold to be had there, too.

You could do the gold cheat with one item in the junk and sell/buy it back and forth. Or get Shale and his weapons before Redcliffe. Then convince Llyod to join the fight, and have him die. This will leave Bella in charge, this will allow you to get all of Lloyd's stockroom items for free. Exit and re-enter the tavern. Her stock will be replenished and you can buy low-tier crystals for dirt cheap here, and sell them elsewhere for 1 gold.

That's a sweet chunck of change.  I did it for the first time every today.

I have full coerccion line.  Godwin gave me 65 plus a dagger and I got 25 gold from teh other guy and pickpocketed him for 20 gold.  When I did the pickpocket, it just said item recieved.  It never gave me a specific quantity.

Is it possible to get more gold from Godwin?  I saw an option to intimidate for more gold to keep things quiet.  I didn't try it, but I think you could have gotten more.

It's niiiice. You can net about 60 gold in that Precious Metals quest, which I usually take and buy the Lifegiver. (seems to be how my games always work!)

About the pickpocketing, it's kind of weird in this game. It'll say you got one thing but you got something else or sometimes, you get nothing even though it said you did. And another thing is that Mabari Crunches seem to constantly show up in my inventory even though I never bought or made them. I thought I was getting them through pickpocketing but then I stopped doing that and they still kept showing up. I just sell them though you dont get much. Very strange, though.

Anyhow, I actually tried to intimidate Godwin today and he ran away and gave me nothing! So, I had to reload the game and persuade him instead.

Yes, you can persuade Godwin for the initial 65 gold and the dagger, then talk to him again and blackmail him for another 8 gold.

I did all that, and nothing.  Lloyd survived the battle (with lots of healing), but I gave the tavern to Bella.  When I asked to see her goods the first time, I cleaned out everything but the wine.  Now, each time I go back, with Shale or not, there is nothing restocked.

Shale is level 11.  Do I need a higher level to see these crystals appear?

The crystal trick doesn't work on PC's, just on consoles.

On PC's just enable the developer console and give yourself all the cash you want.

What?   What's a "developer console"?   (If search was working on these forums, I'd search for it.  Sigh!)
