Dwarven Merchant's Belt can also help you pick up coin. This actually made a significant difference for me, I was surprised. My warrior last game wore this, and he never suffered gold shortage, despite buying quite a bit of gear. Whereas my mages were chronically poor until they got done with Orzammar.

I've heard about an exploit in the actual dwarven noble opening (no, not the Gorim easter egg later on), that lets you make 4-5 gold before you reach Ostagar. But I've never made that work.

The Dalish opening can be very good for coin...or absolutely dreadful. It's potluck based on the chest drops. Ironically to me, the worst opening for money seems to be the human noble origin.

You're right. You dont get much at all starting off with the Human Noble. Even less if you're not a Rogue. You have to pass up around 10-12 chests and a locked door or two with items behind them if you're a warrior. I never liked that but fortunately, there are a ton of ways to make money later on. You just have to start off broke!

Questan. I tried the Potent Lyrium Potion trick but I never seem to make any money with that.

The easiest way to make money in when u do the redcliff quest make sure u force Lloyd the tavern-owner to fight, that way he makes Bella incharge. She will give u everything for FREE. This only works if u have "The Stone Prisoner" DLC because only the stones Shale uses are avalable. So what you need to do is go into the tavren, take stones from Bella, leave tavern. Then rinse and repeat.

My guess is you bought your ingredients from Bodahn.

Differing merchants sell at different prices.

Bodahn sells at rather high prices. I think he's third highest in the game. Ruck is first, followed distantly by the Tranquil at the Wonders of Thedas.

Figor sells flasks for less than anyone else, in unlimited quantities. He is in Orzammar.

The Quartermaster in the Circle Tower sells lyrium cheapest, also in unlimited quantities.

The Bartender in the Gnawed Nobleman tavern sells concentrator and distillation agents cheapest, and in unlimited quantities.

Who you sell to really doesn't matter, unless your computer gets flaky if the merchant inventory gets too large. However, if you are a dwarf noble, you will want to sell to Gorim. Because you really ought to sell everything to Gorim if you're an Aeducan.

And because your old buddy Gorim pays you twice as much as any other merchant! :)

I've been to Orzammar (for a brief visit) but I haven't been able to find Figor to open his shop! :) So here's what I did (as an example of making 100 potent lyrium potions):

- Go to the Circle Tower and buy 400 lyrium dust (about 10 gold).
- Go to the Gnawed Nobel bartender in Denerim and buy 200 Concentrator agent (66 gold),, 200 Distillation agent (26 gold), and 100 flasks (1 gold).
- Make 100 potent lyrium potions out of that, at a cost of 103 gold.
- Sell to any merchant for 125 gold, for a profit of 22 gold. You can repeat this forever.
- If you are a dwarven nobel, sell the potions to Gorim for 250 gold, for a profit of 147 gold (so a dwarf noble gets rich 7 times faster! :) )

If you don't have the 103 gold, but you do have 50 gold (or 40 gold and high Persuasion), stop by Rogek in Ozrammar (Dust Town) and do his quest for 68 gold, and pickpocket him for another 20 gold. Blackmail Godwin by persuading him again for another 8 gold. Then buy what you can for that. It's quicker to buy more lyrium than you can use in one trip, then make multiple trips to the Denerim bartender.

Figor has to be unlocked. He's having trouble with the Carta. For you to buy from him, you have to solve his problem.
