I find the difficulty in this game a bit off, on Normal its easy/tolerable some of the time but then it can in some situations be near impossible and very frustrating but when you switch down to easy its a cake walk, far to easy and no challenge at all, complete polar opposites and both equally as annoying.

Now lots of people seem happy to reload your games and try a mountain of different tactics, don't give up etc, but the sad fact is for me I have a often stressful and challenging job, I have a kid and a wife to look after when I get home so when I finally get on the PC to play I don't have a lot of time to keep reloading and loosing battles until I finally win only to repeat the same process for the next battle, any game would last 100hrs in that instance, Im sure you can all appreciate that but at the same time easy is always too easy and rarely challenging in the least, there needs to be a happy medium IMO.

I don't get it, i have no problem beating any fights in this game. I play normal difficulty. yes some fights are challenging but this is not an action rpg. It is an Strategy RPG. So far i have never had a complete whipe of my party. Some die at times but i have yet to face a foe i have not been able to beat. The only hard fights so far for me has been some boss fights, but they have always been doable. The Warden's Keep quest was rely easy. Just remember to have a tank type character and a healer. And try not to only get damaging spells. Get some crowd control spells like horror or paralyze.

Me and a friend was a bit worried when we heard of all the complaints of this game being to hard. But has been suprissed at how balanced the difficulty is. I play warrior with shield spec, and he plays a mage. And so far it seems the difficulty is ok for us both. So stop complaining about a game that apperantly you can't master and either lower the difficulty or play something else. Just stop complaining.

And to Bioware, do not change the normal difficulty and instead increase the difficulty on easy and call the easy mode that is now very easy.

Every once and a while I'll be coasting along and run into a very difficult part. At first I have a knee jerk reaction and say that's impossible as the boss destroys my party in a few seconds. Then I try again and eventually get past the part that I can't without turning down the difficulty. After the battle I usually look back at things and say, man that wasn't that bad. Dragon Age is kind of like any other video game ever made, in the fact that: the more you play the game; the easier it becomes.

It's not so much that the game is impossible. It's more of how much frustration and retries does one want to deal with in order to press onward in the game. I will say, from playing a few different party combinations(and difficult settings), that the game is easier depending on what characters you use in the different scenarios.

The game IS hard until you find a way to start beating encounters. Playing wynne in the magi chain turned things around for me, I had great difficulty with the first revenant in that chain but after that everything dies the first time. Funny the things I tend to die to (or allistiar) is trash with a ranged boss hiding far behind it.

Yeah exactly! This is so far removed from WoW mechanics lol!

Yes and no.

***Spoiler Warning***

The rage demon has other creatures that allow it to regenerate health. You have to kill the auxiliary mobs with other party members will focusing on the demon. Once they are dead, switch those party members to the demon, then back to the regen mobs when they appear.

I've seen that mechanic in 5-man dungeons and raids a dozen times over. It's not rocket science. And guess what? Things do go bad sometimes, and you have to re-load and re-consider the approach.

***End Spoiler***

I'm just amazed that people are so angry that they have to work at this. After my first play-through, my wife started a mage and is wrecking the game on Normal. The last RPG she played was diablo 2, and has been out of the gaming scene since. She also is patient enough to plan her attacks, and with the pause function, she can take all the time she needs.

- This game is impossible. On the verge of giving up.
near
- Game is too easy: Finally finished hard difficulty solo (with pics+spec+tips)

 People will never stop whining about difficulty in both ways. That kinda means difficulty is quite right.

This game is only remotely difficult on the first playthrough when you don't know what skills to pick. 3/4 through my second Nightmare run as a Rogue and have only died ~10-20 times. :<

Just seriously use your party. Don't try to rambo, plan skills properly, use stuns, etc. It's not hard. =(

That said, fighting the final boss of Orzammar (on Nightmare, bullheaded pride wouldn't let me change it down) on my first run drove me nearly to tears, I died more there on that run than the entirety of this one put together. Three poorly planned squishy characters and one poorly armed warrior -> not good. Took me 3 hours. But I didn't give up. :)

Typical disclaimer: I've played every RPG there is. I'm no noob.

This game is killing me. Every time I go up against a yellow or orange enemy, my party dies. I'm currently around level 7, playing warden's keep and its one frustration after the next. What the hell am I missing? Do I really need to set the game to Easy? This is definitely one of the most infuriating games I've ever played.

A couple Warden's Keep specific issues below (spaced for spoilers):
.
.
.
.
It took three tries to kill the rage demon. It seemed to be constantly regenerating health and I have no idea why.
The possessed female warden also killed my party once before I managed to kill her. Also, there seems to be a bug as I didn't receive a set bonus after equipping all of her armor.
Right now I'm at the point of the mage trying to close the gates and, again, its impossible.

Very very frustrated.
