I'm in support of giving genuine M/M and F/F romances, as I'm on the fence on weather the Asari can be considered "female" for the intent of pairing due to the fact that based on my understanding the exchange is more mental and less...physical. And I agree with Shep you have a heck more control over his history than any of the origins in Dragon Age-they're the equivalent of playing Sheps basic training in Mass Effect.

Oh god yes. The fact that they kept reusing that garbled nonsense language for Kythang? I forgot the language name annoyed the heck out of me. If you're going to recycle lines all the time at least have it be actual chinese!

Heh.  It was so long ago I can't remember the actual line, but there was an instance where one of the speakers went on for like half a minute of that language, and the actual text underneath was just "Thank you" or something.

In other news, my straight married brother just told he me thought it was weird that they didn't have gay options in this game.

Asari are just as sexual as any other spec.... humans and turians. Liara did crawl naked over Shepard after all. The mental stuff is just extra, like toys or stuff.; Liara was a full blown F/F romance.

I thought it was weird at first too. BioWare is my slash fix. So I heard about Mass Effect and was like : " :O" Space Slash!!!!

Then I realize there's no male slash and I pretty much ended up like ":crying:"

Sad panda. I became.

Seriously. I guess that's what I get for not reading reviews though. <_<

I like how a lot of new sources and commentators were confused at Mass Effect 2 not having same sex romances. It seems that BioWare set a standard for itself; one I hope they decide to live up to with this game.

Really what were they thinking!  They could have had the entire fanfic slash market.  O.O  (Which if fanfic.net is to be believed is not insignificant lol!)  This is really an untapped market in the US.  ^^

Also carrying something over from another thread, I totally think I'm a Jack/Miranda shipper now.

I hope they handle it the same way they did it with Tali and Garrus,
I mean there was no real indication in ME1 that there would ever be more then friendship with either of them.

And I'm still hoping for an awkward "I had the hots for you ever since we met, Kaidan" dialogue between Menshep and Kaidan in ME3.:P

Make it possible, Bioware, I know you can do it!

I think this is viable. I think a Shep/Kaidan romance could be accessible in ME 3 only if the player has a save game where s/he didn't romance anyone in ME1 or ME2. Only the m/m holdouts would likely have such a save (like myself) so those uninterested in a gay romance never even have to have it come up.  :)

You know what'd be great? Adding gay romances, and then adding a toggle feature so you can turn it on or off. That way, all you people can be happy, and people like me who find it uncomfortable to get hit on by other guys can be happy! Yay!

Well, if they add is as a DLC (which they will have too), then they wouldn't need a toggle feature since people who do not want it won't have to deal with it.

Hey this is great!  Just like the gore toggle/sliders in a lot of games.  :-D  "do you want to see monsters get dismembered?" y/n?

^^  Seems completely reasonable to me, and its' something that we already know works!

I'm personally not against a toggle. (Would be nice to do that for straight AND gay [I'm supposed to be a intimidating female space marine who regularly beats the mess out of people. I should have a choke the mess out of a guy for leering at me option] and to have romance dialogue in green (or some other obvious color) so one doesn't "accidently" stumble into something they don't want).

So yes toggle across the board please.

Or give me that renegade action with a fist in the face.

A toggle switch could be considered more offensive to people than simply not including it at all.

It would be so easy to hide it the conversation tree a couple of tiers down, make sure none of the NPCs initiate flirting themselves, and let players click the big --CLICK HERE TO FLIRT-- if they want to start a same sex relationship. Obviously it should be in context, but clear to anyone that selecting that option would result in places they either do or dont want to go.

Personally, I'd have no problem with this. Seems like a reasonable solution that would appease both sides.

However, there will definitely be people complaining that, by adding a toggle, Bioware is insinuating that sexuality (specificly bi/homosexuality) is a choice tantamount to flipping a switch one way or the other. A rock and a hard place, indeed.<_<

Respectfully, why do you say that the NPC would be hitting on you? I think this is a bit disingenuous. In all of BW's previous games, the relationship options were initiated by the player character. It's the same as the PC selecting a renegade option and the result being Shep punches a woman in the face: it only happens if you initiate that path. The NPC never initiates a romance, and never hits on anyone uninvited, particularly in the ME universe where the NPCs don't even talk unless prompted.

This notion of  "getting hit on" by NPCs seems to me to be a coded way of saying you don't even want the option to be available; you don't even want to see a line of text on the screen that seems flirty and would lead down a path you don't want to take. Since you don't want to take that path, it shouldn't be available to anyone? How is that fair? Simply say you don't want gay romance in the game because you're a homophobe and even having to think about it, though it would have nothing to do with your playthrough, wigs you out.

I think that's pushing things a bit. NPCs do make some advances towards you; the asari consort for example. Granted, it's not very common, but it's also not completely outlandish either.
And also, please don't start calling those with disenting opinions "homophobes." Being uncomfortable being hit on by the same sex does not a homophobe make; you certainly shouldn't start jumping to such conclusions. Keep it respectful, yeah?

Actually, in Dragon Age: Origins, Zevran hits on you pretty openly. And Liara mentions liking you in Mass Effect. So some NPCs so hit on you; the NPCs in Mass Effect 2 however don't seem too (Kelly picks up on it though), aside from Jack though that's less of a "hitting on you" thing and more of a "I bet you are just like everyone" thing.

I think this notion of someone accidentally "stumbling" into a gay romance, or being forced into one because a NPC took their perfectly innocuous comment and used it as fodder to chase them around the engineering room, trying to boink their ass, to be ridiculous, particularly in ME.

In Jade Empire, the gay romance was so hard to initiate that you had to study how to successfully get the option to start. In DAO, the gay options were so easy to recognize, you'd have to be an idgit to stumble into anything. In ME, the romances are so shallow, and the initiation lines so obvious and clunky that there is no stumbling into anything.

Why would we need a toggle. The conversation system IS a toggle. The real issue is that some people don't even want to know that gay romance exists, and I think that defeats the purpose. An m/m option shouldn't have to be a closeted secret.

If they do anything like that, they should color the romance lines like they do with charm and intimidate. For all romances.
