Why would we need a toggle. The conversation system IS a toggle. The real issue is that some people don't even want to know that gay romance exists, and I think that defeats the purpose. An m/m option shouldn't have to be a closeted secret.

A very good point

They had this in Vampire Bloodlines and it worked just fine. And considering how buggy that game was otherwise this is certainly proof of concept. ^^;

The nice thing about this thread is that it keeps the gay community propaganda in one small place where it can easily be locked.

hmmm... if they go with DLC/Expansion and add a new char, wouldn't there be a dossier to read?
Couldn't they just mention something innocent and non-confrontational in that like "his husband died in a blahblahblah"
Then everyone knows. No toggle and no surprise dialogue...

None of the other dossiers had anything like that; having it would be kind of on the nose don't cha think?

There was no actual M/M in VB until you used mods though right?

Though you could still hit on other men leading to some hilarious results. XD

Though yeah nothing wrong with being uncomfortable: I'm uncomfortable with public PDA (doesn't matter who it is its all equally disgusting and revolting to me.) Like I really really don't want to hear/see you making out with your girlfriend/boyfriend okay? :sick: God I sometimes wanted to throw things at people. :pinched:

This is a good idea as well. There's no need for a big deal to be made. Make him/ her an assassin or mercenary (ala Zaeed) and, with recruitment, have the dossier do all the talking so there are no accidental "Zevran's Massage" incidents. ;)

That's a very good idea.  Being nice to a character shouldn't automatically initiate a romance.   I remember in DAO, Morrigan thought I was interested in her when I was just being friendly.  In ME1, you practically have to beat Liara with a stick to keep her off of your Shepard...oh and the Consort simply "rapes" your Shepard without asking!!

Actually, in Dragon Age: Origins, Zevran hits on you pretty openly. And Liara mentions liking you in Mass Effect. So some NPCs so hit on you; the NPCs in Mass Effect 2 however don't seem too (Kelly picks up on it though), aside from Jack though that's less of a "hitting on you" thing and more of a "I bet you are just like everyone" thing.

In DAO, the romance options are so obvious that they can easily be avoided. If you go back and play Zev with a male PC, you'll see that Zev does not hit on you out of the blue. His dialogue presents an option, if you are overly nice to him. He'll try to flirt with you if you're a girl PC, but you can easily shut him down.

In ME, Liara only goes the relationship route with you if you pick the dialogue options that prompt her to think you'll be receptive. It's very easy to avoid and even easier to shut down. If you're definition of "hitting on" is that a dialogue option presents itself, then I see what you mean. But the bottom line is that if the NPC says ANYTHING that the PC doesn't like, it is easy to shut the whole thing off and have it be like it never happened. There is little risk to a man's heterosexuality that would require that the whole notion should be removed from public contemplation. Male romances need not be treated like some big dirty secret.

That's true about Zev and male PC. (It is easy to shut him down. A little too easy actually). Leliana though...maybe it was because I was being overly friendly? She always falls in love with my female PCs. Multiple times. Even when I'm romancing Alistiar. (Heck let me be honest. I always romance Alistair.) It must be the shoes line. Bah. >_> Or the calling her attractive. Why can't you say someone is pretty without hitting on them BioWare? People do that in RL all the time you know. :crying:

Well technically she's not  a squadmate.  ^^  Also I'm not sure she isn't the reason for that worrysome std that Mordin talks about finding on the Normandy lol

Perhaps the current ones are (though, as has already been pointed out, this is not the case). But most of us are asking for Bioware to consider a new character for the option, not to alter an existing one.

I do agree with you, I was just pointing out that some NPCs (both squad and otherwise) do hit on you in some BioWare games. Still, it's nothing that most players cannot handle. And despite the rep they get, most shooter fans' heads will not explode in rage if a male NPC hits on them.

They could all be straight...they could all be gay...they could all be bi...we just don't know because sexuality isn't defined in their dossier. Fortunately, that presents options. After all, this is a role-playing game.

Either or it seems to me; I would want BioWare to expand the current characters in Mass Effect 2, but would not be against new characters.

Come on Dae you should know the only people who play shooter games are insecure pubsent boys that need to drool over every available female squad member and be vindicated by sleeping (or attempting to) with them. :whistle: Any strong female character that isn't dressed in skimpy clothing for them to drool over is dubbed a butch lesbian and bashed.

That's the shooter crowd. Alright. =]

LoL I just love Leliana's random comments to Morrigan too... ^^; poor Leliana will really easily get the wrong idea if you talk to her too much, I think she just can't help it lol. >_<  Especially if you talk to her about shoes. ^^;

Sadly playing online in shooter games does not help to dispel this stereotype Image IPB

I like shopters, but I generally mute everyone in the match because either their voices are annoying or what they have to say is annoying

Lelianna is an exception. If you talk to her about her background at all, she falls in love with you. Still, you can shut her down easily, once you know her cues. In fact, you have to say some rather dicey things to her to get the relationship to actually progress. Most people would be able to recognize the implied innuendo in some of Lelianna's romance queues.

However, the f/f romances are always more overt, because they are not subject to male het rage. F/F gets a pass, no need to make it difficult  or hide it; after all, it's there for the het male titilation factor, not to provide realism for lesbians or bisexuals. They would never make a m/m romance that would be too easy to get into or too hard to shut down immediately for fear of a het male stumbling into it and experiencing A Moment Threatening to His Manhood.

Tell that to the Tali fans in their 800+ page thread.....

I'm actually surprised how many of our trolls eventually end up supporting same-sex romances in ME.....  Plus, we often get new people dropping by to express support.  These discussions must go on....
