Come on Dae you should know the only people who play shooter games are insecure pubsent boys that need to drool over every available female squad member and be vindicated by sleeping (or attempting to) with them. Any strong female character that isn't dressed in skimpy clothing for them to drool over is dubbed a butch lesbian and bashed.

That's the shooter crowd. Alright. =]

I like shooters.

I like MULTIPLAYER shooters. I've never seen the appeal in single player shooters I mean I suck at them usually so its more fun to atleast get beaten by real people so I can laugh with them instead of screaming that the AI is cheating and throwing my controller at the screen. The only reason I played ME is because I was expecting a slash fix. Ah the things a fangirl puts up with.

Storyline ended up rocking my socks though. :wizard:

Lack of canon slash still soured it for me. :crying:

None of the other dossiers had anything like that; having it would be kind of on the nose don't cha think?

ach crap my brain is mushy right now. I keep forgetting the dossiers in the game are like 4 words long and are not in fact the description i read elsewhere...
What I meant was like the Cerberus network description of zaeed that was all "Shepards backers have hired feared mercinery  blahblahblah old score to settle etc.etc. gain zaeed's loyalty on yaddayadda"

ME2 is a runaway success. I think it has provided an extremely solid foundation for Bioware to let go of their inhibitions in ME3, with no risk (not that there was any risk, as proven with DA:O, but the argument is there). It's the third and final installment of the game, the fanbase is solid, and it's not going to go anywhere. Don't let us down and leave out this option.

This notion of  "getting hit on" by NPCs seems to me to be a coded way of saying you don't even want the option to be available; you don't even want to see a line of text on the screen that seems flirty and would lead down a path you don't want to take. Since you don't want to take that path, it shouldn't be available to anyone? How is that fair? Simply say you don't want gay romance in the game because you're a homophobe and even having to think about it, though it would have nothing to do with your playthrough, wigs you out.

I think that's pushing things a bit. NPCs do make some advances towards you; the asari consort for example. Granted, it's not very common, but it's also not completely outlandish either.
And also, please don't start calling those with disenting opinions "homophobes." Being uncomfortable being hit on by the same sex does not a homophobe make; you certainly shouldn't start jumping to such conclusions. Keep it respectful, yeah?

You're talking about a non-romanceable character, a female-ish one at that. She's a prostitute. She doesn't hit on you out of the blue. She only "hits" on you when YOU say the renegade response of "Is that all I get for my help" or some such. She doesn't just initiate a sexual liaison with an unwilling PC. You probably need to clarify for yourself what it means to "hit" on someone.

The definition of homophobe: someone with an irrational fear of homosexuality. It's a simple term applicable to anyone who feels they can not stand to be tainted by a line of flirty text applied to a person of the same gender to such an extent that they need to toggle it off. Don't attribute offense to me, or inflate the definition of the word and attribute your definition to me, or state that I'm not being respectful by calling a type of behavior by its definition. Thanks.

Agreed I don't think anyone is gonna stop playing the entire game series just because there's a gay option

Actually, in Dragon Age: Origins, Zevran hits on you pretty openly. And Liara mentions liking you in Mass Effect. So some NPCs so hit on you; the NPCs in Mass Effect 2 however don't seem too (Kelly picks up on it though), aside from Jack though that's less of a "hitting on you" thing and more of a "I bet you are just like everyone" thing.

In DAO, the romance options are so obvious that they can easily be avoided. If you go back and play Zev with a male PC, you'll see that Zev does not hit on you out of the blue. His dialogue presents an option, if you are overly nice to him. He'll try to flirt with you if you're a girl PC, but you can easily shut him down.

In ME, Liara only goes the relationship route with you if you pick the dialogue options that prompt her to think you'll be receptive. It's very easy to avoid and even easier to shut down. If you're definition of "hitting on" is that a dialogue option presents itself, then I see what you mean. But the bottom line is that if the NPC says ANYTHING that the PC doesn't like, it is easy to shut the whole thing off and have it be like it never happened. There is little risk to a man's heterosexuality that would require that the whole notion should be removed from public contemplation. Male romances need not be treated like some big dirty secret.

That's true about Zev and male PC. (It is easy to shut him down. A little too easy actually). Leliana though...maybe it was because I was being overly friendly? She always falls in love with my female PCs. Multiple times. Even when I'm romancing Alistiar. (Heck let me be honest. I always romance Alistair.) It must be the shoes line. Bah. >_> Or the calling her attractive. Why can't you say someone is pretty without hitting on them BioWare? People do that in RL all the time you know. :crying:

Lelianna is an exception. If you talk to her about her background at all, she falls in love with you. Still, you can shut her down easily, once you know her cues. In fact, you have to say some rather dicey things to her to get the relationship to actually progress. Most people would be able to recognize the implied innuendo in some of Lelianna's romance queues.

However, the f/f romances are always more overt, because they are not subject to male het rage. F/F gets a pass, no need to make it difficult  or hide it; after all, it's there for the het male titilation factor, not to provide realism for lesbians or bisexuals. They would never make a m/m romance that would be too easy to get into or too hard to shut down immediately for fear of a het male stumbling into it and experiencing A Moment Threatening to His Manhood.

Hehehe. That's true. I just kept getting Leliana's its me or him dialogue and ended up going. "Wtf? There was an us?" After that she is easy to shut down.

I'm kind of good at spotting innuendo. Most of the time at least. :bandit:

Like I said in a previous post. You guys seek to justify your perverse behavior and force it upon everyone else.

True enough, but there is only room for 1 more DLC squad member, and chances are she's been done for a while and is awaiting release. I don't invest any hope that Kasumi has more conversation than Zaeed, much less a full romance option.

Of course, it's easier for me to hope for the option in ME3 because I don't think ME3 is going to take very long at all to develop.

I hope they give Mass Effect 3 time to develop; it's the end to their biggest gaming project ever. Time and care needs to be had.

Of course they should take their time to ensure it's a good game, but look how much less work they have to do. ME2 took 2 years to develop, and they had to build the whole thing almost from the ground up. Everything is new; updates graphics, new gameplay system, etc. ME3 will be built on that foundation that they already have; half the work is already done. It's probably not unreasonable to think they could build it in half the time since they have to do half the work.

I hope that they devote all the energy that they put into the gameplay in ME2, to the characters and story in ME3. A powerful and beautiful same-sex romance to round out the story in the final chapter would be an incredible thing.

Whoa, calm down. There's really no need to be so defensive; I certainly meant no offense. I'm just trying to prevent flame wars, as throwing around the word "homophobe" when someone mentions their discomoft of the idea is often cited as a reason for the closure of the threads.

In my opinion, and from my perception of your comments, you are drawing a LOT of conclusions about someone based on very little info. What about his comment leads you to believe he actually literally fears homosexuals? That he would feel tainted by their inclusion into the game? A toggle has been suggested many times before, with support from those supporting same-sex inclusion, and no one suggested or expressed their belief that this was a homophobic idea.
Feeling uncomfortable when being hit on, whether its from a person of your own gender or opposite, is not tantamount to fear, hatred or disgust of those individuals. It's simply discomfort and, at least from my perspective, is perfectly understandable and not enough to warrant being called a homophobe.

What I was suggesting was that you not jump to conclusions just because they may be uncomfortable with this idea.

Lelianna's romance was very bugged. LOL I had the same thing happen to me with her, on a couple of occasions, AFTER I told her to back off. Her romance was the only one that could re-start after you shut it down. There's nothing like getting two instances of a shrill "YOU LOVE ALISTAIR!" in one game... ;)
