how do you start leliana's personal quest.

i think you have to have her approval rating around 40-60 not sure how high it was wwhen i got it.

Talk to her in camp, ask her about her time in the Chantry.
Get her approval rating above 25.
Talk to her in camp about minstrels.
Leave the camp and then come back, she should talk to you about lying before.
Engage in a random encounter against some mercs.

That's about as far as I've gotten.

Once you get her approval rating high enough, she will initiate a conversation with you when you enter camp and she'll explain her history.
After that you will encounter a band of mercenaries while traveling, beat them and ge the information from their leader. You will then have to head to Denerim to take care of some business

I have a problem with that particular quest the second time around.

First time I was playing a male character and got the personal quest right away.



This time I'm playing a female character and for the life of me cannot get her personal quest:

1. I managed to get her to talk about the time in the chantry.

2. I gave her a lot of gifts as I was city-shopping around for gifts for all companions.

3. She gave me the talk about the stars

4. She talked about how she likes my char and embarassment etc.

5. I have her influence at 92 now and on adore (i.e. romance working)



Problem is there is no dialogue option either in camp or on the road regarding bards or minstrels.

Am I too far advanced into the romance proper or is my influence too high to talk to her about these?

Anything in particular I may have missed this time?

Wow, I have almost the exact same troubles as GhostNWN above. 1st time through got her quest no problem, 2nd time through playing a female and influence is 100 and she refuses to talk about being a bard and thus starting that quest and I've exhausted all my dialog options with her

This is my second play through and once again I seemed to have missed Leliana's personal quest. This is extremely annoying that you can miss a dialogue and have it gone as an option forever. This is way early in the game and all I'm getting as an option is "nothing, never mind."

Same problem here. I'm out of conversation options with her and never got her personal quest. Approval is at 82.

Are you talking to her when she's in your party or when you go to camp?

Leliana has to be in your party to encounter the assassins while travelling after revealing her true reasons for leaving Orlais.

I had this problem romancing her on my Male Noble Human. It's literally cause you're to far into the Romance I guess >.< I dumped her and went to Zev after awhile, and when I talked to her again, voila, all the options were now there and I already ended it *le sigh*

I want to share that I never got the option to ask her about what bards really do. Whether it was because her approval of me shot up too fast, I cannot be certain.

But despite not triggering that conversation, I just put Leliana in my party, moved around Ferelden, and I triggered the combat where soldiers were sent by Marjolaine to kill Leliana.

After confronting Marjolaine in Denerim, and talking to Leliana about it in camp, THEN the conversation about bards came up, along with my romance with Morrigan, me seeing Andraste's Ashes, etc. I feel like the dialogue sequences can be very messed up.

But my point is that I can still trigger Leliana's quest WITHOUT talking to her about bards.

My own personal theory is that Leliana is not part of my main party. So because I don't hang out with her as much, the conversation topics won't show up.

I also had problems getting the quest. It ended up being that I just had to actually have Leliana in my party when I traveled across the world map.

Used Leliana in my first play through so didn't remember that the world event was the quest trigger.

I've been trying to start her personal quest myself, and have not succeeded. I've spoken with her about her visions, and also about spies in Orlais, and her approval is now at 100. Never gotten the travel encounter that starts it.

It has been stated that there is only one shot to get her dialog to start her personal quest and if you miss it or pick a different option you will need to "break up" with her and then restart the romance. However that might be what is needed in order to sleep with her I get confused sometimes but it is worth a shot.

You don't need to be anything like 100. Just ask her about minstrels sometimes being spies as soon as that option is available, she will reveal too much knowledge and you will 'discover' that she is a bard (a spy). This will cause a random encounter when you are out and about, as long as she is in your party. Depending on how many encounters are 'cued up', you may have to go through a couple, but that's it.

The encounter (an assassination attempt) will lead on to the rest of her quest.

Edit: I think she does have to 'like' you ('warm' maybe?), but that's all.

This bug is supposedly fixed in patch 1.02 but doesn't seem to be for me, I assumed it would be okay as stated in the readme which says "Leliana's personal plot can now be completed if the player substantially increased her approval (through gifts) before talking to her" but now she adores me and her conversation tree doesn't offer the "spies" discussion -- exactly the same frustrating behaviour as pre-patch as far as I can tell. So my advice is still to be careful about getting her approval too high, too early.

Quick update: I managed to unlock this using the console and running "runscript zz_app_debug" several times. First I set her approval to zero and her romance to "pre_love_eligible", then alternately talked to her and increased her approval (using the script) until I'd had the bard discussion. I increased her approval some more, and the very next time I returned to camp, she talked to me about her past.

I found out about the zz_app_debug script at http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Console. If anyone else tries this, save first and use at your own risk of course!

All of the above plus

random encounter with mercs will happen if you have all the above AND you head to denerim WITH lei in your party.

also, make sure you're on the romance influence tree if you're planning to continue the romance, because you can get stuck on the friend-only tree pretty easily. once you're above a certain rating with her in friendship only, you can't turn on the romance thread. (found this out the hard way)
