The armored darkspawn is obviously evil, since he throws down a guard of presumably your keep and is about to order another hurlock to cut the throat of the grey haired guy...

Meh, I've killed a few guards and slit a few throats myself (sorry, Zevran). Who am I to judge? He's obviously a guy who knows how to get things done.

I had a feeling he was the Architect. Skeletor didn't fit with my interpretation of the Architect from the book.

He's somewhat attractive; there's a gentle, sophisticated look to him with those refined (if slightly asymmetrical) features.

BTW, near the start of the Awakening trailer where the camera drifts up towards the Architect, there's what looks to be a dwarf woman with short red hair. Utha had copper-coloured hair.... I wonder how she and the Architect have managed to look more human.

Wasn't the architect supposed to be a darkspawn?
Oh well, hopefully the armored talking darkspawn is recruitable somehow.

Why? He's a dorkspawn. All he needs is a sword in his gut.

Because he ought to be interesting and might satsify my, purely intellectual, curiosity.

Guys I am pretty sure the dude on the first post is the architect and not the skeletor looking guy because from the Dragon age books the Architect was like a mage because it said he used magic this is just what i got from looking it up on the wiki and for why he sounds kind of peaceful is because he is not a straight up lets kill all living thing kind of bad guy more of the sick Whatever it takes for "peace" kind of guy it even says he wants to bring peace between the Darkspawn and all other races

But on topic lol I think the guy on the first page is the Architect

Which wiki are you using? This one shows an image of the Architect.

That is very very strange... when I went to the wiki yesterday I got this: http://dragonage.wik...i/The_Architect

It is the exactley same link with same text, everything only the image is different...

P.S: Now my link to leads to the same image, but I could swear that the Lich was in the picture. I will try deleting my internect cache and try again.

If speaking strangely kept a character from being a companion, we'd all have gone through Origins without a rogue.

@svenus - It has been editted since yesterday, probably as a result of this discussion.

I was just wondering if we were talking about the same darkspawn (Skeletor). He could have been referring to someone else (though I don't know who...).

Well Skeletor could be Bregan if he's still running around. He used to be Commander of the GW's in Orlais, so would be an interesting opponent for the Orlesian Warden.

Bregan died in The Calling. Remmember? poked down by a bunch of soldiers in the circle tower.

Not wierd at all. There was a different image on the wikia yesterday. Since then the person who put it there found out that she had been mistaken in posting personal speculation as fact.
It happens.

How is that strange? A community wiki is rather useless if no one edits it.

"The architect reappear as an antagonist"

so i assume there will be other antagonist in awakening?.. if the op pic is really the architect then anyone have any idea who is the talking bad ass hurlock in the trailer?

That's the Artitecht. It has to be. Unless the Hurlock architect we knew from The Calling had a transformation over the past few decades, I highly doubt it's changed much. I won't believe otherwise until some official statement comes out, and if it does, I hope there's a darn good reason for the change in the creature. Because when I read the book, I clearly imagined the Architect as a Hurlock, or something close to it. This pretty boy bad guy looks nothing like the description from within the book.

Or perhaps I'm wrong... I'm off to reread the description of the Architect again to see what it says. It's not far into the book if I recall correctly... Lol. I might prove myself an idiot.

Yes, but what also happened is that I had both of the links opened in same time and they were different, the chainmail guy is supossed to be the Architect, but since I posted after the first link was posted,  I found the second link after, which had the Lich in it. So did I really just hit the second it was changed, or...

Maybe "the Architect" isn't one single person. It could very well be a small group composed of the few uber-intelligent darkspawn. Perhaps Ser Lich-a-lot merely leads the group.

Does 'The Architect' exist at all, or is it a metaphor to 'build' your own personal state of perfection in the world?

Actually, here's the exact description from "The Calling" on page 41, paragraph three in the second chapter.

"It took only a few moments of rubbing for Bregan's vision to finally begin to clear. What he saw in the light of the creature's glowstone did nothing to assuage his confusion. It was an emissary, a darkspawn who might have been mistaken for a human were it not for its corrupted flesh and wide, fishlike eyes. It had no hair, and its lips were peeled back from its sharp fangs to reveal a permanent, hideous grin. Instead of the usual assortment of decayed leathers and pieces of armor that the darkspawn wore, however, this one had a simple, soot-covered brown robe. It carried a gnarled black staff in one hand and the glowstone in the other."

It appears to me that skeletor has to be the Architect. Unless this guy has fish eyes underneath that mask and a wide, toothy grin he stitched up with a nice needle and some string!

Reason for Edit: Spelling errors.

Coming from another female, there is something erotic about him...or it. I think it is the lips and smooth facial features that are still mostly humanoid.

I am a female too. And when i saw him as being the Arhitect i said to myself that this is the most coolest boss ever. I don't find him SEXY (he's not brad pitt) but he is made in a way not to make you run from him, but to rather like him.

lol nice thread edit. xD though half the posts debating who he is look a bit nonsensical now.

so
it is confirmed, this guy is a darkspawn emissary... is there a chance
for the Architect to be one of the old Magisters, or do the books rule
out this possibility?

I am not completly though the book yet, but from what I can tell, the exact nature of the Architect remains a mystery.

I
don't think he is...unless he lost his memory. He doesn't know anything
about humans, he even asks what a "day" is. Tho he can read, which is
unusual for a darkspawn...

Hmm, something still seems a little off if this lich guy is supposed to be the Architect. We'll see when the expansion is released, though. I'm beginning to think he is, but maybe something happened between now and then that altered his appearance. He most certainly doesn't have that toothy grin and fish-like eyes. Heck, we can't even see his eyes.

Edit: Spelling Errors.

I'll point out that in the original Mass Effect book, the Volus didn't wear containment suits, but just looked like large walrus people.

Something may have changed the Architect over time, or the one of the concept artist might have come up with a neat design and they felt it was more impressive than a 'hurlock in robes.'

Interesting, but not my cup of tea. Either the Architect or Giger.
