Maybe you're right, though, like I said, I love Samus Aran from Metroid Prime. And Lara Croft from Tomb Raider is simply a classic female-protagonist icon in video-game world. Gotta love her!

I still think BioWare wrote Mass Effect with a male protagonist in the back of their heads and add a female option later on and I think that is the reason why I dislike femshep.

I have to admit, I haven't played ME2 with my femshep character just yet, only ME1. I think I'm gonna give my femshep a try after I've beaten ME2 on Insanity with my maleshep vanguard.

The first time I played Mass Effect, it was with the default male Shepard. The voiceovers were adequate. In my next playthrough, I played a custom female Shepard and found the performance to be much better than the male Shepard VA.

Female Shepard just has more emotion and in appropriate situations. For example, in ME2, when Shepard meets Joker again in the Cerberus base, male Shepard has absolutely no emotion in this scene, he doesn't sound at all like he's relieved that he's back with his former pilot. He has his commander voice when he should be speaking as if he's talking to a friend, which is he. Female Shepard nails the entire scene properly, you're able to hear the curiosity in her voice when she asks how he got there as well as the suspicion when she asks him if he trusts Cerberus/TIM.

While some in the thread are saying that some of Shepard's lines seem better for a male Shepard, I disagree, I think Shepard's lines fit for the female Shepard. For example, when you're interrogating Kelham and you choose to continue punching him, Shepard eventually says something that involved cutting his balls which was a line that seemed like it was made for female Shepard.

If you're into having Shepard sound a like a commander regardless of the situation, then that's your preference. To me, it seems like female Shepard hits the proper notes for every situation. Add to this, male Shepard is really only good for the default Shepard, no matter how anyone attempts to spin it, male Shepard's voice doesn't work at all for most custom characters. Female Shepard's eventually adapts with most custom Shepards, even character of a dark skin tone.
