ran a femShep and stuck with romancing Liara, even though there's no benefit to it.

My maleShep was in a romance with Ashley. But he's a renegade and she ticked him off when she decided to run away to the Alliance, rather than be with him, so he's looking for a new interest.

Already been with Jack, and that was... interesting. The renegade approach doesn't get you far. (and by the way, is it because of her special training that she can have sex and never take her pants off?)

Miranda has expressed interest, but I like Tali a lot better. Kelly just seems lame. 

Miranda has already had the "I need time to think about it but i'm interested" talk. 
If I dump on her, can I pick up any of the other romances? Is it worth it? (I like Tali, but ... the girl has hooves -- check it out sometime). Besides, she in a suit... what can you really do?
Can you romance two at once and see a showdown like ME1? can I jump from one to the other?

Since I got in a semi-romance with Miranda, Kelly has stopped flirting with me, which is weird. Its not like I an "i'm with Miranda" t-shirt on. 

Certainly not the most important thing in the game, to me, but .. hey... as long as I'm there....

so, any answers?

Kelly isn't a romance, she's a consolation prize.
You only "get" her if you don't have any other active romances, and it's not considered a proper LI.
You can still romance a second LI once you've reached the pre-hump stage, but it'll hit a roadblock when the new LI tells you that they want an exclusive relationship. If you want to continue LI #2 you have to dump LI #1 first.
