Does anyone actually use traps?

It really helps to have level 2 Stealth.

Just watch out for friendly fire on some of these.

That'll teach 'em for swooping. Swooping is bad.

You really do not want to be around these when they trigger cos of nasty AoE, so put party on hold well down range, set them at choke-points and along narrow corridors, de-stealth in front of a mob, get them all aggro on you, then run like hell past the traps and watch the fun....

Traps are pretty useless to me. The damage and debuffs just don't justify the cost of materials or the waste of skill slots, and the effects usually don't last long enough to create an exploitable weakness. And that's not even taking into consideration that the player is always on the offensive or in a defensive situation that doesn't allow the setting of traps beforehand.

Even with maxed Stealth, you can only get so close to the enemy to plant traps and if they're high enough level, they'll eventually spot you. I've had a few instances where I was laying traps and they spotted me and mobbed me. Kinda wasted the last 2 minutes setting up the ambush only to have it cave in on me. Minor burn!
There's also the inventory space required to store all of those traps and trap-making materials. You also have to buy the plans to build these things. Of minor consideration are the traps taking up slots on my quick-bar which I'd rather reserve for my abilities.
Given the choice of buying traps/trap materials vs a tome or better armor, I think I'll opt for the latter option. To disarm traps, you need lockpicking skill. Despite the Trap-making skill giving an increased sensing range, I can't see any reason to invest in it. Unless you like making things go BOOM!!

I've never had any enemy in the game detect my high level rogues(Normal, Hard), regardless of it's difficulty unless I attacked first, or stepped on a trap. They'll sometimes follow you around in stealth but never actually attack you.
Traps are great for normal difficulty, anything above that though and the duration effects don't really last long enough to be effective.

I found the process too time-consuming and the pay-off negligible. I could do as much damage with a DW Sweep or Whirlwind and have a better chance of hitting my targets. Traps are hit-and-miss and you usually only catch 2 or 3 of them. I've played the trapper - not for me.

I haven't been a rogue (just 2 times but I quit during Lothering) but traps seem useless. Any tips on how to use them and when to use them? Thanks:ph34r:
I only made them to get the achievement, and I only used them because I thought I needed to to get said achievement, which I didn't realize I already had.
In other words, No.

I layer traps to get more damage out of them. A simple spring or grease trap to make the enemy fall down, or claw traps to hold them still, on top of fire or acid or shrapnel traps to damage them. While they're all clumped up, have a mage toss a Fireball at them. Good times!
I'd only use traps as a rogue or during a solo game, though. Rogues have the leeway in their skill picks to throw a couple points on Trap-making (and they get Stealth, which is also helpful), and during a solo game every little edge is useful.

High CUN rogues shouldn't have a problem being detected in Stealth. They also won't need to put more than 2 skill points into Coercion, and so will have extra to put in Trap-making.
Why won't they need to put more than 2 into Coercion? I've actually been wondering how it works.
