And I finally arrived at the most hackneyed of plot devices: love interest gets kidnapped by the Reapers/the enemy/whatever and put through a terrible ordeal.
It is certainly cliche, but I trust that BioWare can implement such a plot device successfully.
I mean, watching a love interest being mistreated/abused could build a far greater emotional connect between that character and the player... Not to mention, it would also make a great rescue mission.

But, seriously, while it may be a good plot device, a lot of people would probably be mad that their LI isn't with them in their group. I know I personally, might be a bit upset about it, haha.

No!!! Don't mention such words! Now Bioware may make Tali get kidnapped and harmed...

Well, you can always rescue them and boom! They are back in your squad.

They would just give her back. Way too aggresive.Beeno4Life wrote...
I would rather not have Ash be kidnapped, thank you. If that's even possible. I'd like to see someone try to kidnap Ashley. >

-One hour later-
Harbinger: "Shepard, please take this B*** back, she's annoying and not at all attractive.
Shepard: "Dude, you took her, no takebacks. Sorry.
Harbinger: "Aw man..."

Not unless they sedate her completely.

I actually think that BioWare could handle this well. It could be similar to the crew capture in that if you don't rescue them quick enough something horrible happens. Then the player would have no one to blame but themselves.

Heck, two collector bugs couldn't keep her down. I'd like to see them panicking as their sedatives wear off and she unleashes a big ol' can o' whoop-ass. With Shep's help, of course. It could be a back to back bare-knuckled fight to the enemies death.XX55XX wrote...

Yes, Tali gets captured and turned into a husk. Hilarity ensues.

That would be funny, as much as I love Tali.
Perhaps we should also have a case in which Shepard has to choose his LI from ME1 or his LI in ME2?

I wouldn't really mind something happening to your LI for drama's sake as long as;
- It doesn't span half (or more) of the game.
- It doesn't involve death (yours or theirs) or permanent disfigurement (yours or theirs).
If either of those happened, I would be very put out.

It would be cool to have (random squadmate) be captured, and have (random squadmate=LI) if a character is romanced. That way it works for players with no LI. (Though it would be quite a bit less dramatic.)
Anything that treats the LI as a little more special then just another squadmate is probably a good idea, IMO.

I was thinking during the course of most of this evening on how to spice up the romances in ME3.
And I finally arrived at the most hackneyed of plot devices: love interest gets kidnapped by the Reapers/the enemy/whatever and put through a terrible ordeal.

it was hinted that this would be the case with Ash/Kaidan in ME2. there was the launch trailer that showed them getting overrun by the seeker swarm. I thought for sure I would be forced to gallantly ride to Ashley's rescue....
of course, I forgot that Ashley generally isnt in need of rescuing, with one notable exception.
boy, did that encounter turn out differently than I'd hoped.....
in other words, I doubt Bioware is going to pull that. but then, they've also surprised me before. in essence, I don't have a clue what they plan to do haha
