....Yeah, cus thats something you really wanna watch...

Anywho, I'm afraid I'm against this idea. Its abit cliched as the OP admitted, but also, its a pet hate of mine. Especially when the Love Interested are all heavily armed.

For males:
---------------
Tali: "I have a shotgun"
Miranda with her biotics.
Same with Jack.
Ashley is a soldier.

For females:
-----------------
Garrus kicks ass.
Jacob has the worlds biggest upper body muscles, biotics, and a shotgun.
Thane only needs his hands.
Kaidan has his biotics and guns (and is dead in my game )

For both:
------------
Liara has gone to the near-dark side and can handle firearms - and will flay you... WITH HER MIND!
Kelly....well, yeah, ok, she's already been kidnapped once and is a tad useless in a firefight.

Basically, having the love interest being kidnapped a) says they are abit useless (princess needs rescuing), and B) unnecessarily tries to stir unpleasant feelings in people who like their LI's and does nothing for those who don't.

I don't like it, I want to have time to develop the relationship. Won't really get that if they're locked in tower and guarded by a fire breathing dragon.

Wait, wrong universe...

Locked in a collector pod and guarded by a dreadnought?

Bioware killed your LI in BG2 ya know...of course, you could bring them back to life if you played it right.

Its not a bad idea. Your LI gets kidnapped by reapers and used as a CPU for a new one. This could be how 'maintaining an ME1 romance' has significant impact on ME3. Perhaps at the end you need to have intercourse with the reaper to save the galaxy. I'm sure the Tali fans will appreciate not having to wait ages for all the antibiotics and other medication to kick in.

Wouldn't surprise me. In both Dragon Ages and ME they avoid including love interests in sequels or expansions. The whole game removing your love interest by making you rescue them would fit it. They would technically be in the game, but they wouldn't have to include the love interest and write a story for how you interact once the 1st big bang scene is over with.

Once the romance ends, its just boring couples life.

Tali: Sheepard, pick up your socks and underwear

Shepard: *shrugs*

Tali: NO pick up your dirty socks, its killing me

Shepard: Geesh ok, when are you going to stop playing this low immune system card?

Tali: *cough cough*

hahhahahaha

If this happened Shepard would have some rough Paragon/renegade choices....Renegades unite.

But dude, people are obsessed with their LIs. This sort of mission/dilemna would fit the bill quite well.

Don't want the LI kidnapped...we were promised that we could build the relationship...if the LI is out of the picture how can we do that?

Honestly? To me, idea of having a LI tortured/raped/killed whilst Shepard is waiting for the mission to go rescue'm isn't my idea of a fun game. But I know my views on these sorts of plot twists are a minority as odd as it may sound,  so...

Well, whatever BioWare decide to do, they decide to do. For all we know, the Reapers may transform into plushies and the threat may just vanish

I read this title and all I could think was "I'm sorry, but the Princess is in another castle."

I think it's a stupid idea and everything would turn into a soap opera. Sooner or latter human female LI will come to you, and Liara to tell you that they are pregnant. Or Kaidan and Ashe are your long lost relatives. Harbinger is your father. Tali once we can see her face is a geth with two eyes. Legion your walking microwave. And they don't seem to get out much, they're too busy calibrating, cleaning the engine room or filling reports.

That would be the most idiotic strategy the reapers could come up with when they can simply try and capture you. Then have the team go after you. They managed to kill Shepard once what's to stop them from succeeding in kidnapping him/her and make all kind of sick tests. But this will be just a recycling since it was done in KotOR and II and even in DA:O.

I'm all for the love interest simply being KILLED.

Makes for a good plot device and very interested in how the writers work around and with it.

If my love-interest was incompetent enough to be kidnapped, they deserve to stay kidnapped.

Though I'd probably mount a rescue mission for Mordin.

No, its a crap idea and a convenient way of keeping them out of most of the game.

Yes, that's all Bioware needs is another excuse to do this.

I think the kidnapping idea is lame anyway.  It's such a tired plot device.

Somehow I don't Liara would need rescuing...Every Reaper/Husk in 10000 miles will fit in a coffee cup.

I'd be ok with this IF it was in the start of the game and you could rescue them like... fast. Personally I'd rather see the LI go and rescue Shepard or something (not neccesarily that silly sounding)

Besides, Thane and Garrus are too awesome to be kidnapped. *nods*

Now there's an idea!  Your love interest rescuing YOU.

I would love to see Ash kick down a door and blast some fools to save your butt.  :o

I was thinking during the course of most of this evening on how to spice up the romances in ME3.

And I finally arrived at the most hackneyed of plot devices: love interest gets kidnapped by the Reapers/the enemy/whatever and put through a terrible ordeal.

It is certainly cliche, but I trust that BioWare can implement such a plot device successfully.

I mean, watching a love interest being mistreated/abused could build a far greater emotional connect between that character and the player... Not to mention, it would also make a great rescue mission.

Except that if we stayed loyal to our ME1 LI, that would mean we'd again have minimal actual interaction with them. On top of that, if you liked Liara you can already see her be mistreated in the comic books.

Space Hamster?

If it did happen it would finally be a mission which Shepard could tell the rest of her crew to stuff it at last, we're off to rescue someone important to her. As long as it ended well. No Kaidan dying...

This is too cheesy. Reminds me of the hero following the bad guy who kidnaps his LI and ties her on the rails for the train to hit her while the bad guy laughs MUHA HA HA!!! Seriously, there are better things BW can come up with than the usual kidnapping and it doesn't fit Shepard either.

Shepard leaves one of his crew with a nuke on Virmire. Defeats Saren and Sovereign perhaps at the cost of human lives if you play paragon. Comes back from the dead. Works with Cerberus. Maybe gets some squadies killed in the Suicide Mission and at the end...just toss everything out of the window to save the LI...I don't see Shepard that way, that's a major weakness and I believe it's out of character. Shepard will make all kind of sacrifices for the greater good and I see him/her sacrificing his/her LI. That if it doesn't interfere with your main mission. But it's still a dumb idea.

Definitely. The best thing you can do is make a game personal somehow and kidnapping / killing a love interest would be a great way to do this.

Maybe the Reapers 'repurpose' them; maybe The Illusive Man uses them to exact some kind of revenge or to use as leverage to get his hands on Reaper tech.

Either way, if the whole love interest arc over the three games is meant to lead to something nasty, I'll be happy! It'll definitely make me turn up the volume for the last mission, whatever it is, as I get pumped up to KICK SOME ASS!!!!!
