"Let's travel together"
I remember saying this to Leliana on my first playthrough with her.

"I will search for Morrigan"
I remember saying this to Alistair on my first playthrough whilst I romanced her when she belonged to my party.

Changes in DA: A
______________

This is a really big pissoff.
Romances - GONE
Allies - GONE
God, this is lame.
I played through this game basically (my first playthrough was for the storyline, after you know what's going on, it all sucks anyway to play through again), but I played through more than once just to have more "particular" romances with certain people. Gone bi with Zevran, experienced it with Leliana, done it with Morrigan, had Alistair, and now your telling me one of my favorite aspects of DA: O will NOT BE IN THE EXPANSION!?
Boy what a joke.
I honestly dont care about the allies part, and I do not give a rats you-know-what about the DLC gear, but Bioware, COME ON!
What's Dragon Age without the funny conversations between Morrigan and Leliana? What's Dragon Age without the constant affection between you and your beautiful female companions!?
Honestly Bioware, this is low key and a complete turn-off for the new game.
I'll still be buying it, so what do you care, you're still making money, but I've come to trust in your abilities.

I disapprove -50 for this expansion.

I mean seriously... You ruined the first game by making a closed ending, you've made a good game, but with the closed ending it just is annoying, the lack of freedoms and the constant " GO KILL THE BLIGHT NOW SO YOUR GAME IS OVER  AND YOU CAN WASTE ANOTHER 23 HOURS ON A GAME THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE 75-80 HOURS!"

I've never felt you guys lacked the creativity to fully implement a system with a feeling of openness and fun and immersive, DA: O was great (up until the ending, which, might I add, was an amazing cinematic, but still annoying to find out I can't visit places AFTER the blight, you know, where I'm a hero and I am praised... Yeah, that's right... Anyway...)
In DA: A I am having my first lack of confidence in Bioware's ability to keep a consistant immersive game with many options and freedoms and choices that deeply impact your relations with the environment.
The removal of relationships, which, without question, were one of the funner things to work on in DA:O, is more trouble than it's worth.  It's upsetting to know that not only are relationships gone, but Morrigan is gone, Leliana is more than likely gone from your statements, Alistair is back and he's the most charming man in DA:O, and you can't romance him as a female PC!!! That's just ridiculous.

Oh, and for those of you Shems that read this, thanks, and good on you for actually giving a crap about anothers opinion, I just hope Bioware will do the same.Posted Image

You may yet get to do these things in some unknown DLC/expansion/sequel that we don't know about yet...

Fair enough. But to know that I cannot persure a Romance at the beginning is just ridiculous.

The hell does Bioware want me to do?

After sleeping with both Leliana and Morrigan in one playthough, then being asked by Zevran in another and Alistair in another, am I all of a sudden supposed to be abstinant? Just stupid.

Oh look, another one.

Consider the length of the expansion for a moment: Nobody knows.

Think about the time allotted since the first game, and how that might have possibly factored in to your character's decision in not having the desire to go chase up some Pooty Tang. You just scored with some psycho-**** looking to craft a son worthy of being called a god not too long ago. Are you really wanting more?

Examine the new characters and their characteristics and predicaments. We have no idea what they're truly like, and how their presence will end up influencing the choices made by your Warden. As absurd as it might seem, there are times when booty call just doesn't seem appropriate.

And then, I'd encourage you to remember the number one rule in the development of anything! While stuffing romances in an expansion of questionable length with limited resources might seem fitting to you, I doubt it's the case for the people actually taking the time to make the thing.

Yes, we do....

There's eleventy billion games where you go and kill lots of things with swords.

There's about 4 where you get to kiss your archer before you go of and kill lots of things with swords.

I hear ya. I was never one to care about romances in games, but I definitely was looking forward to traveling with Leliana, perhaps going to Orlais with her or whatever.

That said, I'm not too mad, mostly because I don't know the story. I expect at least some dialogue from someone, telling me where she has gone. I don't expect to just go through the game with no mention of her at all. They have to have it written in the story somehow.

We'll see...

Damn, I must miss a lot of games. I see maybe 2 or 3 decent single-player RPGs a year, at best.

But nevermind me. Carry on with your romance rants. It's just not my cup of tea.
I'll go complain about losing Duncan's Sword.

Not every BioWare game and expansion is going to give you new romances. You're in a relationship with whomever you had at the end of Origins (and since Morrigan dumped you...), but you don't get them as companions.

The hell does Bioware want me to do?

The Maker gave your PC a good right hand. They need to learn to use it.

I'm positive that you're referring to his character's passionate love of arts and crafts. Posted Image

The romances are cute in the game, but if you're more into the romance aspect then anything else then dating sims might prove to be better.

But you can't make a weird anti-social half naked whitch fall in love with you in dating sims now can you?

I pretty much agree with you there.  They were tolerable in DAO just because the game is so massive it didn't take anything away from the actual game. , Devoting development time and resources to it in Awakenings which is at least reputably on the short side, even as far as expansions go, would have been a waste, at least as far as my video game taste goes.

i still haven't heard anything about those people who want romance back what they want exactly with their romance besides "i want leliana by my side"... well having your partner by your side won't happen. Except when you have Ohgren as a your lover. Though your romance might be mentioned and acknowledged it won't be continued. Besides what more romancing do you want besides the normal, i love you, kiss, give gifts and have sex part. Go to the cinema? raise kids?

Technically she just left but never officially broke off the relationship and I have the ring and the approval rating to prove it! ;)

I don't really mind the fact that there will be no relationships in Awakening, I've mentioned it before that it could actually be a good sign that our old romances will move forward in a sequal / expansion because it means there will be no new romance options they have to cater for in future games.
I played the game for the story and in the origins story the romances where very important to me, but I can play through a chapter or two without them as long as the relationships are still there and are acknowledged. I'm sure though that my character will think about Morrigan a lot during Awakening and Bioware had to be mean and put in some enemy called "The Children" just to remind and pester my poor character.

However I understand that a lot of people find it an integral part of the game and therefore will miss it a lot, I just think there's also a silver lining to it. :)

If I have to choose beetwen

a) To see my old romance (which lasted about 60 hours of gameplay) broken, just to have a new romance that lasts about 10-15 hours of gameplay
or
B) To know that my old romance still exist, to know that my beloved stays at home waiting for me, and play 10-15 hours without him/her in party just for an adventure
I believe that I will ALWAYS choose the B) option, don't you?

The real problem is to know if they will be really able to carry them on in a future sequel.. Because the same problem they may find to do that in this xpac, will be the same they will find when they will go to build up a sequel. I will not really be surprised if we will know DA2 will be a full new story, after many years, in other places and with new characters, and that Dragon Age Origins Campaign is already an ended story...

I hope they won't and to be honest I don't really think they can do this especially to Morrigan fans who are left with a huge cliffhanger... I'm not saying they HAVE to continue this cliffhanger in the sequel, but I'm just stating they have to continue it at some point if not in a sequel then in an expansion.

Sorry, but really you have following choices:

a) You can IMAGINE that your old romance waits for you at home, cause you can be lucky if he/she appears at all (Lel doesn´t) and  mentions your relationship a single sentence.
I won´t pay Bioware for writing fanfic myself.

B) Have 15 hours of fun, cause your old romance (besides of Morrigan and her child) won´t probably appear ever again and if they do, they will be cutted to a gimmick like in ME2 to not scare new customers off.

Have there been any official word about this no romances crap, or are you people only assuming this due to the expansions length?

It´s taken from the official FAQs:

http://dragonage.bio.../awakening/faq/

1.7 – If I had a romance in Origins, does it carry over into Awakening? (Back to top)

Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat.

1.8 – Who can I romance in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening? (Back to top)

There are no romances options available in Awakening. The story is focused more on the mission at hand and the new threat to Ferelden.
