Actually Besetment I was watching your more recent vids today. The vid for the first part of Korlus, you seemed to be really getting it. Just need a liiiitle bit more aggression. Probably the fact that you were recording it in one uninterrupted run put a lot of pressure and self preservation instinct into you. You seemed more cautious in the second vid.

Maybe I'll make a vid on Korlus, then...

It all went to crap in the second video. Heh. The joy of no save/reload speedruns! Guess you just take the good with the bad. You will rarely if ever do a perfect take but it is a real take and I think that better reflects what the class can do. Theres plenty of videos on youtube that are segmented and show how to do it perfectly a couple of minutes at a time but how many times did you rerecord to get it right and how many balls ups were there in between?

I remember commenting that Cruz1ale's aim was amazing in his sniper test videos back when he first posted them and he confessed that he had to redo the video many times to get it right. Heh. If you do it better than me, feel free to make it a response to my video. Then I'll have to do it again just to beat you.

:o Friendly rivalry and all that!

Okay... I don't know how you guys can play under FRAPS so well, because goddamn. As soon as I hit record my accurcy just dropped like it was in a high gravity environment. I'm not very good at aiming but I'm usually better than this, I swear! T_T

Not a smooth run. Died like 3 times. Or was it 4? Lots of mistakes shown, stupid decisions, tragic charged shotgun misses, whiffed melee, some moments saved only by pure dumb luck. Even got a BSOD at one point. But I cbf retrying any more right now. Maybe later, after more practice at 30fps.

Fraps kills your framerate if you record full screen. I get about 40 to 50fps on average without fraps and with fraps the average is 18 to 24fps. You may notice in some of my videos the framerate sometimes drops precipitously (it nearly crashes in Dossier: The Professor part 2 about half way through). You will always be able to do the run better without fraps so consider your recorded run the 'worst' best scenario. You can get used to the low fps quite quickly as long as its constant. When it jumps up and down then it throws your aim off and you miss. (You can't take the run back either unless you want to redo up to 20 minutes of gameplay or segment).

This happens to basically everyone its just that my PC is quite old. I was watching some Adept speedrunning Korlus and if he didn't segment it would have been baller. Dude was playing with lower framerates than me and was still kicking butt.

Edit: just finished watching your video. Guddamn you have balls.

A big part of the reason for segmented play isn't about reloads, it's about the attention span of your average youtube viewer. Shorter vids tend to do better than longer vids in general, so I tend to segment them if for nothing else brevity. I've got one or two complete runs (Garrus loyalty for sure, can't remember if there was anything else off the top of my head) but most of it is segmented for length.

Yeah not many people do Archangel's Base runs cuz its got so many cutscenes in them though in fairness you can skip them. Archangel's Base is probably the worst for cutscenes though ('come speak to me!').

I used to do segmented videos but I didn't feel like those videos really showed what the class was like. It maybe showed what it was like if you were a machine and had 4 weetabixes this morning but most people aren't like that and they don't play like that. But thats just my opinion and appreciate everyone has different reasons.

Hahah, rewinding OniGannon charging down 2x rocket troopers and 3 mooks. classic. We all need to chip in and buy you a 5 button mouse though.

:X

Alright, I tried setting it to 60fps half screen and it made aiming a fair bit easier. But the framerate dropped terribly low in some bits, which didn't happen at 30fps. Ah well.

Korlus again, doing basically the same thing. Shows it wasn't just a fluke, I guess. Was one run, first attempt. Died in the section after this, retried and got through it only to find total vid length exceeded 10m and footage was boring anyway, so cut it to just these first two sections.

what bonus power do you use for CQC infiltrator? I used to use AP ammo for bonus shotgun damage. But now I consider energy drain as someone mentioned above

Personally I use Neural Shockwave. Shocked/Staggered/Frozen enemies are very easy to advance on, it has long duration and crazy short cooldown. And it instakills Husks.

Another vid, Horizon. Nothing really that hasn't been shown by others' vids though.

Think I might create a separate thread/guide if I get enough of these vids going.

Thanks for the vids OniGanon, neural shockwave is more effective than I would have thought.

Thank you for the vids Oniganon, colour me impressed! I wasn't aware how effective neural shock actually was, especially against husks. I would love to see you create a guide, the infiltrator needs some more love anyway. Please could you remind me what power selection you have chosen? Are we looking at a damage bonus on that tactical cloak or a longer duration?

Sinosleep, I meant no offence and you certainly didn't put me off, I just wanted to fully sound out the playstyle before I commited myself :)

Oh, Husks aren't really a problem for an Infiltrator anyway. Cryo Ammo makes short work of them.

The build I use is always thus:

6 Disruptor

10 Squad Cryo

10 Assassin Cloak

3 Incinerate

1 AI Hack

10 Agent

10 Neural Shockwave

Nice video.  We are of a like mind on staggers.  And I will have to give Neural Shockwave a try on my Infiltrator.

OniGanon,

Nice vids. MAN you have some quads. Charging 2 heavies plus company? Sheesh, I'da never tried that. And the whole "Stagger saves lives. It saves lots of lives." It's funny because it's true. I try to keep my squad off cooldown just for such occasions. I've used Energy Drain for my bonus because of this, I want my Shepard with his lower cooldowns to be stripping defenses, with my squadmates as the "Oh crap!" buttons for staggers and whatnot. But I like Neural Shock in your vids. I may have to give it a try, and use my squad for more defense stripping and Shepard for the staggers. Definately food for thought.

Oni, do you find that your disruptor ammo is the least used power in your arsenal?

I ask because after watching your videos I started my infiltrator build and found that I hardly used disruptor rounds at all when doing Mordin's and Garrus' recruitment missions. Once I'd equipped cryo ammo, my smg and Incisor made short work enemy shields making disruptor ammo redundant.

Mm, my least used power is actually Incinerate, because I hate having too much cooldown taken away from Cloak, and because I rarely think to use it. Any time Incinerate would be useful, I usually just fire the Viper or Heavy Pistol instead, so I forget I even have it. That and I hate the casting zoom thing. This is just personal preference though.

Disruptor Ammo, I put on my Locust to use against Drones, Geth and shielded bosses like YMIR. Against normal shielded enemies, I find SMG + Cryo is better than using Disruptor, after the Shield Pierce upgrade anyway.

If you want to skimp on Disruptor to get a stronger Incinerate, remember Zaeed can give Squad Disruptor.

Good suggestion, I imagine that vs YMIRs is when disruptor ammo really comes into it's own, especially when both squadmates are dead. I'll have to remember that for Garrus' loyalty mission!

As for incinerate, I found I was using that quite often in Omega's slums. In fact the combination of incinerate, cloak and cryo ammo ensured that no krogan even got close to being to be deadly. I remember during my first insanity game charging krogan used to be a fear of mine. Cryo ammo totally eliminates that fear. Now, it's me charging them (whilst cloaked of course, I'm not that brave).

Would it be rude to ask you to make some more vids? I wann see you start a seperate thread/guide...

I'm pretty busy with work at the moment, but I am trying to get a bunch of useful clips together as well as learning to restrict my pausing to directing the squad and serious Oh Snap moments.

Heh, that reminds me... If you've been too daring and find yourself moments from death, the solution is often to be EVEN MORE DARING. At this point, backtracking will just get you killed anyway. You may as well do something crazy and get killed quicker to save time. You might even pull it off and survive!

And also, yeah I kinda want to redo the videos I have, too. As much as a few of you guys say I was pretty gutsy in those vids, truth is I was being too cautious.

No pressure Oni. Just showing my support is all.

Be MORE daring?? Actually, I tried that during Kasumi's loyalty mission last night and was surprised how often I survived! I haven't been to the collector ship for my shotty yet, so I'm relying on the smg for close quarters. It comes down to who can fire a shot first: me or the vanguard.

As for your being too cautious, you're more reckless than I. I like to whittle shields down with the incisor, close in once I'm out of ammo (which doesn't take long). Whereas you go straight in!

Well this vid isn't very informative or helpful... But it's at least hopefully amusing. I hope you all enjoy the punchline as much as I did.
