Yes, yes! You are the Grey Warden commander and the Hero of Ferelden. You can have any guy/girl you want but you don't have time for your own relationships. Nope, but you can at least take become a matchmaker for ney GW recruits. How fun.

Nother good one.

The romances weren't crutches for side-quests. Unless I missed the part where I could romance Wynn, Sten, Shale or Oghren, they all had side-quests too. I didn't , did I? Oh I hope not.

Taken from Awakening FAQ:

"1.7 – If I had a romance in Origins, does it carry over into Awakening? (Back to top)

Romances do not carry forward in Awakening, because you are away from your previous life fighting a new threat."

Seriously? So, if my PC married Alistair and became Queen (Princess-Consort) I am just 'away' from my previous life in Awakening? I am all of a sudden no longer married - right after my lavish wedding (this is set only about 6 months after Origins)? How does that make any sense? And I am going to be spending money on this expansion, why?

I just had the same thought - beside the romance options and dialogues I will miss inbetween the quests and fights greatly miss.

And it makes no sense to buy the game if I can't continue the relationship with Alistair I chosed before with my Char - seems pretty awkward to me.

That was what made it simple unique - If Bioware this take away - ....

then I can greatly spare my money and play Dungeon and Dragons

What should replace romance ... "bromance". Raising your influence with characters is sort of "bromance" already. But there should be interesting things happening along the way, maybe more stuff you can unlock, deepen the friendship, etc.

Yes, help people hook up and have fun while you sit in your camp all alone and cry yourself to sleep.

Indeed ! if I only heard such a thing like this, I will play this game exactly as an hack'n slash.. by avoiding any single dialogue options...No time for my own affairs?! Well.. no time for other people's affairs then...

Don't you know that love conquers all?
What better way is there to defeat evil other than making all your party members love each other?

David Gaider said in another thread that you aren't broken up or divorced from your significant other- you're just away from them only during the duration of Awakenings (he basically said 'You can't continue the relationship during this adventure), which from what I understood meant that we may be able to continue said romances in DA:2. I think Awakenings is just too short to have either new romances start with your PC or that you truly are away from home, away from those you care for.

Its not only the romances - I think about the Epilogue - based on the decisions you made during the game with your Char ...

Seems for me its pretty wiped out then - at least the most of them.

as example = a romance with Zevran r - at the end he is helping to rebuild the Grey Warden .. just all .. away ??? 6 months later ???

They'll probably explain it away like "Zevran stayed in Ferelden continuing to recruit Grey Wardens while you dealt with this problem" or something like that. I'm curious as well as to how they'll handle it, but I doubt it will be a complete ignorance to whatever happened in Origins.

I still believe they will never be able to carry on all possible finals from DAO, neither in this case, nor in every future expansion/sequel.. There are too much differences beetwen finals of every player, due to several choices we were allowed to do... In order to do this they should make a game with several beginnings, creating tons of different scenes and dialogues for every single player...and I think this is quite impossible... even if would be amazing...

Didn't BGII have romance between NPCs or was that just the mods? I had so many mods the line between official and non offical blurs.

And yes, Morrigan wouldn't touch that gorm Allistair with a ten foot Morning Star. She has taste. :-)

I hope that the new characters can romance EACH OTHER and maybe you can help with it.

I always wonder why people request interparty relationships and that no one mentions the interview of Fernando Melo conducted by IGN, in which he states:

Fernando Melo wrote...
You have everything from foil characters that are there for comic
relief and banter all the way to characters that have more sexual
tension with other party members. It's kind of humorous to follow their
attempts.
There's definitely going to be a lot of richness to the
characters you meet.

(pc.ign.com/articles/105/1058656p2.html)

I always thought that, given this statement in the interview, inter-party relationships were in the pipeline for Awakening...

That could just mean more oral sex and looking up skirt jokes and not anything substantial though.

You misunderstand - I meant that the romance sidequests in Bioware games are usually gimmicks that are cheesy and don't add character depth. In DA I was actually really surprised that I liked it, and it had to do with the fact that there was a lot more dialogue and the characters were far better developed than the love interests in previous games were. Really, in terms of party companions, DA:O is so far ahead of ME1, Jade Empire, and KOTOR, that it's not even funny.

How does it make sense, easy answer, in the most common sense sort of way, your duty as a Warden comes first.  You must honor your duty over your personal relationship, I thought Duncan was pretty clear about the whole becoming a Warden and duty thing.  This is just like in real life if someone joins the military and must be shipped out away from their family and love for a certain amount of time.  It doesn't stop the personal life or cause it to cease, it simply puts it on hold.  This happens all the time in the real world and makes the most sense for a Warden.

I would say that that quote sounded promising (but mainly your interpretation of it)... but looking back on past games (namely one I admit)... however I am considering reserving judgment of Awakening (because of what you just said) until its out, people have bought it and have told us how it is going down, and Bioware starts opening communication channels again. My dad is in the military, our father-son relationship has always continued where it left off before he left.

However, as far as all the endings related things that were not romance related... they shouldn't have had so many endings than (then again for all I know it was always intended to be a stand-alone game - hence a rediculous number of endings).

Its not hard to deduce from that last part though, that LadyAly's marriage may not be acknowledged at all, or even carry over into II if it is a direct sequel.

If you allow Alistair to become king and remain in your party he goes off to fight the Archdemon. To me this would be similar, if your character married Alistair and became queen or married Anora and became King you leave said person to take responsibility for that duty while you take up the Warden duty. Pretty simple thing for them to do and it really probably wouldn't effect much that comes except in small ways (that Bioware is good at doing).
