A lot of special forces are actually all about building tribal alliances and milita forces (i.e. the northern alliance in afghanistan) and a big part of that is winning hearts and minds.

Is that what CNN told you last night?

What you are talking about is actually CIA job, and Army / Navy SpecOp troops provide cover* for those missions. And it always bites you in the arse, BTW. Hell, Osama bin Laden used to be such an "allied milita guy" in the 1980s.

_________
* that is: extract CIA specialist if something goes wrong, killing scores of tribal natives in the process.

It seems really over the top, some of the renegade decisions, but I've managed to play a relatively balanced renegade playthrough, where I have about 70% renegade and a bit over 40% paragon. Most of the loyalty missions I've ended paragon.

On the other hand, I've noticed on my paragon playthroughs that I've done more renegade stuff, too, to the tune of a full 100% paragon to 40% or so renegade.

I think in the end, while I don't like several of the renegade decisions, what they have managed to do is introduce gray to a lot of decisions, so it's a little more difficult to just be all one or the other the way ME1 was.

well i always play renegade - you get to kill a lot more people and just act more badass rather than "no miranda (substitute any other team-mate name here) don't kill anyone, we can talk about this instead," like a whiny ****.... having said that, you don't just take any renegade option available, it's more about playing naturally and consistently, so sometimes neutral or paragon conversation options are more appropriate.

I think if you played either as "pure" paragon or renegade you'd be doing stuff that would make you go "seriously, really?!" I mean there are some times that going renegade is just the right thing to do, like when Garrus throws you the sniper rifle and you have an enemy mech's head full in the scope. NOT taking the shot is a "duh!" moment I would think.

Same thing when you meet Elnora when you try to recruit Samara. Its spelled out clear and plain that all members of Eclipse must murder someone to become a full member and thus put on the outfit's colors / armor. So what did you do when Elnora gives you the classic "they made me do it...I didn't really want to!" act? Let her go? Heck no.

Same thing when you talk to your team members. Being a jerk to them just isn't going to win you friends, or lovers for that matter.

backpedaling happens as a Paragon as well - when you walk into the trap on the Collector ship, Shepard says "The Illusive Man wouldn't betray us, something else must've happened" and Miranda agrees (if she's with you obviously).

Just beforehand I spoke with Tali and told her that I knew Cerberus would betray us, it was just a matter of time. So it's not just the Renegade path that's full of contradiction.

That's kind of a seperate problem though, more about how Shepard's seeming loyalty to the Illusive man is wholly unrealistic.

a lot of the dialogue in ME2 doesn't seem to be as balanced as ME1 - even when you were a renegade there, the majority of interaction seems a bit more, uh, sane?

here, i've lost count of the times male Shepard comes across like a borderline panto villain. female is a lot better imho, but some of the renegade choices in general seem vaguely OTT.

The way I look at it is that it is impossible to play either 100% and still maintain some semblance of reality. Very few go through life taking that view.

For me I feel that the conversation choices are a result of a) what I want out of the conversation, B) who the other person is - some characters (Udina for example) will always get the renegade response, and c) what the situation is. Someone posted earlier that renegade is simply being pragmatic, I'd argue that the same applies to both at times.

I generally end up with a very high or maxed paragon score, but always end up too with around 30/40% renegade simply because there are some situations or conversations where that's the sensible option.

Sometimes I wish I had a "Renegade Light" button option. You know, the flesh wound instead of the kill. :innocent:+=:wizard:

I have one 100% Paragon, one 100% Renegade, and the rest of my characters are a mix of both and I do what feels best at the moment.

That being said, I laugh alot on my Renegade runs because it is just so uberMean and jerky - seriously why hasn't my crew thrown me out the airlock yet? LOL

I'm full Paragon, but I will take Renegade interrupts if there isn't a peaceful solution (i.e. shooting mercs in Miranda's loyalty mission/blowing up Krogan in Mordin's loyalty mission). If there is a peaceful solution, I'll take it (i.e. letting Eclipse merc go instead of pushing him out the window in Thane's recruitment mission).

I kind of felt that the "big" renegade choices, like not saving the council; preserving the collector base; ect. could be seen as "pragmatic" and not necessarily evil. But most of the minor renegade choices and pretty much all of the persuasive renegade choices are at best bullying and at worst psychopathic.

When I play this game I tend to lean more towards Paragon, but I tend to lean more towards the dirty rotten but lovable scounrel side of the light side of the Force.

I like playing paragon the most but renagade has some of the funniest lines in the game.

Shepard: Hey everyone, this store descriminates against the poor!

Store owner: Okay! Okay! How about i give you a discount?

Shepard: Okay.....But you still hurt my feelings.

Shepard: I'm in charge here, not cerberus.

Tali: So you were the one that decided to place listening devices all over the ship?

Merc recruiter: Strippers go next door.

FemShepard: *pulls out pistol* Show me yours.. I bet mines bigger..

Salarian: Please, I don't want to hurt you.

Shepard: *punches salarian* Hurt me, I hardly felt a thing.

Shepard: I won't be second-guessed ON my own ship BY my own ship!

Most people go through the game once as Renegade and once as Paragon. You would be missing out on half the game otherwise.

Paragon Shep can be a bit schizo as well.

"Mordin you murderer, the genophage was wrong, the Krogan didn't deserve this!"

*At Mordins student*
"How could you create a cure?! What if the Krogan swarm the galaxy again?!"

My Renegade is a pragmatic person but has a bit of a mean streak. I can't play as a Paragon, I feel that the choices are naive and illogical. I also like to play my character with character flaws, not the perfect person but someone who through sheer will and determination gets the job done. Not the perfect hero who saves the day.

If you look at it from a character's perspective, taking out the fact you know its a game with mechanics. I just can't agree with a lot of the Paragon choices for my particular character. I out of character know that I should pick the Paragon option because that has the best outcome 99.9% of the time, but people are never that accepting or trusting in real life. Especially in ultra-intense situations like Shepard is put in.

My girl is Spacer/Ruthless. She is a hardass, she is tough, she is a Vanguard. You have to be a touch crazy to be a Vanguard. She started out not liking aliens at all, but has softened a bit on that stance, though she still hates Batarians. She believes that ends justify the means as long as the mission succeeds. She takes the "Sacrifice a thousand people to save a million." seriously. She likes to intimidate and humiliate her enemies. She is honestly not that nice of a person. (I wonder what Liara sees in her, maybe she likes bad girls.) At the same time she is not a wholly unfeeling monster. I do not always pick the renegade option, when the paragon feels right I go with it. She did actually save the Council because Liara appealed to her heart and convinced her to.

Same happened to me.  Often after a conversation I'd receive both major Paragon points and minor Renegade points.  Wasn't always sure what I'd said to earn the red points.  All seemed either paragon or neutral to me.

Convenient how only Shepard and Pressly die aint it...lol.

Some of the renagade options are realy cool 1. You could punch the reporter. Or 2. You can make it come off that she was disrespectful to the people that died in the siege of the Citadel.

I still don't understand why people keep referring to Renegade as 'Star Warsy'

Sith eyes generally go yellow not glowy red.

Renegade scarring and eyes are more like Terminator.

Anyone Renegade is fun... I just wish Renegade Shep would say "DAMMIT!"' more often
