"Something tells me Bioware learned their lesson or at least I hope so;))
I believe they didn`t want to tell players how they should feel, how they should react, but because of that main hero became dull and very often looks retarded, as someone`ve already mentioned;)"

Came across this today on the witcher forums and thought it was kind of funny.

That wasn't CD Projekt so much as one guy on their staff, and to be honest DA's hero *is* dull. Of course, every blank slate hero tends to be dull. Their purpose is to be an empty canvas for the player's imagination to fill and make their own. A role-playing friendly protagonist is rarely going to have as strong and defined a personality as one with an established history and personality. Compare DA's Grey Warden to Mass Effect's Shepard and that becomes clear.

That's why one cannot compare The Witcher to the usual RPG. In the Witcher you got a predefined personality whereas other RPG's allow you to to form your own in every aspect.

If DA had a hero like Geralt, I wouldn't have bought it - so I really hope that Bioware haven't 'learned their lesson' and go on letting the player define their hero.

The DA PC is very dull all by itself. But, that's the whole point. By leaving the PC generally unwritten you give the players the opportunity to define the personality and roleplay. Even then you don't get the same feeling as a predefined character who has a set personality, but you get more freedom.

With games like DAO, I think it's up to the individual player to bring the hero to life.

I have played both games and I have to say that while I did enjoy The Witcher, I liked DA a lot better. I found there were many times in The Witcher where I just wandered around aimlessly wondering what I needed to do next, where as in DA that never did happen to me. The fact that in The Witcher your PC is fully voiced makes it so that you really have to like Geralt or not, where in DA if I don't particularly like my current character I can start a new one and have something almost completely different from what I had previously, with The Witcher you get Geralt and thats it.

My apologies, this may be my fault. CD Projekt Red may have used this Character of mine as their test Character:

Wow, as the one who caused the whole discussion I have to say that I`m really surprised how my words were misunderstood.

First of all, this was my PRIVATE opinion and it has nothing to do with CDProjekt RED at ANY point. I`m not - as it was mentioned - a representative of CDPR on our community forums. I`m just marked as an employee.

Second, I wrote about main character in Dragon Age, which I find a bit soulless. By that I mean it`s not talkin, it doesn`t have any face expression.

That was all I ment, because I find Dragon Age one of the best RPGs I`ve ever played! I love it and I was really addicted to it for a long time, even tho I didn`t like the main character face expression ;)))

That would be all:) Have a great day :)

Oh, and BTW - this also was my private opinion ;)
