 lack of Garrus bromance,

Ewww. Dude, bro comes from brother. Bromance is a platonic term. Try "dudemance" or something. The implication of having sex with your brother is gross. There is a MAJOR Garrus bromance in ME2 to the point where I was feeling its overtones as a female playing a female, which is weird. It's m/m romance that we haven't seen yet. Here's hoping that will change.

I should let you know that I can still appreciate the aesthetic beauty of women, they just don't do anything for me sexually.

Heh, this is EXACTLY how I feel about other women. Hell, I was even depressed about it once or twice in my life when I was boyfriendless and had an awesome female friend, but there's no fixing it. You like what you like.

Interesting post. I think you're at least partially right... I mean, look at the popularity of Thane. (I'm surprised you aren't eyeing him instead of Garrus! Keener is just that damned good, I guess.)

I do feel the uncanny valley a little bit, but for me, nothing in ME2 actually bothers me on a conscious level. Garrus and Tali--though I see what you're saying, for me it's still the voice and personality that I like, which is why I was squicked by the way the Garrus romance played out.

Jack, on the other hand... I guess the tattooes, makeup, and her flecked skin really made her look a lot more human to me. Ironically, Miranda's "perfect" skin looked inhuman, and I think that bothered me a bit. If she'd had a few flaws, a few freckles or zits or large pores or something, I don't think it would've been as weird.

Imperfection actually looks more real and thus less "uncanny." I think that's a good lesson.

The original post is a good read, and while the responses have been good as well, the only thing I can think to add to the conversation is slightly tangential:

Regarding UV, the best circumstance I've seen that feeling exploited is the movie Surrogates.  I swear, the make up artists and actors did a really good job at making all those 'bots seem juuuuust a tad off.  To me, that is a perfect example of human like things that are close, but not quite.

As for how the romances played out with the aliens, I'm finding myself questioning just how human like are any of the other races?  I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm firmly in the Garrus/Batman/Archangel is the MAN camp, and he's my MainShep's LI, but once the idea of a romance between a human and a turian came to mind, you had to think about all these other things... so their feelings can be human like, but how are their phyiscal responses?  (One of the LJ ME group people have this awesome post about the possible xenobiology of turians.)

Thane's resemblence to a human male made romancing him initially boring (because well, I figured he was just fanservice since Jacob ended up being so damn awkward) but his personality helped me get over that and start to see how he was attractive.

I totally wished you could have FemShep'd Tali.  O.M.G.  She's so freakin' adorkable.

When it came to Liara in ME1... I don't think I could call it the UV, unless the fact that she reminded me of a teenage girl and that's what put me off.  Forget her "actual" age, she looked young, she sounded too young.  Just wasn't interested in something like that.  As for Kaiden, sure, he looks good, forgeting how a PC generated character isn't going to get everything right, but the military mindset made it hard to romance him.  I saw him as an underling, someone I was responsible for.  Was REALLY tough to put moves on  him. (Which btw, don't get me started on that.  The fact that Shep has to initiate relationships still irks me, even though it's supposedly one of those core writes into the Shep character.)

That post seems quite well thought out. It echoes some of my own speculation in this thread, so I'd be inclined to agree with most of it.
