Ok, this has been gnawing at me for awhile. I've been going back on my first playthrough of the game (Dalish origin) and really wanted to see the dialogue options I had with Tamlen when he come back as a ghoul. I can't for the life of me figure out what part of the game triggered the event where the shrieks attack the camp. I have checked numerous save files with no success. I did a forum search and can only find 4 threads that even mention Tamlen. Argh. Can anyone recall when EXACTLY the event occurs where Tamlen and the shrieks show up at the party camp? Would really appreciate it

The Shrieks appear in camp after you've at least gotten 3 of your treatie quests done, doesn't matter which one's. It'll start out as a dream n then talk to Alistair n then the shrieks come

I had a run through as a Dalish elf where the camp attack just never happened. I got to the end - nothing triggered it. I assume it's glitched. On my other characters, I was stopped X on the road as if for battle (or tegin) entered the camp fight, then got to talk to Alastair after. In this run, it never happened.

Yes, I have had it happen (Tamlen coming back as a ghoul) only 2/3 Dalish run throughs.

Last playthrough for me the event triggered after collecting the Urn of sacred stuff. This was after I had signed up the Elves, Midgets and Mages - so 4th out of 4 pre-Denerim story arcs.

Ok, I found it by process of elimination and checking saves where I had the "I had another dream about the archdemon" option with Alistair. So, right after collecting the ashes and going to the village of Haven triggered the second archdemon dream that leads to the Tamlen scene which then allows for you to talk about it later with Alistair. Yeah, figured it out in a backwards way, heh. I only had two treaties at this point (Elves and Mages) but I think the Ashes is key to triggering the event.

No, I think it's just the actual number of main quests completed. 

On my Dalish runthrough, I got the camp attack before doing the Ashes as I'd left the urn quest till last.  Not sure if the order of events then affects the dialogue you get at the Gauntlet but what I got fitted perfectly.  Following is a spoiler on that dialogue if you're interested....

When Tamlen's spirit appears he give you the amulet and says something along the lines of the PC having suffered enough, it's time for her to move on with her life and they would not meet again.  That final goodbye with Tamlen was very soothing; his camp appearance as a ghoul had left her so disturbed and upset.  It was a rare moment of compassion from the DA:O devs !

Ah yes, I find it a bit strange that in my playthrough I saw the spirit-Tamlen before the ghoul-Tamlen. Ah well, maybe this will still help others who have had trouble triggering the scene at the party camp.

The emotional stuff with Tamlen is awesome, it's a shame he cannot be saved and turned into a party member, I know my Dalish female would have felt a lot more comfortable if she had been able to travel with him at her side.

Leonia42, you probably already know this but there is a mod called Karma's Companions that you can recruit Tamlen. A quest to turn him back into tamlen and not the ghoul and possible romance too

I was looking for more stuff on Tamlen myself.
