Two words; Celine Dion

Okay, on that I must bow to you as there can be no argument about the evil of Celine

Thumbs up. At first I thought the rachni would make a noticable appearance in Mass Effect 2, but they hardly did. Aside from a few dialogue about them, there was nothing. I'm hoping they will make an appearance in ME3, but probably not. I think the decision is really if you want renegade or paragon points.

Depends on the character.

Paragon - save her

Renegade - Kill her

I chose not to Rachni Queen. After all, do the people of the future not deserve the opportunity to sample jumbo space shrimp? The idea of putting an end to the delicious space shrimp makes me sad.

I didn't kill her. Rachni were easy cannon fodder and missions, not as tough as mercs or geth. So might as well get more XP.

But actually I thought they should be allowed to have their own destiny. Okay, they attack Shep and his crew when he lands on some planet with a mine. How many ships could just freely land on Earth or go armed into the Citadel and start looting? They would be attacked before and after landing.

And the Krogan were probably more aggressive in wiping them out, so out hands weren't clean; like being allies with the Soviets against the Axis. And they couldn't surrender or come to a political conclusion.

I looked at it that the Rachni Queen could have been singing any line of BS to escape being killed.

All I did know was that they had once represented a very real risk to the galaxy and hence I wasn't going to be the blundering fool that let the danger loose and played devils advocate with the safety of the universe.

Killing one person is okay. Killing a billion people is okay. Exterminating a race is unforgivable.

As both FemShep/ MaleShep have been mostly Paragon I saved the Queen each time. While often the intent of roll playing is to allow a player the chance to step outside of their own personality I could not justify destroying a sentient race.

I freed her.

Maybe if there was an opposite encounter for killing her I would have made a different choice. Seems like with everyone's fate that you can control, people will appear again in some way if you let them live. If you kill them, that's the end of it. No one seeks revenge in Mass Effect 2.

True, about that.

So as to how the Rachni truly figure into ME3 will be interesting, especially after what that Asari who talks to you in Illium says from the RQ.

Let her live. Counting on her to come back and help in the final showdown with the Reapers.

Let her live, probably will be the only willing leader to help Shepard against the reapers almost unconditionally, since she fully understands the threat and scale of it.

I kept her alive and expected it to have bad consequences. But based on her message in ME2, it seems to have been the right choice.

I saved her, no person could be that cruel and evil to kill off an entire race.

I think one of the guys on page 1 put it best.

Do you kill the child of a serial killer simply because he might grow up to kill 100 people? No. That's completely ridiculous.

The Rachni live in a monarchy. In human history, we even look negatively on killing people who were following their leader's orders, as the penalty for disobedience would often be severe.

The -former- Rachni monarch demanded war, and her people followed. This Rachni monarch has not yet declared war, and as such it would be unethical to kill her when she hasn't yet done anything to deserve it.

That said, most of the "Renegade" choices are unethical in one way or another, so it wouldn't be out of character.

I let her live every time but once, simply to see the alternate cutscene. I don't approve of genocide without cause.

I just beat ME2 a few days ago and after certain events there it got me thinking, like who decided to spare the Rachni Queen and who didn't and why they made that decision. For me on both recent playthroughs in ME1 I've spared the Queen, wasn't trying for the Paragon points. It just felt wrong to wipe her out like that, to my Shep it seemed that this wasn't one of the genocidal Rachni so killing her woujld accomplish nothing. That decision was made w/o any knowledge of ME 2 as well since i replayed ME to get my Shep's choices into ME2.

spared her I want a rachnii army to help in ME3:)

I spared her, but only because I want a rachni army at my disposal. They, as in an entire species, owe me now...big time.

I really like the line "Depends on the species, Turian" when you kill the queen however. Tough choice ^^

As Renegade I killed her, but I am actually closer to my paragon Shepard, so Thumb Up! The Rachni will kick some serious Reaper butts!

It is a shame we could not have left the Turian alive though... I loved him even more! But why do both use Assari to talk?

I let her live. I have a feeling the more people I save the better my chances in ME3. Saved the rachni, gave the heretics to Legion's geth, and saved the genophage data, so if they all stay allies the reapers have a problem.

Saved her on my Paragon and killed her on my Renegade (although it was a very hard thing for me to do!).
