I'm playing an Archer build and wondering if I should sacrifice Owen as well as completion of Armor of Diligence set for the Far Song Bow.

Any opinion is welcome.

Well, Far Song is by far the best bow in the game. The Diligence Boots are good, to, but looks aside there's little reason to go for the complete set. It's a tank-set and a tank usually doesn't need that much willpower.

You also miss out on a GM Hale rune if you don't save Valena. But yes, Far Song is worth it (IMO).

Yes, I haven't put the bow down since I got it. Just make sure you save your money, it's pricey.

Is 10+ Crit Damage any good for Warrior archers, or is it favourable to Rogue only? Genarally it only adds 2+ Damage. Which is lower than that of Marjoline's Recurve.

Technically, doesn't Owen kill himself? Is it really your fault if you tried your hardest and ignored where Valena was?

It's not so much the sentiment of causing suicide through deception, it's more the question of  Far Song's worth over the full or complete set of Diligence Armor to carry on to the Expansion.

I'd kill him, just to be safe.

I actually felt really guilty that he killed himself. I walked right past his daughter in the basement, but let him think she was dead just to get that bow. Oh well, it's a sweet bow.

You guys are heartless - you and Morrigan should be real happy together - right up til she stabs you in the eye!

In all fairness, Owen to me is a bit of a jerk.

He refuses to help the militia and knights till you promise to save his daughter from the castle, even though he knows, like everyone else, that the monsters are coming from the castle. If he believes that his daughter could still be alive, you would think he would do everything he could to help the local fighters to wage war against these monsters and repel them and convince them to enter the castle and search for survivors.

Honestly though, I get a little frustrated with everyone in Redcliffe during this mission. The tavern owner won't even give the guys a free drink when they could be dying that night. The priestess in the Chantry is all self-righteous about tricking the knights into thinking they have holy protection. That dwarf refuses to help unless you pay him or persuade him.

I think that's partly the point - the stress has revealed the fracture points in the community, and it's up to the Warden to bolster them. Or not.

I'd be inclined to say that on the whole this is a few bad apples, though - you notice them because they're the ones causing problems that you need to fix.

Well I don't feel bad. In my game Owen was the one who attacked me first, and he was hiding a stash of weapons and armor from the militia.

Oh wow I didn't know bout this and I'm in the middle of the Redcliffe quest. This is why I luv forums and say nuts to buyin a strategy guide, sorry Bioware. Someone get a boat and an archer with a flaming arrow, not to be confused with the dance club The Flaming Arrow in San Francisco, cuz Owen ain't gonna see the next sunset.

I'm missing something, how do you get Owen to attack you?  If he does attack you, he drops Farsong?

No he doesn't drop farsong, but the dude who replaces him sells it.

You can get Owen to attack you by snooping around the smithy. When you find his stash, he tells you to back off; if you don't then he attacks.

YES! Its the best bow in the game. Too bad it takes over half the game to make the gold to be able to buy it...

Its one of the most expensive of the expensive items (120 Gold), but it is so worth it for an archer. I actually got it on my first game purely through negligence as I didn't notice Valena (somehow).

You know you can scare him into fighting that night and Bella will give you free access to his supplies then?

It's really funny to see him fighting on the front lines with a puny little dagger.  I tried to heal him the last couple games but no luck. Posted Image

Wow. I can't believe that so many would lead an old man to suicide just to pick a weapon off his corpse. Thats...harsh.

Very true.

Strangely, these are the same sort of people who complained about their character turning evil near the end of BG2. :P

Don't expect it to have a unique appearance, it looks identical to Marjolaine's Recurve.

...and I will join the forces with my second character - unless he's past this option already. Can't remember.
