Wow. I can't believe that so many would lead an old man to suicide just to pick a weapon off his corpse. Thats...harsh.
But how does your character know that Owen'll commit suicide? It's definitely metagaming on the player's part, but to your character, not so much. And (continuing the metagaming) if you don't even enter the room Valena can be found in, your PC isn't even lying when s/he tells Owen that s/he hasn't seen his daughter.
A couple (alas, not all) of my past archer PCs have done this and all of my future archer PCs will do this. The bow's that good. And I've never been averse to letting a little metagaming creep into my playthroughs!

I'm actually considering reloading just to snag this for Leli.

You guys are heartless - you and Morrigan should be real happy together - right up til she stabs you in the eye!
Except that she'll never stab you anywhere.

I don't think it's a matter of being harsh, my take on it is this...
I've beaten the game twice but i've got several different active playthrough's going on, let's say 10, at least 8 out of 10 of these play through's have been played through with a heavy Moral guidline, making the choices i believe i would make in that situation, after awhile i've got several characters who are great people but i've pretty much seen all the things that being anice guy or girl can get you.
So then you just want to explore the other side of the game to see what happens and what becomes available.
Would i IRL do that to Owen? Good Lord no, i'm too nice a guy to do that, but if i was in Dragon Age IRL i probably would have been cut down by a Darkspawn nice guy or not lol

As in my 1st playthrough, I refused to help the villagers against the creatures during the first night, I left and came back, continuing my quest. Do I have to help Redcliffe in order to get a new smithy?
I hope not, my motivation to go through the whole circle tower thing again just demotivates me. If you would have to accept and offer help to Redcliffe villagers, is there any modification which lets some other vendor sell the bow?

Heh, point taken. In that case, I'll just note that if you don't rescue his daughter, you can't get the boots of diligence, and it's rather nice armor.

I love how I'm still discovering new items and conversations even after so many playthroughs.

Unless maybe you're hitting for 250+ against bosses or something?

but otherwise, yea, i agree, AoS is pretty sad against anything of consequence. against most bosses, it barely does more than a regular crit.

people like seeing big numbers... one of these days i'm gonna spend an hour or so reload/shooting those level 0 mobs during the final battle just to see how high i can get it.

If you want big damage numbers, you don't have to kill off poor old Owen - Just use Mana Clash!

Between 250 to 400 on Highly Armored or Elite Bosses. Best against lightly armored opponents, but keep in mind they have to have decent health points to be able to get high AOS score.soteria wrote...
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand the rave about huge Arrow of Slaying crits. I guess 800+ damage is "cool," but if you did half that you'd still probably kill any white/normal enemy out there, and the damage is drastically reduced against elites and bosses. I just don't see what's so great about huge amounts of overkill when it does the most damage when you need it least.
