Hi all, I'm encountering a strange problem.

Picked up Dragon age for my second play through,  Downloaded RTO and the patch, played yesterday no problems.

When I load up today it can't connect to EA's servers, not a problem usually, but now I don't have a start menu or anything, nothing at all on the opening screen after pressing start.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I know! I can get the menu up if I remove the patch from the XBox, but I understand that can mess with DLC so I don't want to carry on my game without it.

They are updating the servers maybe? The mass effect 2 server is down as well. I really dont find that shameful... I doubt it will be down long.

What is shameful is that we can't even play the game offline anymore.  I can't START the game without an EA connection.

It's shameful because there's been nothing but bug after game breaking bug. Bioware is a major developer, EA is the largest publisher. Yet support for this game is awful.

This is ridiculous. Come on EA / Bioware / Edge Reality Why do I have to connect to your servers to even play the game offline?

Not for me, I don't even get a menu now if I'm connected to Live, and if I physically disconnect, it won't load my save becuase of my "Bonus Items!"  WTF!

I'm the biggest Bioware fan out there, but not being able to play my game, my single-player game, without the EA servers is outragous.  I get the need for all this crap on the PC, its also why I don't play PC game anymore.  But it is totally unnecssary for the consoles!  I bought the CE for both DOA and ME2, planning to have and hold them forever (I usually trade games in/out constantly).  But does this mean that whenever EA decides to stop supporting these games' servers, I'm SOL?

that's the same thing I've been wondering. I am a collector of games, sometimes going years before playing the game again. I thought I bought the game as well as the DLC, downloaded it and could play it now and agin in 2011 if I wanted.
What now, after 2010 (or sometime) I'll have to play the game without Shale and all the other stuff I PAID FOR?

I did'nt "rent" the DLC, I bought it, paid in full and should have it as long as I desire with absolutely NO restrictions.

Did they even announce that it was going to be down and back up? Because I am clueless of what is happening at the moment.

If EA even want's to stand in the shadow of other major online RPGs, EA needs to needs to let there customers know what's going on. I mean I wonder how many people will return or trade in Dragon Age: Origins because of a silly little issue like this. I will let my friends know about this issue one in particular wanted to pick this up, but with limited time to play games he won't even bother spending the money or wasting the time.

I'm on the phone with EA support, they're saying "What? That doesn't make any sense... let me go ask a few questions" - lol

Word from EA support is there's a new patch coming soon that will address this issue for Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, and Dante's Inferno. Servers are coming back up now so for now it's resolved.

When the servers come back up, you might consider forcibly downloading all of your DLC to make sure you have the necessary licenses for offline play. I don't have RtO, so I don't know what sort of interactions might be happening there, but the promotional items can be used when offline. The following discussion thread has more detailed instructions:

So long as they act in good faith to get this all patched up, there's no need to go any further on our ends, but it is aggrivating (and illegal) to be unable to use a product (or service) which is purchased.

So here's hoping EA acts in good faith, and patches this issue away. A glitch is one thing, but being renedered unable to use a lawfully purchased product is quite another.

From what it sounded like when I was speaking with them, it is a bug and the DRM was not intended to function in this manner. It was supposed to kick you back to the main menu but doesn't for some reason.
