I don't know if the developers thought this through or not, but it makes a lot of sense from a backstory perspective that Miranda is a chick.  If her father was as controlling as she says, he would have wanted complete control of the genetic material involved in his "dynasty" - and eggs are a lot easier to keep tabs on than sperm.  Creepy, eh?

I was expecting this to be a half-baked conspiracy theory on how Miranda is really a dude.

She could perhaps be a genetic male. Many super models are actually genetic males that have a mutation on their Y chromosome that keeps at extreamly low levels of testosterone. Since gender is actually determined by hormones and not genetics, it could have been a mistaken, or perhaps in the case of her crazy dad who would want a super-model like daughter, purposeful alteration of his Y-chromosome to produce this effect.

BTW these genetic males/actual females can still have kids and are fully 100% women. They just also happen to have a Y chromosome.

"Martin: (after being told the super model daughter he had sex with is a boy) This is obviously a joke. This is impossible!
House: No, a joke would be me calling you a ******. See the difference?"

I've learnt so much from House.

She in a way reminds me of X-23, the female clone of Wolverine. Albeit, Miranda is more well adjusted than X-23.

Haha, you win an internet, sir!

Also, I assumed that Miranda's father created her to be more than a daughter, if you know what I mean.  They just didn't want it to be explicit in the game (and really, it's better that it isn't).  Bioware seems to have learned a lot about subtlety and used it well in ME2.

But according to Casey Hudson humans don't have a gender.

Did you watch half of a Discovery channel special and conclude that you were an expert on reproductive technologies?  You really think that in a future where genetic modification is as common as flu shots that one of the most rich and powerful humans in the galaxy would settle for a daughter because sperm are just too difficult to keep track of?  That's just asinine.  Considering that most of Miranda's DNA was based on her father's (including a modified Y-chromosome to take the place of the second X-chromosome needed for a normal female) I hightly doubt that there was any egg involved at all.
