That very kind of you to provide us honest and clear update about what happened and why there were so much quirks and trouble with the game launch. I always think it's preferable than staying mum about the issues or having a standard corporate newspeak trying to tell you that in fact, everything is fine and doing as planned. So thank you for this post and thanks for your interest in the PC platform.

Well, now, not that I don't like writing messages on forums, but I'm going back in-game.

Thanks for the great update - I always suspect the gnomes are busy working behind the scenes to work out issues that crop up (as opposed to assuming everyone is just ignoring them) but it's nice to have that confirmed by such detailed explainations and/or updates on progress occasionally!

I have had almost no issues yet myself other than expected ones (54 hours for my D2D download on my slow DSL connection and similar issues with download times of some DLC) but the good news was the download worked flawlessly in spite of the fact that it took over two days and I now have all the DLC as well. Image IPB

Great game! Great Team! Bioware rocks! Image IPB

With a launch on this scale, there is bound to be problems. Thanks for sharing this info with us Fernando.

I agree, this is a great post to have made. Kudos to BioWare for stepping up and explaining the issues with the site and working so hard to fix them.

This is the sort of post I particularly appreciate. It acknowledges the problems, explains why there were problems, and clarifies that things are getting back on track.

It's also good to know that the game is exceeding expectations, since this game is much closer to the type of experience I'm looking for than the more recent Bioware titles (that's not to say I haven't enjoyed those previous BioGames that I've played since the BG series -- I have -- but this one just suits me more). In this age of digital "awareness", I can't say I'm surprised by the reaction to the social site and the pseudo-online gaming offered by this title; I have no interest at all in playing games online in the traditional sense (multiplayer, MMO), but the online features of this game are somewhat more appealing even to me. After all, where with Baldur's Gate I'd go online and ramble for a page and a half about my character's adventures in the game, now the game itself provides a nice starting point (doesn't mean my posts will be getting any shorter, though. heh.)

The feedback is much appreciated. Great game, too.

All I will say is, to my North American, Australian and goodness knows how many other nations, enjoy your tin box and cloth map and other goodies you got with your retail Collector's Edition, because us in the UK, for the same price, can only get a crappy plastic box with no map!

The above is due to EA giving a game retail chain in the UK an exclusive. I am sure in many countries this would be illegal, which is probably why it hasn't happened elsewhere!

I emailed EA support about buying a tin box and cloth map, and they directed me back to the retailer! Well, I am sorry, but the game retailer must have asked if they could just release in a plastic box with no cloth map - and EA must have said 'Yes'!

So despite all the above, I will not be buying Dragon Age: Origins for my PC, but will buy Risen instead. I hope many other UK gamers do the same to show EA/Bioware we will not be treated as second class customrs!

I will wait for the GOTY version, sometime next year, or maybe i'll find a cheap American or Australian Collector's Edition on ebay in a few months. There is little other choice for UK Bioware fans.

If Bioware hadn't have linked up with EA, we would not have this problem in the UK, so I despair a little at the medium to long term future of Bioware as part of the EA stable.

In closing, imagine how you would feel, knowing if you buy the Collector's Edition in the UK you get no tin box, cloth map or Warden's Keep DLC, and then you read that people who download the deluxe edition, 'because they don't have the tin box or cloth map' will get the Warden's Keep DLC. Well UK customers don't get the tin box or cloth map with the RETAIL version - yet we don't get Warden's Keep either!

So if your in the UK, or even if you're not, remember we have been shafted nine ways to Sunday more than most of the rest of the world!!!

Best single player campaign game Ive had the pleasure of playing since BG2, and likely exceeding even that wonderful piece of artwork.

I just hope you guys stay on top of the Bioware official DLC's and hope you guys have something intresting comming soon.

On another note, Ive talked to alot of my freinds about trying DAO. The general census they have come up with to not playing it, is no multiplayer capability. Of course i dont mind so much myself, and love the game either way. But as a online gaming community, that play games just to play with eachother, its hard to sell a single player only game.

Mabe think about adding a 2-4 player coperative mode in the future? Player base would likely skyrocket.

Yup, great Community feedback, many, many thanks for that!

I am really looking forward to the Developer/Community relationship that seems to be developing here. Keep up the good work in that regards, and please keep us informed like this!

Awesome game, truly the best thing that Bioware has produced yet IMHO. The IP itself is fantastic, and that is no easy feat to accomplish. You have won me over, and that is not something that I thought would be possible. This IP, if it is developed more in the fashion and manner as it has been, will easily surpass Ed Greenwood's Forgotten Realms for me, putting it in the top place for an IP since FR.

That is an incredible accomplishment.

Great work, and it is nice to see that Bioware is not resting on it's laurels, but intends to work together with the burgeoning Community to better the game and the experience that is DA!

I am really looking forward to CC produced from this Community, and I will be looking into becoming a contributor as well.

Thanks again for your understanding and overall positive reception of the game itself.

A quick note that if you are still experiencing issues, please make sure you raise those either to EA support or on the tech support forums here on social if you haven't already done so - there is a lot of eyes on that forum in particular, and also many of the issues already have workarounds in those threads either officially or community generated.

These solutions continue to grow by the minute thanks to the great contributions from all of you - I also just have say, my sincere personal thanks to those of you taking your own time out to help others out on the community by the way! It is greatly appreciated.

As a general update as to how we're tackling things - all the issues raised so far are falling into 4 broad categories.

1) Issues around redeeming codes / and social site:

A lot of these were down to traffic load, or not clear enough instructions for code redemption. We believe this group of issues are largely sorted out now. There are still some folks who are reporting missing their actual DLC item codes (mostly from some digital retailers), and our last info is that those emails have now gone out (or are going out as of Friday). Please contact your digital store if you still did not get these.

2) Issues around Downloading dlc / updater service not installed correctly/running

We're continuing to work on these and should have an update coming soon. In the meantime, there are a lot of threads and FAQ items on help.dragonage.com now with possible workarounds, depending on your actual flavour of the issue. Please make sure you try those out.

3) Hardware related issues

This is the more traditional kind of PC game issues around a launch. It can include crashes, performance, OS related, and general hardware permutation issues.

We're prioritizing game blockers from these (e.g. game won't start), which thankfully are extremely low. But expect to continue to deliver updates for other non-game blocking issues such as instability over time, or performance on specific hardware cases, as well as work with our external hardware partners to get updated drivers out as appropriate. That's sort of par for the course with PC given the variety of hardware etc out there.

4) General game bugs

This too is something we suspect will come up over time given the sheer volume of content and ways to do things in DA. So far, it has been exceptionally low as well - a current example being people losing their DLC items after dwarf noble origin. (i saw a workaround in the help.dragonage.com faq btw)

Thanks,

F.

Thanks for the info. Although I've only experienced problems on the forums here, it's good to hear that the problems of my fellow gamers are being addressed and getting real information instead of the rampart rumor mill we see in some posts.

Also it's nice to see the constant feedback from the moderators in the normal posts, good job

Amazing game, I got it from GamersGate and had no issues except slightly slow DLC download speed on 1st day it launched. Overall it is an amazing game I love as an RPG vet who played all BioWare games. However multiplayer is SORELY missing to show off all those hard earned achievements and interact/duel other peple, I mean common, it's 2009, MP support should be in every game, especially of this scale. :)

However I'll stay happy as long as there are really well made expansions coming out! Thanks BioWare!

Why can't people just enjoy the game instead of using the internet for their soap box and/or replacement for lack of a real world social outlet.

I don't have the game yet as I'm EU PS3 but I just wanted to leave my comments to say thanks for providing an update and for the high level of community interaction you're providing. People understand that these things happen and as long as they are kept informed of the situation and things are resolved in a reasonable time then that is all that people ask of you (with the exception of those few people who like the sound of their own voice and who speak louder than the rest of us, you know who you are).

I hope the Bioware presence on the forums continues for many months (dare I say years) to come and isn't just a show for the first couple of weeks.

I'd also like to add that I like how so many of you respond to individual posts, very helpful. I particularly enjoy the posts where you aren't afraid to speak your minds, so many other mods at other gaming sites just sit on the fence but the posts from some mods are blunt and to the point which is exactly what is required of them.

Keep up the good work, cheers.

Thanks Fernando. Your e-mail comes across just as well as you do in person. It was a pleasure to have picked your brain on Dragon Age over a bottle of wine and food during the last day of the builder event.

Thank you for the update. Fantastic game.

I have one major concern. Playing on the 360 version, I know my chances of a patch are far off. It sucks to pay extra money for DLC and the skills / items do not work properly. (Warden Commander's set bonus not applying or Blood Grasp being stuck activated and listed as a permanent status effect).

I know your hands are full with PC and PC DLC issues but I really hope we see fixes come down to the consoles in a speedy manner. Unfortunately, I'm sure I will have finished the game using broken items / spells before I see one. Nevertheless it would be nice to have it all fixed for my second play through.

Here's a question buried on the fora: are there any plans to release the exclusives DLC (Dalish Promise Ring, Ring of Fire, Lion's Paw boots, etc) as releases for-pay? That is, are there plans to release the retailer-specific preorder items later on in an item pack?

Thanks for the update. My CE edition has worked flawlessly but I feel for the many gamers out there who are waiting to play due to technical issues.

gg, Bioware. The dwarven poetry book was funny. This one keeps on giving.
