Gah.  I'm on my first play through.  I'm mid way through Jacob's loyalty mission, the last I have to do.  I've explored all the star systems and completed the discovered missions.  And I finally get a half day to just sit and play.

When I turn on the game, it says "The data for one or more careers is coruppted.  Delete?"  I say "No", of course.  But all of my game saves are gone.  Not just one.  Not just some.  All.  How the hell did ALL my save games get corrupted?  Ok, it isn't all.  I still have two from playing around with the character creator.  Is there any way to get my games back?

Did you make any changes to your Xbox(Deleting DLC, clearing the chache, pouring butter inside it)? Are you seeing any corrupt data in any other games?

No and no.  And I put butter on almost everything.  Looking at the save game info in Xbox memory outside the game, it still comes up as a corrupt file.  Apparently the save games are not individual files, but rather each career is one file.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe I shut down the system during an autosave?  I don't think I did, but I suppose it is possible.  Anyway, I don't think I am getting myu game back, and just don't have the stomach to risk another play through right now.  I will never see my space ship model collection again.  I will never know if romantic interest character virtually felt the same way about me as I virtually felt about her.  My poor space rodent.  :(

This is even more disturbing since I just found out we are unable to copy our careers to an MU for backup purposes....

I bought the damn $30 MS MU just for this purpose and the GAME won't let me perform a backup?

Simply because the 360, especially MICROSOFT shaftst you with this constantly. They want to control everything you have.

In our case, every HDD is 'alligned' to the 1st Unit. Without that, you can basically forget all your DLC's and memory saves.

Remember the DA:O corrupt saves? I still hate BioWare for it.

I have plenty of other X360 games that let me backup the saves to my MU. This is not a Microsoft issue (other than they ALLOW developers to lock thier content so it can't be copied).

What you said about every HDD being aligned to the first unit doesn't make sense.

My HDD has worked fine on 3 different consoles.

If you are referring to the fact that you can't play DLC offline on a different console to the one it was first purchased on then that can be fixed by using the DRM tool on xbox.com

And to the OP with games that use autosaves it's best to always return to the title screen before switching off. That way you can't accidentally corrupt an autosave.

I just wish I knew for sure this was not caused by some rare, intermittent problem with by console. I am loathe to start over if I might find myself in the same situation. I have to say, though, that storing all the saves for a single career in a single file, instead of storing each save individually, is pretty dumb. It negates one of the motivations for consistent saving.

Oh well.....

OK, almost same problem, except I upgraded my HDD. Transfered everything over, no problems. Then when loading ME2, a warning pops up and says that my career has been corruped, do I want to delete. Of course I said no. So I put the OLD HDD in and boom...works just fine. So, I formatted the new HDD and transferred it all again, still doesn't work. BIOWARE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS. THIS IS STUPID! I shouldn't be punished for spending money to Upgrade my HDD so that I have room to buy MORE DLCs from you!

This was with the MS transfer disc in your XBOX?  Because when I used it for a data transfer, my old drive was blank & the new drive had all my stuff on it.

I got saves in like 50 different Xbox 360 games (no i don't own that many but i have played that many). And none of my saves has never been corrupted. I have even switched Xbox (RROD) and switched HDD from 20GB to 120GB using M$ transfer tool. And still all my saves are intact.

The only 2 ways i can think of for a save to be corrupted. One if you turn of the game while it is saving (unlikely that every save would get corrupt for this though) or you're banned from Xbox Live, this also corrupts your saves for some reason.

Otherwise its a faulty HDD, i guess it happens it did happen on my old PC, i lost a lot of music and pictures all the pictures where irreplaceable since i've taken them myself.

Edit. If you used a transfer kit i guess your saves could be corrupted too, since you can't copy ME2 saves like you can with almost every other game.

I'm sorry to hear this Sapient.  This is one of those horror stories that I am worried about as well.  Bioware needs to seriously consider allowing us to backup our saved games like we used to in the first game.  There is a discussion about this here:
