I also heard that you really have to work to get a happy ending with him too.

You are not kidding with that. Hell romancing him burned my ass off when it kept me from getting that last ending I needed for going 1125/1125

Hmm, I wonder how the poll in the article will turn out...

Miranda is winning. This must be one of those rare moments where Tali is losing!
30% voted for Miranda! What an outrage! (Fine... after Tali, I'd probably pick her too...)

Meh.  I can't stand that woman.  "Cerberus Cheerleader" is rather accurate up until the very last moment if you have her with you in the final battles.  Her arguement with Jack is a perfect example of what a cold-hearted shrew Miranda is.  I rather enjoyed my last playthrough where I sided with Jack, made no apologies, and watched her die underneath a beam.

I don't really have any problems with the article i guess, but can't video games just be video games? I feel like there is this need for people who like video games to justify their existence to the non-gaming populous by overstating some sort of "beneficial" aspect of the game. The beneficial aspect of the game is that it is fun. We shouldn't need articles arguing that it somehow tells us something about relationships. It should be enough that a certain segment of the poupulation loves to play video games. No one ever worries about the social or cultural value of playing darts.

Because video games have this stigma of people thing they're just toys for kids.  I believe (and I'm sure a LOT of gamers would agree) that video games could be so much more, especially as an interactive medium, if only people would get over the idea that only kids like them.  After all, movies are allowed to be very lenient in the material they show.  If a video game tries the same thing, usually the ESRB and various "moral guardian" groups slam them with lawsuits and fines.  Video games have the potential to be as entertaining AND thought-provoking as movies and books...if people would let them.

BrotherGrim... The article never said you have to have a romance to complete the game. You have good relationships with your crew, i.e. do their personal quest to make them loyal. Relationship DOES NOT mean romance. Read my definition I posted or look it up yourself...

You have a relationship with your mother. You have a relationship with your cat. Relationship is not always romance.

Just in case we missed it the first time?

Please don't get me started....

Who wants to bet that within minutes of someone mentioning that poll in this thread, there was a post in the Tali thread about said poll and the need to 'win it"/support Tali?

And I would go check myself but frankly... that thread scares me... alot.

Hell, I'm this close to betting everything that I own that there is probably more about that poll in the Tali thread than there are comments(period, as in all comments made) in this thread.

But again... I am to chicken to go up to that thread.... it just kind of saddens me that there seems to be more interest in that poll and peoples particular obsession with particular characters than in the article itself.

Its like the time I took my friend to free hat day at the basketball stadium:
My friend: Isn't this great we have free hats!
Me: But its a championship game! And you could buy 10 hats with the price of one ticket!
My friend: But dude.... FREE HATS!
Me: **sobs quietly into program**

In my friends defense he loves collecting team heats, but still....

Miranda's down to 17% now. Posted Image

Never liked her myself. Her best moment is in the final battle but I never cared about her enough to bring her there. Her worst moment is the sex in the engine room bit though. Two cabins between them and she picks there. It's like she was trying to rub Tali's nose in it. As I've said before, Tacky.

Just for giggles I went back 10 pages or so on that thread and saw no mention of it. Since the poll doesnt allow for multiple voting anyways , you might as well just accept the poll for what it is.

Good for MSNBC they have finally found something they can report on truthfully and with some knowledge of the subject.. Goes to prove boys and girls that if you fail enough you will get it right in time.

You speak with some authority on this. Do you work for Fox News? Oh right, their commentators didn't get their Mass Effect facts right, nor played the game.

So you do nto read what you type yourself? A commetator is not a reporter and I believe there was one gameing guy on there doing his best to set things stright but that was what 3 years ago and I do not feel like looking it up. Really people let that crap go it is just a game and there is alot mroe impotant things fro news channels to worry about. Oh I do not know unemployment and economy for starters it is just a freaking game.

Hey at least we gave Bush a chance to screw things up.  More than I can say for you guys now.  <_<

You nothing of me and what in the hell are you talking about. Who are these guys you refer to and what chance are  you talking about? Posted Image

Her skillset was just too useful to pass up, the +weapon damage and health in particular.  Plus it was easier to get her killed by bringing her disloyal arse to the final fight.  I have no regrets.  8)

It's idealistic to wish for games to "just be games" but all too often, there are those who denigrate and seek to ban our hobby. To some, it's a talking point to rail against, to whip up fear about gamers as being anti-social, basement-dwelling, violent individuals, or that the messages in games are somehow ruining their skewed view of society. I could go  into the literal religious demonization of gaming, but that is a fact we should all silently acknowledge, and leave aside, for it brings nothing positive to the discussion.

On the flip side, some of us have embraced gaming in general as an integral part of our lifestyles, like myself. I'm an as-yet-unpublished boardgame designer, and I've loved gaming since I first got my hands on an Atari controller back in 1982. Gaming has been a tremendously positive influence in my life, and based on many posts on this forum and others, I'm not the only one for whom this is true. Some of us, as part of a generally respectful and varied community with a hobby, (and not as "just gamers") feel it's a good thing to protect that which we feel as ours. If not for the support of the community, the industry crumbles.

Would it be great if articles only needed to focus on the game's content, and never have to even mention any positive social aspects? Hell yes. I don't see that day coming any time soon, and I still look forward to it.

Yes, it was Adam Sessler; I recall the interview quite well, and my point was that they specifically chose commentators (aside from Sess) who openly admitted to not knowing the material they are speaking about. That cannot qualify them as experts, but it does give ammunition to the anti-gaming lobbies out there. Also bear in mind the person I had responded to slammed the source of this article, despite it being factual. Yes, there are "more important" things in this world, but some people won't let the facts get in the way of good rhetoric, and this is primarily a gaming forum.

When it comes to games it comes done to ones opinon so I honstly do not care what so called anti-gameing groups think. Hell I am sure they will say something about TIM smokeing in the game. Anyone else remember them changing the guns from ET into walkie talkies? There will always be something someone can complain about.

I could have swore it was someone else the adam sessler was thinking it was some skinny dark haired guy. I have to be honest I do not go to any "news" site, channel or paper for gaming info.  With so many "were is fox" topics when the game was released I will admit I am sick of hearing that. Posted Image

Oh well even when I do not agree with most people these fourms are more fun to read then "news" websites less people dieing for real.

Bah. Forget the poll. No matter who wins, nobody "loses," and nobody will change their mind about their most or least favorite character(s) as the result of the poll.

I posted it in the Dragon age forums as well, about a half hour ago.

And yes, if I had known about the poll I would have put this in the off topic section where it might have been seen by less 'partisan' folk.

But I have "No Script", never saw the poll, and even if I did I probably would not have thought people would make a big deal about it.

As games get deeper I do not think you can ever aviod the social aspects. Movies,tv and music deal with that and as games get I guess more popular it will only happen more often. In the end they do share what most stories do the view of the writer. I tihnk I like these icons to much I just got to use one for no reason Posted Image

I've not posted, but I've visited that thread a few times.

The people there and what they discuss is no more or less scary than the rest of these forums.  Stop demonizing them - they are fans the same as the rest of us.  Because they really like one character, who cares?  Let them like the one character.

I was merely making a joke. Not trying to demonize them. But they do tend to be a bit fanatical, if that poll next to the article is an acurate measure of there devotion.

There are no threads or websites I specifically dont enter unless its 4chan or Stormfront. I was merely making a joke... I would have made the joke about Miranda or Garrus fans and their thread if they were winning by over 54 percent of the vote as well.

In my opinion, you should have nothing to regret about this. The poll won't change anyone's opinions about anything. The article did spark plenty of reasonable discussion, (at least in this thread!) and that trumps any of the partisanship elsewhere.

Tali has stormed into the lead with 54% of the votes so far. Given that the "Save Tali" thread here has over 21k posts in it, this outcome is not surprising.
