Tali has assumed control of this poll with 57% of the votes.

Nope, Tali fans are not loyal at all.... :innocent:

They know what they like. I voted for her myself because she honestly was the one I wooed. Though, I imagine all the Tali fans wooed her too... making the poll honest, if a bit one-sided now. Lol.

Just in case we missed it the first time?

Please don't get me started....

Who wants to bet that within minutes of someone mentioning that poll in this thread, there was a post in the Tali thread about said poll and the need to 'win it"/support Tali?

And I would go check myself but frankly... that thread scares me... alot.

Hell, I'm this close to betting everything that I own that there is probably more about that poll in the Tali thread than there are comments(period, as in all comments made) in this thread.

But again... I am to chicken to go up to that thread.... it just kind of saddens me that there seems to be more interest in that poll and peoples particular obsession with particular characters than in the article itself.

Its like the time I took my friend to free hat day at the basketball stadium:
My friend: Isn't this great we have free hats!
Me: But its a championship game! And you could buy 10 hats with the price of one ticket!
My friend: But dude.... FREE HATS!
Me: **sobs quietly into program**

In my friends defense he loves collecting team heats, but still....

It's good that you feel we can talk like this.

But... ah... my post was in respones to Kalen's amusing posting-about-the-definition-of-'relationship' three times.

Probably should have quoted it for clarity.

Did we date and then you dumped me but wanted to be friends? Because I'm pretty sure I've heard that exact same line from a few of my ex's... suddenly I feel the need to give you space... and then burn all your stuff...:P

I wonder where she'd be if this wasn't posted here. I doubt the writer knows how zealous the Tali fans are on this forum.

Nah.

I'd have already burnt my stuff myself, just to spite you and deny you the satisfaction.

Yes, I'm that vindictive.

Or if Liara had a larger role in ME2...she didn't even get on the poll. I don't get that..Liara must have surely been most everyone's LI from ME1???

MSNBC + 1. An article about relationships in video games from a mainstream news site that isn't negative. Yay.

Not mine on any playthrough. Liara made me feel like a Pedophile. Which is funny given that she was nearly 4 times as old as me. Cute kid. Smart, spunky even. But still a kid.

Article was a bit on the over-exaggeratory side, but for once its not over-exaggerating how video games will turn our children into murderous perverted sex monster demon things, so I think I'm ok with that for once.

Interesting to see some media outlets are looking at video games more like fables and stories now, which is what I'd classify them as about to, it means our society is starting to advance slowly in the matter of video games, which we desperately need to do, as just up to 4-5 years ago, video games were seen as murder simulators, and being a gamer was considered a negative.

I guess they still don't know Japan has multiple video game genres dedicated entirely to interpersonal relations. To put it lightly.

What's this?!  People skimming and jumping to absurd conclusions based on a failure of basic comprehension on the interwebs?  Say it isn't so!

You know what they say about assumptions...? There has been nary a mention of the poll in the Tali thread. Furthermore, the 800+ votes Tali has gathered already, putting her over 50%, is by far exceeding the number of posters on the Tali thread, which has about 20-30 people regularly posting.

So I'd leave the prejudiced thinking at the door. Honestly, prejudiced assumptions turn out wrong most of the time when confronted with real life.

It is more fun though!

I can confirm Tali's popularity outside of this forum. She is the favorite squadmate of my Fiance and my brother.

The artiscle itself was a nice breath of fresh air. I'd rather the article have been about the development of stories in gaming than romances in said games, but you must take what you can when you can.

What Ms. Benedetti says in the article is spot on! It's not about a virtual sex simulator it's about developing emotional relationships virtual characters. Characters with deep personal backstories that make you genuinly care about them. I like how she mentions how the Jack romance is a lot different if you go take it slow rather than rush into it.

It's interesting that this woman's title is "Citizen Gamer", haven't seen that anywhere else. I'm glad to see more non-gaming journalists taking a possitive approach to looking at video games.

I really enjoyed this article. It's nice to hear news outlets now praising the complexity of video games and the mature(please no jokes here) audience that enjoy them. Especially since we had Fox downplay Mass Effect's complexity by calling it a rape game.

Interesting article (spotted that "role" typo too) - it was a good read. To those who believe that the author was saying the romances were crucial to completing the game: she didn't say that at all. The author was clearly referring to building loyalty through loyalty missions as being critical to success on the suicide mission in ME2 (and loyalty is important in DA:O too).

Well, she left out the obvious choice. I don't really have a reason to vote anymore =]

Aside from that though, I'm just glad this article is a positive review about gaming and character relationships in general. I'll take that any day.

I also have a similar thread in the Dragon Age spoilers, and the same logic fallicy is apparent there as well.

Its my guess (and a few others have mentioned it in this thread) that it is the word RELATIONSHIP that is making people jump to a conclusion about the whole article.

To a lot of people (especially under a certain age), the word relationship means some kind of romantic or emotional commitment. They seem to not realize that there are many types of relationships:
  • Business
  • Friendship
  • Familly
  • Professional
Those are just a few examples of it. Someone went so far as to post the actual definition a few pages ago. It still does not stop the odd post saying 'she thinks your romance/L1/booty call is crucial to the game'.

As someone stated before, comprehension skills are not what they use to be, especially on the interwebs.
