where you at nerds? i remember there being alot of discusion about DPS in the old ME1 forums. more so build discusions/arguments/bannings, but still alot of class build threads. ive noticed there was alot more going on then, then there is now. where did all those RPG tabletop gaming golden standard uberbuild ME players now? id still like to know which class has the best DPS, whats the best ammo mod, which class can spam biotics "faster." has ME changed so much that those type of players are long gone?

or if anyone knows does the sentinel get the best DPS?

Frankly, those calculations were misleading and somewhat useless. You can easily figure which guns did the most damage just by trying out various combinations, and the conclusions reached were often misleading because the so-called "mathletes" often forgot the parameters of their own calculations.

For instance, it is commonly believed that the Pistol is the best weapon in ME1. That is actually not true, but most people believe it anyway.

Damage dealt per time is hard to estimate because it depends on a lot of factors. For some environments (particularly platforms), Sentinels and Adepts are especially dangerous because their Throw becomes an insta-kill power on its own. Moreover, Adepts can deploy Warp Explosion without the aid of squadmates, allowing them to clear compact battlefields very quickly.

On the other hand, long ranges with narrow corridors favor the Soldier and Infiltrator classes because their long arms allow them to put rounds downrange and kill enemies significantly before many of those enemies are a threat, and before you can get power locks.

Situations involving powerful single target enemies that could be locked down favor the Engineer and the Adept where their lock down powers are applicable. Engineers are especially effective against large mechs and Adepts against Harbinger and Scions.

This is false.

Yes it is.

None of this has anything to do with which weapon was most effective in ME1.

Again what does any of this have to do with pistols being the best weapons in ME1.  You said number crunchers were wrong for arguing this.  You then said a bunch of other stuff about Adepts and Enigneers being good.  Did number crunchers argue that Adepts sucked? No.  So what was the point of this post?

To the OP, there has been quite a bit of math done on these boards.

However:

Folks are still figuring out the numbers behind ME2. How much armor/shields/barrier/health do most enemies have? How much of a damage bonus versus health does freezing enemies provide? What damage bonuses stack additively versus multiplicatively etc.

-Also, since ME2's combat is more complicated than ME1's, it's more difficult to estimate optimality.

I suspsect you'll see more math-laden optimal build posts in the future.

Overall DPS would probably be the Soldier's domain, mostly because of Adrenaline Rush and the Revenant.

However, DPS isn't the end all be all determination, since you can exploit the environment to score kills without inflicting much damage. IE, a Warp detonation that slams three enemies into a wall, then they fall 20 feet, and die, or a pull/throw off a ledge... hell just a pull off a ledge.

WillieStyle:

This is not the thread for that. My point is that math often confuses the less adept because it takes so much of their energy that they forget the parameters of the calculation. This is more true for ME2. You can kill enemies in this game without their actually having been brought down to 0 HP. That means that estimation of damage being dealt is going to be a smaller fraction of efficacy than it already was.
