What's the purpose of Shep's Armor other than making him look cool?

Other than having some bonuses armor seems to serve no purpose for Shep. Bad guys can have shields and armor but poor Shep only has shields and when they are gone he is dead..

Sheps shields recharge, only a rare few enemies ever get a shield recharge, even on insanity.

just remember the intro MST3K, and alter one word.

"Just repeat to yourself, it's just a game."

The armor releases medigel when injured, thats why you heal when ducking behind cover.

It also records all your adventures as proof for the Council to ignore.

But honestly all it really needs to do is look cool. And it does!

The armor regens your health, and shields recharge pretty quickly. You also have the advantage of being an actual person :P

Maybe the OP's question had more to do with the fact that enemies have Health, Armor and/or Shield bars to mark them out. All Shepard has is shields, and not much is explicitly defined like in ME1 (where different armors had varying Health, Armor and Shield bonuses).

Actually its not always shields. Check out Shepard and your various squadmates stat screens. Some say 'armor,' some say 'barrier' and some say 'shields' for the non health rating.

Exactly, whereas in ME 1, your PC and even NPCs and multiple ratings.
