As far as I can tell, the lighter variety gives more actual clips in your inventory.

Of course if it were really a heat sink you were swapping, it would be able to cool down and be reused. And also you wouldn't be able to reload it on a single shot basis.

Guys, wasn't the question about TWO TYPES of clips found in game?

All the clips I found in game were red. So I assumed he meant normal ammo clips.

I'm not sure 100% but to me it loked like there were two types. Both have red bits, but base color is either grey or black.
Of course, that can also be due to lightning, but I noticed sometimes getting 2 extra instead of 1 on weapons with low ammo. like snipers.
Can anyone confirm this, or is that just effects of lightning and/or picking up multiple clips without noticing?

I think its just a trick of lighting you're seeing. I've gotten from 1-3 'clips' picking them up but they were all the same visually.
There's alot of lighting oddness in the game. Like Miranda's uniform looking like it has blood on it when you first see her, and Kal Reegar's armor looking 'pink' on the Flotilla but red when you first meet him.

I'm not too sure, those things you describe are directly related to color of light sources, and it matches enviroment.
Gray and black on clips could be mistaken for intensity of light, but I felt pretty consistently that gray clips gave me double the capacity.

Well I'll try to pay more attention to it and see. But they both have 'red' in them, so in relation to the OP's question I assumed he was talking about something else.

Gonna go with this one, as there are two distinct types of ammo clips found. I'm not blind, folks. The red ones are usually "found", i.e. discovered in little caches around primary plot areas (for example, all the ammo clips in the room where you find Garrus). The second are grey and bland (though they do "blink" like the others, making them more visible), and they are dropped by enemies along with the red clips throughout the game.aaniadyen wrote...
There are two types. Only difference is capacity. The red ones are larger, they can vary from 2 actual "magazines" to 3 (I think) The normal gray ones, I'm pretty sure, can only count as one.
As a matter of fact, one of the loading screen hints suggests that enemies that use heat-based weapons often drop "thermal clips", presumably opposed to "normal" clips.
I was just wondering what the difference was. Ammo capacity makes sense.
Though I'm still having a problem at times working with the extra ammo arms from the armor. For example, with the M-15a Vindicator assault rifle, I sometimes get 105 rounds, and at others I get 96. WTF?

You caused a bit of confusion yourself.

You armor, specificaly an item called off hand ammo pack.

First...okay, so they're all thermal clips. So why the difference in colors?
Second...sorry if I didn't specify, but I thought it was implied in my question (or that you'd give me the benefit of the doubt). I always use the Off-Hand Ammo Pack. Yet I still have this discrepency with my ammo count. Same for the heavy weapon ammo piece.

Oh, yeah, missed the implication. I never noticed that and it would definitely be a bug ...
Does AR have Ammo Capacity research option? Can't recall now.

Hmm, AFAIK ME2 doesn't have the same kind of ammo counting (i.e. realistic) program as other games like COD. And I have tried reloading my AR (for example) and then walking over spare ammo clips, and at times all I get is 96. Other times, it's 105. It changes from mission to mission, so if the extra ammo capacity armor piece works, it works. When it doesn't, it sometimes works.LostScout wrote...
Paradox 01, if your assault rifle was empty and you picked up clips it will show 105 rounds when you look at the weapon on your action bar. If you then equip the AR and load it the count will drop to 96. You have the same number of rounds, but it stops counting the ones in the weapon.
I'm not a mathemetician so I can't exactly break down the specifics, but I can tell you that there doesn't seem to be any regularity to the pattern.
