I have no wireless. So am trying to connect my PS3 using an Ethernet Cable. I plugged one end of the cable into PS3 and the other into my broadband box. And then tried an 'easy' connection. However, it comes up with a message saying it has timed out due to not being able to find an IP address. I tried looking for my IP address online. It was a long number. Tried inputting that manually but there is only room for the first four numbers??

I'm kind of stupid when it comes to things like this. I have no idea what to do! Help!

Make sure your firewall is off, it took me about 2 hours of frustration to finally realize my firewall was on. To do the PS3 settings you normally would;

1. Settings

2. Network settings

3. Internet connections settings

4. Yes

5. Custom

6. Wired connection

7. Auto detect

8. Manual

9. IP ***.***.*.**

10. Subnet ***.***.***.*

11. Default ***.***.*.***

12. Primary DNS ***.***.*.***

13. Sec DNS ***.***.*.*** << Same as Primary DNS

14. Automatic

15. Do not use

16. Enable

A lot of these settings you should be able to pull off your modem.

so you have to input IP ***.***.*.**

10. Subnet ***.***.***.*

11. Default ***.***.*.***

12. Primary DNS ***.***.*.***

13. Sec DNS ***.***.*.***

manually?

I wouldn't even kow where to find all of those. I hope just having the IP works. But the IP code is four digits of a pair of numbers, the 4th being a three. Why is there no space to put it all in on the PS3?

Then you have to contact your ISP and have them open some ports up on there end.
