How about instead of that....a character who wields no guns but is all biotic. So he/she can only use biotic powers perhaps some of them with faster recharge times but essentially unarmed. I think it would be pretty cool to cycle a character through many different biotic powers in combat than just one or two and some shooting. Any thoughts to that?

It's the perfect role for The Biotic God.

we already have lore, science, and logic sacrificed for way too many obvious gimmicks as it is, no need to add to that.

Think of Schwarzenegger at the beginning of T2, and how he reloaded that shotgun. Now think of a krogan dualwielding shotguns.

...yeah. <.<

Dual-wielding is badass, who cares about realism? It's not ARMA II or America's Army 3, there's no realism in ME. It is believable, and everything that is believable is fine. For me, i don't really care much, but why no. Think of it as some kind of fanservice.

I actually got a chance to ask a navy seal about this just the other day, he says based on the way the army trains it's men, you pretty much have to use both your shoulders and lower back to bear the burden of recoil for just one gun so it doesn't move to much after firing, he tried to think of a way that the same process could be used for two guns, but he didn't see it as being realistically possible

I'd rather not see the dual-wielding of firearms. It just doesn't make sense from a practical standpoint, and in gameplay it is almost universally over-or-underpowered.

No. Dual weapons are ridiculous and impractical.

I just thought of of another reason for not dual wielding:

Have you seen the size of the freaking handguns in this game, even just the pistols? There is no such thing as a 'small' mass effect gun.

You need both hands for these puppies when firing... you would almost always lose control/grip on the guns after after firing one shot if you dual wield:

A krogan could probably dual-wield effectively, but I'd rather see it in a cutscene, not as a gameplay mechanic.

The only NPC in the mass effect universe that I can see doing this is Conrad Verner.

oh i can see it now, with both guns shooting at a still target. bullets flying everywhere.
Conrad breathes, heavly- puffing...
His target is sorrounded by holes in the wall behind him. Raising his pistol, he takes aim at conrad. conrad faints, before the volus can take the shot.

The first mistake all the posts in this thread made was assuming realism has anything to do with a VIDEO GAME SET IN THE FUTURE. If we wanted realism lets add change all these features like add a prone option for snipers since nobody can fire a sniper accurately standing up, enemies should also die in 1-2 shots after their shields are gone, etc.

Frankly I think Thane would be perfect for akimbo pistols. I immediately think of Equilibrium (the movie).

Sure why not.

lol realism in video games.

Well, even though it's sci-fi, mass effect has tried to establish a reasonable explanation for everything.  It's the only game where I've used stuff I've learned from Biology to understand better.  You have to appreciate the amount of detail BioWare has put in to make it seem like mass effect has a hint of reality in it.

I don't know if realism is a good word to use to describe Mass Effect. I think believable would be much better. Mass effect establishes a sense of believability using real world science and a great story.

Edit: By the way, everyone knows Hanar can wield somewhere around six pistols at once. Or a combination of assault rifles, shotguns, snipers or heavy weapons (with two tentacles per weapon).

This. Adding dual-wielding because it makes a character "badass" is stupid. I do not understand at all how a character carrying two guns (let alone pistols) in his/her hands makes them more of a fighter.

Agreed.  Dual-wielding would add nothing to the game from a game-play perspective, and is contrary to the feel of combat and the game in general.

This thread pops up periodically. Kind of like dandelions, or fire ants. It's one of those valueless and annoying things that just won't die!
