You're all worse than PS3/360 fanboys. Seriously, am I the only one that loves both Western AND Japanese RPGs? And to be perfectly honest, I prefer Japanese on the whole. As much as I love the likes of Morrowind and Mass Effect and KOTOR, nothing can beat the amazing times I've had on Final Fantasy VII, X, Chrono Trigger, Digital Devil Saga... Yes on the whole they are very stereotypical and stuck the in the past, but now and again you get a JRPG that is just bursting with originality and great gameplay.

I like both.

Though I don't prefer either or.

And I really hate when one says WRPGs are completely non cliched either. That irks me. Both genres have their cliches. Both have their amazing/horrible games.

Yeah if the World Ends with You isn't innovative neither is Mass Effect.

Though I will admit KH isn't much of an ARPG but I love it too death. Go Sora!

I have enjoyed both in the past as well, it really depends on personal taste, both types have their pros and cons.

What is this "WRPG" garbage? There is no such thing as an a JRPG. They simply compied american RPGs and added lame cutesy cartoony graphics.

I've bought gamepro, EGM, and 2-3 other video game magazines for almsot a decade since the NES and SM systems came out and not once did they ever talk about "JRPG". This is some dumb garbage dreamed up by jingositic asians and asiaphile americans.

I prefer WRPGs but I usually only enjoy handheld JRPGs...I CANNOT STAND the voice acting in japenese games...it's unbearable...Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and many others are Wayyyyy better on handhelds

Heh. I found 300 bucks on the ground and got one used. Awesome day was awesome.

Plus you can play old PS1 games on it so its a portable PS1 (And everyone knows PS RPGs are the best rpgs) 

Edit: Though yeah I agree with the voice acting. It can be horrible in mainstream ****** games. (Which is why I usually turn it to Japanese w/English subtitles if given the option.) 

Edit: Also I dig bishounen which means usually speaking I find men in WRPGS ugly as hell. Ugh. Too much body hair. *shudders*

Also I don't know. I guess the normal amount of fanservice is more bearable in Jrpgs where it is spread equally where in Wrpgs where it tends to be restricted to just the females.

Maybe they just can't tell a story without having to slap you in the face with it.

To be honest, at some point playing Morrowind, I completely forgot about the main quest and rather amassed lots of power, built myself a mage tower and couldn't get myself to actually finishthe game, because I was pretty content with what I had then
Morrowind - which I'll always hold in very high regards - was not so much about one story, but rather the world and what you wanted to make of it. BioWare RGs are more about the story and the choices the hero makes within the storyline. BioWare RPGs are like epic interactive movies where you have some control over where you want to go first, second, and so on. But you will visit those places and venture further along the storyline. Morrowind had a lot more freedom for the player, but at the cost of a coherent storyline.

Anyway, I don't really like Asian artworks, so JRPGs are not really my cup of tea on the whole. I'm more into western art styles, so WRPGs come kind of naturally

You know what I'll come out of the closet and say that I'm 19 and I still am going to buy the new Pokemanz game. I find myself enjoy Hand-Held "JRPG's" then console ones.

But yeah, the PSN digital releases are about the only other thing I'd want on there besides Birth by Sleep.  (other than maybe Mega Man: Powered Up - but again, seems silly to buy a system for a remake of Mega Man 1 )

I got Suikoden I & II on my PSP. (Games are full of Win even now. ) FF8, FF2, FF1, Crisis Core was decent (but then again it was mostly fanservice and that's why I got it).

Yeah. I think I like Jrpgs because of the equal opportunity fanservice. Sad but true.

Im gonna wait for the PS3 to go down in price and I'll probably buy it for if they release and more Naught Dog titles and any Kingdom Hearts game, yes I'm a sucker for Kingdom Hearts. Only reason being that they have Disney characters and they used the design of the artist/director I believe who did everything up to Final Fantasy X and then left the company.

I think someone stole my Nintendo DS at my work and I just realized a few days ago. I've been busy, so I need to find a place to purchase a DS cheap and then get the new one.

I think the Pokemon story is the most cliche story ever and is overused but for me it's like a hobby game...Collecting the different monsters and stuff never gets old...I would prefer they update the battle system as well but it's still very hard to get very good at and there are ton's of counters to everything so I guess it's still sweet. I loved how they added 3D to the world in the newest Ds version...was amazing at the time of launch
