Good job BioWare! "Square Enix Attempts To Explain Low Western Reviews"

I just can't finish them anymore because there's always this pointless grind to artificially lengthen the game and they all seem pretty much the same. Trust me, growing up I played ALL of the greats. That's not even an exaggeration, I can't think of one single "Great" JRPG I didn't play growing up.
The problem is, they don't really innovate, and as nice as the formula is, much like my favorite jeans, you can only rinse and reuse them so long before they wear right out.

I think the Pokemon story is the most cliche story ever and is overused but for me it's like a hobby game...Collecting the different monsters and stuff never gets old...I would prefer they update the battle system as well but it's still very hard to get very good at and there are ton's of counters to everything so I guess it's still sweet. I loved how they added 3D to the world in the newest Ds version...was amazing at the time of launch
Yes well lets get back to FF White Knights, a.k.a Weeabos and the rest of the world. It comes down to this. Trying to explain "JRPG's" don't have anything new to offer and saying that White Knight Chronicles is something new and refreshing because it has interwebz is absurd to say the least.
Weeabos

I know the reason why FF XIII got low reviews from Western folk, two companies, BioWare and Besthedia (sp)
says Toriyama in a recent issue of Xbox World 360. "When you look at most Western RPGs, they just dump you in a big open world, and let you do whatever you like..."
Hang on I still can't stop laughing.
You seem to be ignoring the fact that FFXIII got bad reviews in Japan from sources that weren't on Squeenix's payroll, and it was almost universally panned by players/consumers as being terrible.

After FF7, I played Chrono Cross, FF5, FF6, FF8,9 little 10-2, 11 for years, 12 and beat it.
I'm not a JRPG fan, the only ones I can admit to actcually beating are 7 and 12 mainly due to time constrants ( 10-2 however I stopped a quarter of the way through, I just couldnt do it >.<) The only western RPGs I have played are between bethesda, lionhead, and of course bioware, with bioware being the best in story-telling/innovation to me. The reason why JRPGs are lacking indefinitly are indeed their old-school themes, lack to listen to their fanbase, ignorance, and using the same story-telling formula from previous games.
I never played FF10 mainly for that reason, I just saw yet another blonde-haired lead, (trying to emulate Cloud to me), who was a complete crybaby. I hear its a great story, I really just can't wrap myself around to play it though.
Only reason i began to play 10-2, I felt the battle/class system were kind of cool, thought that move "Trigger Happy" was definietly different for the gunner class, but story-wise made me actually quit.
FF12, with its political story, wasn't all that great to me. Character interaction just isn't there, once again blonde-haired leads, and MMO style play. Yeah I beat it, the introduction I felt was great, maybe the first 2 or so hours, especially its "tutorial", but afterwards became "eehhhh".
I cringe to FF13's characters, especially its man of color being yet again there for comedic relief rather than something different. very hard for the Japanese developers to make a non-white non-stereotypical character (ie. black characters being comedic relief/token black guy/music man/gangster/illiterate etc. Or hispanics wearing "bull-fighter" style clothing/hot headed etc.)
Bioware really does a good job with its style of choose-what-you-want-to-do gameplay. My gripes with ME franchise, and DA are minor (example, hair, characters weight etc. even though height/weight may be due to technical difficulties)
Bethesda to me is good open-world, however their main storylines are definietly lacking. Some of their side stories (example dark Brotherhood in Oblivon) are actually way better than the main storyline.)
Lionhead, of course Peter M. causes its major hype, (which in the end turns out extremely less than whatever he says it actually is), but after playing Mass Effect 2, Lost Odyssey, Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, etc., I feel its sometimes nice to unwind in a casual RPG such as fable. Especially if you don't listen to its crap-hype. Storylines are NOT engaging/original as is gameplay/music fyi.

It's funny because one of the editors had dinner with Toriyama and he kept asking him why Mass Effect 2 was so popular (basically, how could this game outsell Final Fantasy XIII after only 2 days). Amusing in the context of this latest statement from him.
It's hard to believe that the Japanese are pulling the race card, so to speak. They just can't admit that recent Western games are better than anything Japan has produced. It sticks in their craw

Oh yeah Birth By Sleep is going to rock!
Wish I owned a PSPNot going to buy it for that one game tho...
Heh. I found 300 bucks on the ground and got one used.Awesome day was awesome.
Plus you can play old PS1 games on it so its a portable PS1 (And everyone knows PS RPGs are the best rpgs)
Haha.. I'll probably get one as soon as the price drops enough. Maybe when it gets down to $100.
But yeah, the PSN digital releases are about the only other thing I'd want on there besides Birth by Sleep. (other than maybe Mega Man: Powered Up - but again, seems silly to buy a system for a remake of Mega Man 1)

Anyways. Yeah Persona is good.
I wish they'd stop milking 3 and make 5 already though.

Yeah I'm surprised as well. Ironic because Japan as a country despise foreigners and dislike them. If this is to be seen with there video games and companies it seems Japan has taken one step forward and two steps back sort of speak.
