as you see this game is FAIL. the only JRPG's that I ever liked was Tales of Symphonia, Chrono Trigger, and FF 7. every time i see someone excited for this game i cry for them, they are going to be horribly disappointed.

I Like the FF Series, but only because the story lines really. The gameplay could walk off a bluff. I've still never felt emotional attachment to a game more-so than I did with FFX.

I just don't have the appropriate console for FFwhatever. I played VII though and liked it. Also I think there was not enough hype.

So where the heck are these bad reveiws? The poeple who diddn't like FF12 where the JRPG fanboys.

When he says reviews, I think he means sales.

I used to hang out exclusively on consoles. I used to play nothing but JRPGs. In retrospect, they were crap. Pure crap. Awful, cliche, melodramatic stories. Juvenile art direction and style. Mind-numbing gameplay. I honestly can't sit through 5-10 minutes of these games now, so drastically have Western games changed my RPG ideals.

The vids I've seen for FF13 look stupid. If that's someone's idea of high art or even medium art, I weep for the future.

The Grandia games were the only JRPG games that I liked. I think there better than FF anyways. But SE is really dropping the ball with FF.

I like JPRGs mostly, The Mass Effect series being one of the few WRPGs that I like. I Only got Dragon age because I was lacking new stuff to play and decided to give it a try. I still haven't finished it,but at least it got me interested enough in ME2 that I went and got ME1 which just increased my interest and enjoyment of ME2.

Other then those games,most western RPGs don't really interest me. I still like JRPG series like The Tales of ,Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Shin Megami Tensei and Star Ocean.

Personally, I will wait and decide for myself regarding FF 13. So far I haven't seen or heard anything that really puts me off it(the lack of exploring cities is the only thing that made me sad). If I don't like it, then it ended up not being a great game for me and me alone. Doesn't mean that it isn't great for others.

I find the whole JRPGs suck vibe that this thread has going almost funny since I bet the Bioware staff has some JRPGs that they like or enjoyed playing. I also wonder how many people in this thread hating on certain JRPGs thought those were great games when they were first released. Thanks and respect goes out to those who don't like JRPGs for certain reasons(graphics,gameplay,etc.) instead of hating it just for it's place of origin. I understand your feelings since thoses are reasons most Western RPGs don't appeal to me. We gamers like what we like and not all of us will like the same stuff even if it belongs to the same game class/type.

This was what came into my mind when I saw this thread.

WRPGs have so far been games I've valued more than JRPGs.

I've come to love Bioware games. Bethesda games too (Contrast to Bioware games, yet still get me feeling gaming euphoria). As well as many other studios (STALKER games, and games like Mount&Blade to name a couple).

I think it's about how things are laid out and written. Universes in Western RPGs are just deeper, more fufilling, and more plausible. They also tend to be more explorable.

JRPGs tend to favor flare, flamboyant costumes, etc.  However P3&4, Rogue Galaxy, Star Ocean, and a few others tend to fill the void, as the elements aren't over the top, and the worlds are interesting and still colorful enough to enjoy.

The Persona games are top notch. I buy them everytime they come out but rarely get to finish them. I know I'll still buy FF13. I have it on pre-order as well as FF14. I'm just a Final Fantasy girl.

I don't think they need to try to explain the bad reviews. I still love Eastern RPGs over Western ones. Bioware (and to a lesser extent Bethesda) are really the only western companies that I will buy their RPGs from day one. I know from Bioware I'm going to get a quality experience. From Bethesda I know I'll be a hulking she-woman from the get go.

That being said I have to admint quite a few Eastern RPGs are cliched to all hell. Some of it so that it's not worth going though the story because it's just like something you've already played.

I think it's pretty lame to blame poor sales on another company. To be honest, FFXIII looks like a crappy game, and this is coming from a hardcore FF fan who has played nearly all of them. I would settle for the pixelated graphics of FF6, with an intense storyline and fascinating environment, to the fancy new FFXIII with horrible characters, cliched storylines, and a mediocre battle system.



Meh. I think Bioware should try its hand at a more-than-epic FF-style RPG. I mean, DAO had so much success, I'm sure they could rope in some more JRPG fans if they tried.

Also, Ray Miyazuka (or however you spell his name) said all the same things about ME2, with the pre-defined character and lack of options etc etc.
