I'm curious as to whether or not this is a lead in for a later expansion or DLC for the other known Dwarven City that still stands in existence, admittedly. Hee. Can't wait for the release!

So, this is where the inferno golems are.
Is that darkspawn fighting each other on the third picture?
I have been squinting my eyes out at that picture myself. Very intriguing.

Does this line scare anyone else?
ETA: I love the extent of the darkspawn corruption in the area. I always felt like DA:O was lacking in this, given how it was described in The Calling, so I'm glad to see that the taint is more visible in this area.

...Awakening is not going to be Orzammar reloaded (dungeon crawl, few quests, lots of hack'n'slash), right ? Because with this new location and the fact that Oghren is the only NPC fully returning that's the impression I get.
Orzammar was by far the most boring (actually the only boring) part of DA. Imo of course
-but if that's how it's going to be I'll skip Awakening.

I go out for lunch and the web team gets this up before I return thereby allowing Lewgiffard to steal my joy of posting.Anyways, yes indeed Kal'Hirol. Make sure you check out the link and click the image for all 11 screenshots.
I have to say, I think that the level art for Kal'Hirol is my favorite in Awakening. The whole deep roads poluted by teh darkspawn taint was explored back in DA:O, but I think it is much better in Awakening. This area is awesome to look at and deadly to explore in game. I think fans are really gonna dig it.
Next time you copy/paste Chris, make sure the first time you posted it, you spelled "the" right :-p Just busting your chops bud.

These breakthroughs brought Kal'Hirol great prosperity; its passageway are said to have glittered with gold and silver.
Not sure if I saw the gold and silver in the screenshots, but it is nice to look at.

So the rest of the story is going to be about golems and Ohgren? No visit to Orlais, no visiting the Qunari lands......
And speaking of golems..if this is the case why can't we have Shale back?
I think these are fairly pertinent questions.

Look at the FAQ. The story is about the conflict with the Architect and the nature of the darkspawn. Hopefully, it'll make them more interesting as a faction. I'm glad they're going this route - one of DA:O's biggest flaws was a lack of solid villain and a sense of urgency.
I'd absolutely love to see Kal Sharok in a sequel, in addition to the Qunari lands and Tevinter. Life sounds extremely grim and brutal there - I wonder what people there had to do to survive.

Really? you didn't like orzammar, i loved that portion of the game i thought the dwarven city was dark, brutal and majestic. Still each to their own.

I'm just not too keen on dwarves. Somehow they just don't click with me. The dwarven origins, for example, are the only part of the game I haven't touched at all.westiex9 wrote...

I suppose the city Orzammar in DA was "ok" (than again: dwarves). There was a fair amount of content/quests and I actually liked the art style.
So when I said boring I actually meant the whole Deep Roads portion of the game that was part of the Orzammar quest hub. God, how I dreaded that place.
Hours up on hours of boring, hack'n'slash, non-stop darkspawn killing with (almost) no story/quests/NPCs content until you reach Branka. Terrible.
After my first complete playthrough I started 2 new characters and basically did everything there is in DA with them -they both, however, didn't finish the game because I can't bring myself to do the Deep Roads again.
So if Awakening is basically a new Orzammar quest hub with dwarves and extensive visits to the Deep Roads then, yeah -I'll be skipping this hack and slash expansion.

I can see where your coming from, i liked orzammar beacuse i love Dwarves but if your not into them it must be a bit of a pain to play through that section. I doubt Kal Hirol will be anywhere near as long as the deep roads sections though.

I hated the Deep Roads. Loved the Orzammar city quests but the Deep Roads? I'm stalled in my current play-through because that's next and I'm utterly dreading the endless hours of hack n' slash.
This new location worries me.

What endless hours? Set difficulty to easy and waltz through it. Don't waste party space on healers and tanks - go full damage. Then swap to a more sensible party set-up just before broodmom.
Deep Roads can be real fun when you just go wooooooooosh and be done with them

Looking through the screens and wondering, is the blond woman one of Morrigan's sisters?
No, that's Velanna. She's a dalish elf mage companion, who simply happens to have the same hair as Morrigan. After all, it would be too much to ask that when there only have been two femal mage companions, the third that gets created wouldn't be recycling looks of the previous ones.
*sigh*

15 hours of pure fight...
no romance
and maybe small party interaction and dialogue....
now a dungeon...

There are so many places that are mentioned in the story, but that we can't access. I'm okay with killing darkspawn, even visiting the deep roads again. I'm just dying of curiosity about the other places and how the other people live.

The Dwarven Noble Origin is easily the best origin story of the game. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's one of the best parts of the game overall. Try it out - you'll be surprised at how cool it is.
The biggest complaint people seem to have about the Deep Roads is the large amount of filler combat. While I can't deny that it does get tedious, IMO, the atmosphere, the darker setting, a few morally grey choices, and learning more about the darkspawn made up for that flaw. Though I understand why a lot of people wouldn't like it - the game did indeed have a lot of combat that could have been cut out.

I completely agree. I don't like Dwarves much but that origin just rocked.

I like how taking a different origin really gave you a different perspective on choices. My Human Noble was vengeful, but also a man of integrity who's willing to put himself in harm's way if it means doing the right thing.
Because of the backstabbing of Orzammar's politics, my Dwarven Noble was a far more... morally flexible guy. He's ruthless, practical, patriotic, and VERY results-oriented. He's willing to sacrifice the elves because he sees that the werewolves the exact kind of rage-filled, perfect killing machines needed to stop the Blight. He sides with Branka, hungering for a return to the dwarven golden age, where the dwarves weren't a dying race with only two cities left.
That was my favourite part of the Origins, they really allowed you to make different choices because it allowed you to come at problems from a different perspective.
