I've been running into a rather odd an annoying hair issue that I just started noticing, and I'm not totally sure what is causing it. Heres a few screen shots to give an idea of what I'm talking about.

As you can see theres small (very annoying) artifacts in the hair, so far this is the only place I have seen them. Also to note that all my other games run perfectly fine with no artifacts etc etc so just to get that out of the way. If anyone knows how to fix this as I'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere thats causing it I'd appreciate it thanks.

I've seen a similar problem to what you have there, although rather than hair I was seeing it around foliage, so the cause may be different. I had my graphics drivers set up to override the game's anisotropic filtering with my own settings, which turned out to be the cause of the weird fringing and artefacts I was seeing: they went away when I changed it to use the applications's settings. Given that yours isn't exactly the same problem, it may have a different cause; but it might be worth a quick look...

Thanks for the info I did try that an I was still getting the issue but when I turned the motion blur off it went away oO which I thinks a bit odd lolz, and I like having motion blur on lol wonder if something else is causing it. :(

Just got done tweaking around about with the gamersettings.ini and my ATI control panel and figured out that AF was causing the weird artifacts Oo which is odd as I've used 16xAF almost ever since I got the game an didn't see these artifacts till I started to mess around with the gamersettings.ini. Here's my gamersettings.ini if anyone can figure out whats causing the conflicts with the AF as I like using AF >.>.

Might be the filmgrain setting; I *think* it was a conflict between that and AF that was ultimately responsible for my problems, though it's been long enough that I'm not certain (and too lazy to test again :P). Using in-game AF instead of the forced variety didn't seem to result in a drop in picture quality anyway, it just made the problems go away. I think because of the way the engine renders stuff, trying to force various settings with the likes of CCC or Nhancer can often cause some unwanted side-effects (or just not work at all).

ya I tested filmgrain and motion blur an the artifacts were still there, but when I set the AF in the CCC to app controlled the artifacts went away. I'll do some more tweaking around with the settings to see if something really is conflicting (most likely) but atm I'm content with what I have given the res I have to play at even though my card could play at what ever res I wanted too. (If only I had a better monitor!....)

After tweaking around some more I figured out that the Catalyst AI was causing the issue not exactly sure why but turned that off an the artifacts went away then I went back to CCC an turned 16xAF back on an they still weren't there, maby its driver related as I'm still using ATIs 9.12 drivers but I'm not planing on forcing AA so I don't see the point in getting the 10.1 or the hot fix unless theres also a graphical difference in ME2 with the 10.1+ drivers. Possibly no, but better drivers usually mean increased performance, as they are constantly optimized. So I recommend updating those drivers anyway.

I have had the 10.1 an the hot fix installed before but then I saw these artifacts an figured it was the drivers so I reverted back to my old 9.10 set an then decided to install the 9.12s, but now that I'm pretty sure its just the Catalyst A.I conflicting an not the game and AF etc I'll update back to 10.1 as it's more beneficial even though I only have a HD4890OC.

I've heard of ppl having visual glitches on OC cards and clocking them back to normal to fix them in some games.

My card was factory OCed from Gigabyte an I have tested it numerous times even at its current clocks it only peaks at about 48c which to this card is nothing as I don't get these artifacts in any other game and these artifacts are not do to the card as they almost look like my hairs trying to use the Geth shield boost ability when I see them (Same color and animation effect) I've also noticed this on several other types of hair, usually hair that has more detailed hair strands etc but never on the plain hair cuts that were kinda blurred out etc. So I'm pretty sure its the Catalyst A.I as its attempting to optimize the drivers etc while I'm playing the game, most likely a shader conflicting with the way the catalyst AI optimizes the drivers as there being used ingame.
